I can't figure out some of the men in here. They say something sweet or do something nice and they feel ashamed and or bashful and ask us not to tell anyone because it will ruin their reputations....

Why!?!? What's wrong with being sweet and what is wrong with being a good/decent guy?...we really don't need any more bad guys, they're just not good for us. :crs

The jackass's in men is always up for view, it's so easy for them to show that part of themselves but once in awhile they quietly and secretly let us see the sweetness in them...I do like the sweeter part and I don't think it makes them a wimp....IMHA

Personally, and I hope this doesn’t sound twee (yep, sweet moment coming up), I would like to ‘reach out’ more to the posters here, especially those going through tough times at the moment, but my concern is not really knowing if my ‘sweet’ actions would be taken as intended or misinterpreted if they aren’t clear enough. It is most like me to say something unhelpful, presumptuous, patronising etc. In real life, you can at least judge if you need to explain yourself more…or say less, much less! Whereas here, with many people I don’t know at all well, I’d hate to leave somebody pondering over my intentions. That’s why, unless I know the person particularly well, I throw in my own caveats when I’m trying to be sensitive, to give myself a ‘get-out-clause’ if my tone is not correct.

However, I agree that it does detract from your sentiments when you start diluting your statements. I’m just not underplaying my own feelings or demoting my sweet side to safeguard any reputation!

I think it is a perception thing. For those of us who really are nice guys we don't want to be seen as 'preying' upon those who are hurting, we just want to help. Especially if we're new, not well known, or whatever.

Sometimes there is a hesitancy on the part of women to trust us guys. Not all of us are here for a quick ... whatever. Sometimes we try to help just because we do care and really don't like to see anybody hurting ...

I can only speak for myself, but I love being the nice or sweet guy. That is just my make up and I can not and will not change. I don't think I could ever be the bad boy time, I just don't get it.
