I like the news from all over the World. From the new airbus to your kitten getting stuck in the backyard drain. I also like a bit of satire straight after the news.

Something that did catch my eye on the weekend was quote" the political earthquake that hit Palestine".
First I thought wow, what a surprise! Then the thought came that democracy has worked in the Middle east and the majority has spoken at the ballot box in Palestine. This should set a great example for all those Arab and Islamic nations who think America and it's allies are trying to control them.
any thoughts?

AMERICANS ANNOYED BY "ALL THIS
INTERNATIONAL SHIT" ON INTERNET
Web's Increasingly Worldly Flavor Threatens Americans' Worldview
PULLMAN, WASH. (SatireWire.com) — The profusion of international news available on the Internet has made it increasingly difficult for the average American to ignore the rest of the world, a trend researchers say threatens Americans' long, proud history of disregarding anything not about them.
"With all the foreign newspapers and multi-cultural sites, the Internet is making it almost impossible for the average American to remain uninformed and apathetic," said Samantha Lessborn of Washington State University, which conducted the survey. "Americans can still do it. But it now takes effort, whereas before it was as easy as turning off Tom Brokaw whenever he said 'In South Korea today...'"

Yeah -- I got thoughts -- some of them even about things other than my dick!
The Palestinian issue really creates a conundrum for the US. We obviously favor free elections and democracy, and by all indications, the election in Palestine was fairly run and the people have spoken. So, it would seem, that we should be happy democracy is working.
Conversely, however, we are active supporters of Israel, and the election of a government, even though fairly elected, that has at its stated goal the elimination of Israel, is counter to our interests in that area.
So, do we allow the Palestinian people to determine their own future? Or, do we allow them to determine their own future only when it is consistent with OUR national goals? Clearly, we cannot, and will not, abandon Israel, but neither can we abandon the commitment to allowing democracy to work in that region.

Boy, I tell ya -- these damn southerners -- they want everything! First, we had a Carolina, and they had to get a South Carolina. Give em that, and they just want more and more. We had a Dakota, they wanted a SOUTH Dakota! (Anybody ever tell them there ain't nothing south about the Dakotas! South is where you go to avoid the Dakotas half the year!) Then, they had to get their own continent -- South America! Are you kidding? There ain't a grit within 2000 miles of the Amazon!
And now, a South Korea? Yobo seyo, y'all? It just doesn't work!

AUSTRALIA GETS DRUNK, WAKES UP IN NORTH ATLANTIC
Tired of Being Isolated and Ignored, Continent Isn't Bloody Moving
Sydney, 800 miles S. of Nova Scotia (SatireWire.com) — After what witnesses described as an all night blinder during which it kept droning on about how it was always being bloody ignored by the whole bloody world and would bloody well stand to do something about it, Australia this morning woke up to find itself in the middle of the North Atlantic.
"Good Lord, that was a booze up," said a bleary-eyed Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, speaking from his residence at Kirribilli House, approximately 600 nautical miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
According to Australians and residents of several countries destroyed or lewdly insulted during the continent's nearly 7,000-mile saltwater stagger, the binge began just after noon yesterday at a pub in Brisbane, where several patrons were discussing Australia Day and the nation's general lack of respect from abroad.
"It started off same as always; coupla fossils saying how our Banjo Patterson was a better poet than Walt Whitman, how Con the Fruiterer is funnier than Seinfeld, only they're Aussies so no one knows about 'em," recalled witness Kevin Porter. "Then this bloke Martin pipes up and says Australia's main problem is that it's stuck in Australia, and everybody says 'Too right!'"
.................................................. .................................................. ...
Oh yeah Tiger! I was in stitches for a while reading the satirewire news. The only problem was I was in a public internet cafe. People were saying the white guy over there is nuts.
Too right it's worthy news..I have class now, I had better go and mould the brains of the future.

I think Fatah has had a hell of a run and has done such little with their power. They have been accused of corruption for as long as I can remember. Their behaviour after losing the election should have embarrassed many foreign governments that support them. They appeared to me to be no more than organised criminals who have lost their income.
Now that Hamas has been put in power through many people who are not fanatics I hope they will listen to the people who will vote them back out.
I hope Hamas will renounce violence against Israel and Israel will start listening to World views about their policies . Yeah -- I got thoughts -- some of them even about things other than my dick!

I'm aware we have a friend here from that part of the world. I would love to here his constructive comments on what I have just said. You would know as well as I know there are many opinions in Israel. I have seen a few political assasinations or so-called assasinations carried out in Palestine. Often they say "the Israeli press or spokesmens" they were involved in terrorist bombings and thats why we blew their car into a zillion pieces . A tiny bit of proof is a start in justifying some of their actions. The land issue is huge. Refugees need to be returned to their land. Red cross, Red Cresent, Christian Aid and the likes need to be listened to. The cycle of poverty is growing and this new divider seems to make people in the area even more worried about their future prospects.
America and England think they have a lot in common with Israel and I don't believe this is true. I sometimes think Israel needs to climb onto morally higher grounds in order to get a clearer picture. i have to go..
I watch a few different world news channels.. I find this subject extremely interesting. I don't want to change anyones views. I more so, want to hear yours and change mine.

POLICE MUST NOTIFY RESIDENTS WHEN
CATHOLIC CHURCH MOVES INTO NEIGHBORHOOD
Controversial "Egan's Law" Expected to Gain Widespread Support
Trenton, N.J. (SatireWire.com) — Under a new law designed to protect minors, local police departments will now be required to inform residents any time a known Roman Catholic church moves into their neighborhood.
The law also mandates that Catholic churches register with authorities, wear electronic monitoring devices, and be prohibited from moving to within a half-mile radius of a school.
"Last year, we discovered that a Catholic Church had been in our neighborhood for 30 years! And nobody told us!" said Ruth Harper of Redbrook, N.J. "My sons used to walk by that church every day on their way to school. Even now I shudder to think of what might have happened."
"I always told my kids to steer clear of that place," added neighbor Scott Carlyle. "But that's because there were a lot of strange people going in and out at odd hours, even at midnight on Saturdays. I was worried it was some kind of druggie hangout.
"To think the whole time it was a Roman Catholic Church. Now I know why they had all those stained glass windows —. so nobody could look in."

Believe me, I truly understand why people avoid the news --- it's easier if you don't know. But, I am reminded of two quotes (neither of which will be verbally accurate, but will convey the idea)
"The only thing required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"
"Ignorance may be bliss, but it is the real world that will get you killed"
People today, myself included, are not involved enough. When is the last time you wrote a letter to the editor? to your government representative? I know for me --- it's been about 12 years. Yet, every day, I see and read things that I rail against, that just flat piss me off ----- but I do nothing. Guess I deserve what I get.

This is the truth, taken from todays Newspaper.
A MOURNING daughter watched in horror as a woman desecrated her father’s grave — by urinating on it.
Grieving Lauren Tutty, her two kids and mum were put through the ordeal at the cemetery where her cancer victim dad Henry was buried a fortnight ago.
A row broke out as an unleashed dog being walked by the mystery woman and her partner ran riot across the grave.
The yapping mongrel then cocked its leg on a floral tribute reading “Granda” from Lauren’s kids Chloe, six, and Elliot, two.
Lauren, 26, said: “My mum said to the woman, ‘Your dog . . .’ But she shouted back, ‘Let my f***ing dog p*** where it wants.’
“I said, ‘That’s my Dad’s grave — he’s only been dead three weeks.’
“Then she said, ‘I’ll f***ing p*** all over your dad’s grave, will that make you happy?’

01/31/2006Dow sets aside $100 million for giving Midland Daily News
After a record-breaking year of sales and profit restoration, The Dow Chemical Co. is planning to spread around a little of its prosperity.
Shareholders might have noticed a $100 million cache set aside from fourth quarter earnings announced last week -- a contribution to The Dow Chemical Company Foundation.
Among a myriad of other community needs across the nation, the new pot is a place from which money can be drawn and given to the Michigan Baseball Foundation, which is the mode of transportation for bringing a new minor league baseball stadium and team to Midland. While a number of local foundations are expected to contribute to the effort, Dow is one of them. No formal request for funding has been made and no number decided, but the foundation is the primary source for Dow's U.S. giving.
Oh yes, like we really need a new baseball stadium....Heaven forbid Dow would offer insurance coverage to some of the new full time employees.

Dow thinks the community will benefit from this thing...I think it will hold 3500 people. Our city is congested enough....jobs at Dow have been cut, too many people without insurance and my son is one of them. Sanctions is a tool used by those unwilling to actively confront the problem. The only thing sanctions do is punish the common citizen -- you can't seriously think that the dictator is going to give up his lavish lifestyle? He doesn't -- he makes it up on the backs of the citizens.
Sanctions are used as an excuse to do nothing -- it makes the VERY ineffective United Nations feel like it is doing something productive, while its members line their pockets circumventing the very sanctions they voted in.

Bush and Blair have sent our troops to one part of the world, the other countries in the United Nations should send their troops to Teran but they wont will they, so what do we do, sit and wait for the boom, personally if I could go I would, but something other than santions has to be thought of, how are we going to safeguard our next generation and their children.

Ok the other night I watched this show on Discovery called The Grizzly Man. This not so smart fella goes for 13 summers to a Federally Protected Area to Protect The grizzly Bears. Now there hasn't been a bear killed by hunters in that area in years. I was so disturbed by this fella named Timothy Treadwell. I think he was just not right in the head. I mean I know we all have our convictions and causes but I still don't quite understand his motives. He would stand around and when a wild grizzly would come near he would say, go on run off, now don't you do that when the bear with hair sticking straight up, growling and pretty much looking like a wild animal would, this guy would then do this baby talk like oh i love you oh yes i do. He named them cute names like a kid would a teddy bear. Well long story short the last 2 summers he brought his girlfriend with him. Well Oct 2003 they were both eaten by a bear. Their bodies were removed from the belly of the bear placed in trash bags and carried out. Freaky huh, lots of people say he got what he deserved. I may not agree with his crazy actions and ideas but no one deserves to die, especially a torturous death like that. I do however think he got what he was asking for, how can you not end up dead or injured when you get so close to wild animals. The bear wasn't a unusual or crazed bear he was just a normal bear, a predator, killing his prey to survive. The crazy thing was that he video taped a lot. Although the lens caps was not removed, the camera captured the sounds of him and his girlfriend being mauled and eaten by this bear. Anyhoo if you want to read about him you can type in his name in a general search Timothy Treadwell, the Grizzly man. This is definately one of those things that make you go hmmmmmmm.

It's growing so fast in my part of the world. Or as they are saying around here. It's been hi-jacked by the extremists.
In my cheap opinion about the ignorant and insulting cartoons!
If you want to have a healthy relationship with a country or people there must be mutual understanding and respect. The muslim groups have said previously this is a big NO NO if you want to be our friends. The Danish govenment now must accept what they have done and good luck to them.
As for the Englishman wearing a suicide bombers jacket in London yesterday while protesting the cartoons needs to be stoned on the spot. The police made him apologize to the victims of the London bombings. pathetic!

First, a clarification. When I speak of Iran, I don't speak of the people of Iran. Rather, I mean it to be the extremists who are now in power.
I think there is a basic misunderstanding about Iran -- it has been very clear, and very consistent, about what its intentions are. They have unwaveringly said their goals are the destruction of Israel and the zionists who protect them -- the US and England. We have to understand that, unlike most countries, they do not separate church and state. They are one and the same -- Iran is involved in a holy war, and we better be prepared to handle all the fanaticism a holy war brings.
However, you hit the button right on the head -- Syria, on the other hand, foments all this upheaval in that area for a much more pragmatic reason -- money. Export of arms and support of terrorism is big business in Syria. They have been the brokers for all the under-the-table deals between France, Russia, and Irag, as well as the arms suppliers for Iran. It is no coincidence that the nuclear reactor design being used by Iran was a French version sold to Syria several years ago.
It is inconceivable that the US would allow Iran to develop full nuclear capability when it has 150,000 troops amassed on its eastern border. But, the real problem won't be solved until Syria is solved.

The US press has reported the story faithfully -- but got a bad case of chicken shit-itis. They are unwilling to report the story as it really is for fear of offending the Islamic world. By doing that, they have established that the US press can be intimidated into censoring what they print. Only one newspaper in the US has printed the "offending" cartoons.
Mutual understanding and respect? This would be with the country that has called christians everything from infidels to whoremongers -- who have sworn to destroy us? And we are supposed to worry that they might be offended by a cartoon in some obscure Danish newspaper? The very fact that they riot, burn buildings, and kill people over this supposed offense merely points out the very reason we shouldn't much care what they think.

Regardless of this. My point being about mutual respect and understanding is that Denmark wants to do trade with them[muslims]. If Denmark can't find this medium than they must cower to Islamic law. Or walk away from them and stand up for their own rights.
I heard the other day that Iran is currently running a cartoon competition. The winner will be the funniest image of Jews in the European holicaust of a fews years ago.

You better look at the source of your headlines. Freedom of the press is probably the most sacred of our freedoms; you don't get to try to control them. The press, after all, acts as the "unbiased reporter" - though I don't believe they are unbiased, and push their agendas. As a caution, I ran a check of AP and couldn't find any reference to such story.
What you did see, however, was outrage from all political leaders, both democrat and republican, to a cartoon that used a severely handicapped soldier to advance a particular political point of view. No one objected to the political view, but rather to the use of a brave soldier to advance that view.
Regardless of this. My point being about mutual respect and understanding is that Denmark wants to do trade with them[muslims]. If Denmark can't find this medium than they must cower to Islamic law. Or walk away from them and stand up for their own rights.
Why should Denmark cower to Islamic law? It is interesting to note that the only people who have printed the cartoons in the Islamic world is the Muslims themselves. In addition, if you look at the cartoons, of the seven that have raised so much fuss, only two showed up in an obscure Danish paper. I would suggest that there are elements of the Muslim community that are using the cartoons foment unrest and distrust, rather reacting with genuine shocked outrage.
I heard the other day that Iran is currently running a cartoon competition. The winner will be the funniest image of Jews in the European holicaust of a fews years ago.

Control of freedom of the press places control of information and definition of "truth" in the hands of whomever is controlling the press. Just who would you suggest that be? The mullahs? The pope? President Bush? In truth, only an unrestrained press ensures that we get the real information, rather than the information they want us to have.

Point 4. Yes, the war in Iraq, for and against has been built around money. Those that wanted to go had something to gain and those that aposed it had something to lose or nothing to gain.

Well, I certainly, for one, would nominate you for the commission on good taste. Your view of the world definitely needs to be --uhhh -- heard. Besides, there are some things for which you would be uniquely qualified. After all, who else but you could advise on matters such as beer selection, types of dogs to own, and what pick up line works best? (I heard your favorite was -- "Will $20 be enough?")
As for the ugly side -- no doubt. But, if we can get enough people looking at something, reporting it from their unique perspective (even if they have prejudices or agendas), then when we put all that together, we should get a true understanding of the situation. It's when we only get one side of the story that we get in trouble.

All you guys are acting like this is the norm. Telling the child it not good is one thing but phoning the district attorney office is ludicrous.

We've had that in the recent past here in Michigan.....a little boy was chasing the little girl on the play ground, caught her and kissed her. He was expelled for 3 days. Stupid....

[QUOTE=Cotties]O.k I'll go straight to point 5. I find my post quite simple minded. Not stupid but not far off it. Perhaps a comminsion of good taste can be formed. I could head this committee as I have seen the world according to me and we all know my taste borders near perfection for all.
* Not sure what the answer is. But I'm sure complete freedom of the press can have a very very ugly side.
Well, I certainly, for one, would nominate you for the commission on good taste. Your view of the world definitely needs to be --uhhh -- heard. Besides, there are some things for which you would be uniquely qualified. I think Fox news has an agenda to tell you the truth. They actually showed a clip of the libary tower being destroyed in the movie Independence Day when the Pres was talking about the threat they uncovered. They also showed the minister speech at the King funneral and cut short the 30 second applause. Then the Fox guy actually said he was supprised the applause wasnt longer :( If CNN is to far left Fox is off the edge right

I will tell you a secret, Penny. CNN USA is difficult to watch as everything is centered on the United States as seen through all the terrorism and the attitudes prevailing in the USA (which does not prevail in the rest of the World).
CNN International reports international news and news about America in a VERY different way.
The CNN that you watch in the States cannot be watched here because it is so biaised. CNN USA is right wing if we must use that term. As for Fox News (my channel, of course), I do not wish to comment about that except to say that it frightens me to see lots of Americans watching it and considering it as factual.
Every media is biaised. The problem of media is when it starts to consider that it is THE TRUTH and the ONLY ONE. In my book that is the start of totalitarianism, of fascism or Naziism or Communism....they are all the same, again in my book.
Where in the World are the real issues being discussed? Nowhere because the problems are gigantesque and we have NO leaders anywhere.
Poor World.

What's even more shocking is the number of people that have no clue what is going on in the world, much less here in the US. It's frightening to think that those in the government (both sides) have pretty much a free rein to do what they want without accountability.

The world is a SMALL place to live in. The other day through friends here in Europe, was told that there was a man who found a natural cure for cancer and that they paid him to shut up and live away from civilization. Twenty years ago, in Switzelrand heard that "they" had assasinated a man who had found another cure for cancer. Then there is Dr. Hammer of Germany who found something to cure cancer and he was interned in a psychiatric hospital.

Interesting observation. In my travels abroad, I found that CNN World had a different slant on things, depending on if I was in Europe, the Far East, or South America. I also thought that it pandered to the European inferiority complex, and didn't really state issues factually. In the Far East, on the other hand, it played to the Asian perception of moral and intellectual superiority.

I guess it depends on your perspective. I've spent a lot of time, both here and abroad dealing directly with members of news media. It can be a mine field. Like any other profession, there were good ones and bad ones. Some were very capable, ethical and professional and some were so blinded by their personal agendas that they lost any credibility with people who had to deal with them.

This story certainly caught my eye...
Woman Does 'Mouth-To-Beak' to Save Chicken
AP
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Feb. 7) - Sometimes a chicken does have lips, just not her own. Marian Morris saved her brother's exotic chicken, Boo Boo, by administering "mouth-to-beak" resuscitation on the fowl after it was found floating face down in the family's pond.
Morris, a retired nurse, said she hadn't had any practice with CPR in years, but that she was interested to see if she "still had it."
"I breathed into its beak, and its dad-gum eyes popped open," Morris said. "I breathed into its beak again, and its eyes popped open again. "I said, 'I think this chicken's alive now. Keep it warm."'
Morris said she was pleased to find that the bird she saved was an "exotic," and not just an ordinary chicken.
The chicken is called Boo Boo, because she is easily frightened. The family thought Boo Boo was startled and flopped into the pond.
Any ladies interested in giving me CPR? I've laughed myself silly! :lmao

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- A Council Bluffs man is accused of kidnapping his own wife, and prosecutors allege he devised a marriage contract to establish what his wife was to do, and when she was to do it.
Travis Frey, 33, is accused, among other things, of giving his wife chances to win "good behavior days."
Frey was in court Friday after he turned himself in to Pottawattamie County authorities on separate charges of downloading child pornography onto his home computer. A judge told Frey the charges stem from March 2005.
Frey's attorney, Bill McGinn, said the Pottawattamie County Attorney's Office must prove their case. "They have to show, first of all, what the images are. Second, they have to show he was the one that actually did the downloading," McGinn said.
Frey is already charged with first-degree kidnapping, which is a crime punishable by life in prison without parole. Frey also faces a charge of domestic assault causing bodily injury on his wife.
"The allegations are that he confined and subjected his wife to sexual abuse," said Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilber. According to court records, Frey's wife told police her husband tied her to their bed with a rope and sexually assaulted her at least three times. Frey's wife also provided police with an alleged "marriage contract," which was entitled "Contract of Wifely Expectations." In it, Frey allegedly gave his wife chances to earn "good behavior days" -- or GBDs -- by complying with certain demands, such as hygiene and self-care. "You will shave every third day," the contract states ... You will be naked within 20 minutes of the kids being in bed."
The document spells out how many points can be earned by performing certain sex acts. Frey's wife said she never signed the contract.
"I don't know how they can tie this to my client making any demands on his wife. I mean, I could have put these together. I mean, there's no names. There's names on them and everything, but anyone could have put these documents together," McGinn said. Frey's attorney said he intends to plead not guilty on all counts, and is expected to bond out of jail this week. :whee: :nu

Many states want to stop Iran from enriching uranium, fearing that the process would bring it to the threshold of possessing nuclear bombs.
On February 4, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported Iran to the UN Security Council and simultaneously called on its government to suspend all enrichment-related activities.
Instead, the Iranian government decided to suspend certain aspects of its co-operation with the IAEA and steam ahead with enrichment.

I agree, Dave. It is a near certainty that if Iran is allowed to develop nuclear capability, it will find its way to the tube in London, or downtown Chicago, central Toronto, or the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Conversely, legitimate development of nuclear energy is probably the most realistic path for third world countries to move forward.

In fact, I have been there -- these things happen -- we were pheasant hunting, and one of the members went where he shouldnt, and got hit -- just like this guy. By all accounts, the person who was shot was at fault. The injury isn't even serious enough to warrant a call to the police. You would only call the police if you felt a crime had been committed. I can't imagine anyone even considering that.
Drinking? You bring up an interesting point -- I don't think there is a law against discharging a firearm while intoxicated. But, I suppose they could, in order to establish negligence. Interesting thought, though!
I suppose the local branch of MAID (Mothers Against Irresponsible Discharges) could stop their work at the Home for Unwed Mothers, and begin to picket the White House for tighter firearms discharge control laws. Heck, maybe they can even get Cindy Sheehan to lead them -- I have no doubt that she believes that this is all part of a master plot to kill off all 78 year old lawyers in Texas, so that Halliburton can gain control of Texas oil reserves. I'm sure that Chavez and Castro would be more than willing to lend their support on the international front, not to mention people like Saddam Hussein who know that controlling the discharge of guns was directly responsible for their rise to power.
Pretty soon, we can require that any shooter announce his intentions in a clear and loud voice three times before firing, and that each weapon be retrofitted with a siren and flashing light that signals intent for 3 seconds before actually discharging.
And, notifying the press --- oh God, yes, they need to know everything the Vice President does. At a minimum, they should be notified immediately when he awakens, the size and location of his morning bowel movement, the number of toilet paper squares consumed (after all, the taxpayer IS paying for that!), not to forget that they REALLY need to know what he is having for breakfast. I suppose they could install a Hardon Alert Sensor too -- though with Mr. Cheney's medical problems, I suspect that wouldn't burn out many light bulbs from overuse. I think we should demand that all our leaders wear collars that broadcast their locations, so that the press can track them easier. We probably need to expedite the development of the IPUSS (Ink Pen Usage Sensor System), because, after all, we don't want Mr. Cheny to write anything without the press knowing it. You never know when he just might sign over the lease to the Louisiana Purchase to some nefarious underworld drug lord from downtown Marin county!
But, I think we need to take it a step further -- after all, Mr. Cheney IS a government employee, paid by taxpayers. Taxpayers have a right to know what their employees are doing. We should install the ESP (Excessive Sleep Prod), so that if Mr. Cheney sleeps more than his allotted 8 hours, it is immediately activated and he is awakened. Of course, because we know that the media is the only true watchdog, we would have to ensure that ESP alarms are posted in newsrooms nationwide.
Unquestionably, there is a plot here by right wing conservatives to take over the world -- by killing off one rich campaign contributor at a time. Of course, you could look at it the other way -- instead of spending all this money for prisons, we could just sentence a criminal to a hunting trip with the Vice President. That ought to really deter crime. Who knows? If that works, maybe we could use it on truants from the local high school, too !!

No not really, Did the VP have to take a test to see if he was drinking? Did the police get a chance to question him? If you or I did this I'm sure we wouldn't have the chance to to say no to these things.
He may now be facing criminal charges, since the lawyer has had a heart attack.

Just a question of what happens? Does the Supreme Court intervene?

By law, not by constitution, the vice president is subject to an impeachment process, the same as the president (though the process is different). If you recall, we had one VP, Spiro Agnew, who was very close to it, though he resigned. Violation of the law, though the most likely way, is not required in order for him to be impeached.
If the VP resigns or is impeached, the President will appoint a new one. Until then, the Senate will elect a President Pro Tem to manage Senate business. When the new VP is signed in, he will immediately take the position of President of the Senate, and the President Pro Tem will return to his previously slovenly ways of drugs, alcohol and underage call girls (after all, he IS Republican).

I agree, Barks --- it is amazing how much people want to gossip about such a non-incident; they want to paint a vast cover-up conspiracy; they want to assign "blame".
I can help --
The lawyer fucked up, and got rewarded for it.
The police have investigated, and no charges have been filed. I would think that would mean something -- unless, of course, the chief of police is sleeping with Cheney's wife, in which case there is probably a massive cover-up being orchestrated by the King of the Right Wing, who spends his time in a mountain cave somewhere in the hills of South Dakota (Oh wait -- there are NO hills in South Dakota!!! I wonder where he went --- I'll bet he is in Afghanistan with bin Laden!!)

I say each to there own, but dictator blair has ruled
They could now be hit for up to £2,500 rather than £200, but individuals who flout the prohibition, due to come into force in the summer of 2007, will still face a £50 spot fine.
Cancer Research UK said the ban represented the biggest step forward in public health for half a century and Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) said it was "absolutely delighted''.
BAN ON SMOKING IN THE UK
Peter Hollins, British Heart Foundation director general, predicted millions of lives could be saved, dubbing the ban "the best possible Valentine's gift from MPs to bar workers''.
While ASH director Deborah Arnott noted it had been won "without clear leadership from government, which only makes the result even more remarkable''.
However, there was anger from pro-tobacco groups and warnings many clubs would close.
Simon Clark, director of smoking support group Forest, attacked the "unnecessary and illiberal piece of legislation''.
"The Government should educate people about the health risks of smoking, but politicians have no right to force people to quit by making it more difficult for people to consume a legal product,'' he said.
George Dawson, secretary of the West Yorkshire branch of the Working Men's Club and Institute Union, said of the vote: "That will shut half the clubs down, definitely. It definitely will. You can't go outside in winter in Britain (to smoke). It is ridiculous."
The British Beer and Pub Association welcomed the "level playing field'', arguing the clubs were in direct competition with pubs.:nu

You will, My Friend, have to ask your actual Prime Minister, that man that you like so much, whom I admire only for his political maneouvring ( you haev to give him some credit for something there)...to place guns to shoot down the birds that come from Continental Europe and France.
Your sytem in the UK compared to that of France is very different. Here people march in the Streets against the Government. Actually too much. Since I arrived in France, I have not been here one single week without some strike... and demonstrations.
You are so anti-Blair and open about it. Why do you not go and make your voice heard with the good people of the United Kingdom? Your anti-Blair sentiments might have a good echo with more people. Or is it that it is politically incorrect at this time?
Do you really think that with the Conservatives in power, things will change?
I do not. I look at Bush, Chirac, Merkel in Germany, Bernasconi in Italy, Fox in Mexico, the Conservative that replaced rotten Martin in Canada, and others. Anything strike you in any way? Just nothing..one big FAT nothing.
I think we need major overhauls in many Western countries to handle the REAL problems that are at our doorsteps. I do not see one government in power at this time that is capable of handling anything except placing more monies in their pockets.
And this bird thing....well let's step up folks prudently...as we know nothing about bird flue...DOES IT REALLY EXIST...or is it another scheme to make monies for chemical labs? HAVE people really died of BIRD FLUE? Who do you believe when most doctors are paid by labs, when most EXPERTS of the prestigious World Health Organisation (WHO) are medical doctors?
One chap who said something correctly was by the way, DAVID, your Minister of Health about bird flue three days ago: "no one has conclusively died of bird flue as far as we know"....
Well enough of my rantings.... :spbx:

Well well you certainly covered everything in the soap box saga.. Im anti blair yes, because he has promised so much for this country and never got anything right. Id love to stand up and air my thoughts, I used to be a town Councillor and stood for many things and got recognised, but since moving I havent really voiced how I felt. Many things anger me with blair, since vbeing in IRaq, we have been bombed in London and since poking our nose in other affairs terror has come to London.. God help us had blair been around in the second world war he would have sold us out to Germany at the first thought of invasion. No my frirend Im not in the know like you and I applaud you with your speech, but I am anti blair very strongly. I believe that had Margret Thatcher been in government we wouldnt have the mess we have now with blair. The same as when Churchill was in power he stood the might of germany, italy, and dictators, he stood for freedom, Blair stands for sod all except higer taxes, unemployment, dirty hospitals, yob culture, allowing gun law. If he were to stay at home a bit more and sit down and listen to the people of Britain a bit more he wouldnt alienate us, but no, hes swanning around the world at our expense......Yes Id stand up and certainly try to do a better job, but I cant can I Im a nobody.......Now this bird flu business, I think its all being blown out of proportion, yes its another expense for the population to worruy about, the rich will get richer over it while the poor will get poorer....................:spbx: Prime Minister Dave has said his bit
