It's 2:30 pm Thanksgiving Day and Detroit is getting goatseed by the Tenessee Titans...um yeah, I'd have to say that this year my Lions have outdone themselves..usually they're just the worst team in the NFL.
This year they decided to make history.

I watched the game today, and when it was 35 - 3 in the 2nd quarter, I pretty much hung up any hopes that they would actually win one.
Yes, I am inclined to believe that they are officially the worst team in history.

STILL to early to tell...I tend to believe that on any given Sunday that can win. I do believe they ahve more talent than alot of winless teams from the past, but hte remaining schedule is tough..We will see

I hope they lose them all, I hate how the Fords have run this team into the gutter, maybe a 0-16 season will be enough to get Ford Sr. to turn the team over to his son. They are a joke and the fans have quit on them, almost 4 games in a row blacked out.

I dunno, Miami was pretty bad last year...1 - 15...
No, they may be in the top five or so once all is said and done, depending upon whether they actually win one in December.......
For my money, it's the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the first year of the franchise, finishing 0-14 (then going on to lose their first 12 games of 1977 before they finally won their first-ever game.....)
That team was atrocious. Detroit would be good enough to kick a Jason Hanson field goal to win. :)

The Lions are pretty bad. But the worst ever? I guess we'll have to see how the rest of the year plays out.
I couldn't finish watching the game because it was so pitiful. They may not be the worst time of all time but rank pretty high up there. It takes alot for me to actually turn off a football game.

I haven't tracked the Lions, even though they're in same division as the Bears
When I think of the Lions, I remember Barry Sanders. He was a class act

I'm not sure Jr. could do any better..I'd rather just see the Fords sell the team. Maybe the fans could boycott Ford Motor Co. until that happens..It's a catchy slogan: "Support the Lions--Drive a Chevy!!!"

I think it was Jr. who got the ball rolling for millen to be axed. He was asked publicly and he said if he was in charge, changes would be made, and a few days later millen was gone.

The Lions, as bad as they are this year, aren't near as bad as the teams were during the "strike years" about 20 years ago. THOSE teams really sucked. The Lions show some promise, they really need an offensive line badly and a quarterback. They have good recievers and a decent running back. Thier defense is mediocre, but not the worst I've ever seen.

I believed Millan needed to be axed after the 1st season. So did about 1 million other people...
If saying that Millian needed to be fired 10 motherfucking years after any reasonable person would have said the same...if that suddenly qualifies Ford jr. to run the team...well, Jeezus...talk about having some low fucking expectations from ownership...(of course that comes w/ following the Lions..)
The Fords are a virus. They need to go...

I think there is a power struggle between Ford Sr and Ford Jr concerning the Lions.
We can only hope for something better, but like you said. The Fords need to go
MunkyBrain
12-01-2008, 12:55 PM
The Fords are the one constant...coaches, players and GMs have all come and gone but the team has consistently been an NFL underachiever.
It's also intersesting to note that Ford purchased the team in 1960...which is right about when they started their suckocracy...
The Thanksgiving game was the worst I've ever seen...and that's saying plenty. Its just really depressing....
Here's something that does make me smile...
September 25, 2008, DETROIT
— Lions owner William Clay Ford, Sr. expressed consternation and anger Monday upon realizing that Matt Millen had been acting as president and general manager of the team for the past three years. "I could have sworn I'd fired that lunkhead back in '05 and promoted Mariucci," Ford said when reporters questioned him about Millen leaving the team. "I guess that's why I kept seeing him in the halls. My God, how's the team been doing?" Ford excused himself without further comment on the issue, saying he had to call star running back Barry Sanders and assure him his job with the team was safe regardless of front-office issues.

They may become the worst team in NFL history by going 0-16 this year. If they do win one, however, they can still cling to the label of "Worst Franchise in NFL History" for at least one more year. These jokers make the Cardinals look like a model franchise.

I know they are bad... but I still think that title belongs to the Tampa Bay Bucs... 1976, 0-14 and only averaged 9 points a game... ya have to hand it to Matt Millen.. he sure did wreck that team for at least another 3-4 years, gotta be hardcore to be a Lions fan that's for sure.

I wasn't going to say anything, but since you brought it up.
Yes, this year they are the worst team. The Pats lived with the same situation for a number of years with an owner that basically had his head up his a**. Craft took over and look at them now.

Amazing what a year can do. Maybe there is hope for the Lions in the future...

Not likely.... The Falcons owner actually cares about winning, they struggled thanks to Mr Dogfighter screwing them over, not sure if they have even recovered all that money that he owes them, the Falcons are a good franchise and make sound decisions, the Lions let Millen G.M. about 5 years to long.

Maybe, but if you can get a good QB pick this year and add some other good picks (like the Falcons did last year) you might be able to turn it around faster than you think. The Falcons first 5 picks from last year's draft were quality pics that are contributing.

Thats the biggest mistake they could make (see David Carr/Houston Texans) ... you have to build the team from the trenches out, if there is no one to block for that brand new QB ya just got he will get killed as a rookie, sophomore, and after two years you wont be able to get him to even say hike let aloe win a game. Takes a QB rookie generally 2 years to get the NFL game(some exceptions here.. but even Payton Manning struggled his first year) as well as a O-line to jell. Just my opinion but all the football I have watched (According to the wife WAY to much) its the trend, take Titans for example, average QB but their Oline and D line are phenomenal hence the record.

Okay, I'll give you that. I guess I've gotten spoiled with Matt Ryan being a freak of a rookie. So if you can get several good picks this year for O-line and Defense and grab a QB next year, maybe you'll be okay in about 3 years. Hang in there man. Take heart in this...at least it can't get worse.

Ryan was a solid QB at B.C,, but the Falcons are really smart in the sense they only give him 3 reads on the same side of the field, they are brilliant in how they have handled him. And as far as take heart.. I am a Charger fan eating a huge oe piece of humble pie, I just hate to see the what has happened to the Lions whom wasted the talents of the best RB in history due to years of poor management

Okay, well glad to see that you aren't in the hole with the Lions, but ouch, the Chargers are falling apart.
As for the Lions, I agree about what they did to Sanders, and right now they are doing it to Calvin Johnson too.

The Lions would be in good shape for the upcoming draft, if it wasnt for the fact that they are the Lions. Years and years of bad picks in the first round, I think they only have two left (Johnson and Sims) from the past 7 years. They need to draft defense first, I think they will have two picks in the first round (thank you Cowboys). They just need to let another teams management draft for them.

That and there is really no clear cut #1 kind of guy coming out of the draft this year, if they could trade down and grab more picks that would be best, but no one this year is going to jump up for anyone, there just is'nt that franchise guy coming out of the draft.

Don't be so sure, look at Miami, first year coach and GM and they are competitive, I didn't say good, I said competitive, it will take a few years to be good, but what a turnaround! It can happen, have faith! I am not sure, but I believe they have won more games this year, than the previous three. Combined that is.

Miami actually had a good team, Cameron was just not what they needed as a head coach, nor was Saban....Parcells is famous for taking a team with mid range talent, getting them to believe and playing physical football. The dolphins have made some great moves in the past year and a half getting Porter, Pennignton, and actually getting Ricky to stop the weed and help pound the rock. Their biggest problem (in my opinion) was not talent, it was heart, like the chargers 14-2 and 2 years later they are 4-8.... what changed?.... coaching.

Their one reason to exist is to make other teams look good in the highlight tapes... :(

Yeah Shawn, Not sure what the enamorization (yes I made that word up) with Norv Turner is. That guy is a great coordinator, but a lousy head coach. He has notoriously not only underachieved everywhere as a head coach, but has succeeded in running three teams into the ground now. The only one worse is probably Dave Wannstedt. Who single handedly killed my beloved Dolphins after successfully mediocerizing the Bears. Now he is off killing the tradition of Pitt Football.
