View Full Version : Question-Avatar Rules

I take it the rules for what type of avatar you can use only applies to certain members. As I have seen several on here that actually break those rules listed eg: no hand down or over pants, no naked breasts. So what is the go??
Naked breasts are allowed, as long as no one else is touching them!
And we cannot always see all the avatars until we come across them or we are told about them!
So yes the rules do apply to everyone!
And we do our best to make sure of that, hopefully the ones which slip by won't stay unnoticed for long!

Thanks for clearing that up. I have noticed since posting this thread that the majority of those avatars have now been changed.

My vote is and will always be to remove the ability to have avatars all together. By removing the abillity, we solve two problems...1. people complaining that we aren't removing other's avatars fast enough and 2. the time we are having to spend ensuring that adults don't act like children. (well that last one is a farce; however it would be a step in the right direction). ;)

I agree with you Barkiss...it would save me a ton of time in trying to find new avatars all the damned time, although I do find it fun to sift through for the funny and/or twisted ones.

If you remove the ability to have avatars...you will lose me. Thats one of the things that I have had the most fun with. Letting me show a little of whats inside me....the part of me that I can't show in my everyday life.
I'm sure most people understand how difficult it is for the supermods
(which most of us are not) to keep up with policing the site. It takes a lot of work and time. The other people who don't really care about what they're signing up for, only see the free fun part....the trash talk, the sexy pictures, the chat room etc.
At one time I was spending a lot of time here, many many hours. As a moderator....I wished for the ability to do more....to be able to assist members, delete...change....correct birthdates for those members not quite able or interested enough to do it for themselves. Would have saved me lots of useless typing trying to explain why they needed to go fix the avatar or the birthdate. I no longer desire to be so involved on that end....I'm over it. I'm happy with the little bit of moderating that I can do. If I'm lucky...lol...I get to delete some spam now and then.
If there was something we could do to make sure they read the rules about avatars and everything else before they have access to post their own.
I think very few who sign up even bother to read the rules on the first page. Its ridiculous yes...and you are always gonna have those who buck the rules no matter what. Life would be boring if we all followed the rules to the letter, what would there be for us to chuckle about?
Breathe Barkiss.....its gonna be alright.

I like avatars....mostly for the fun of them. They can be very hot, very funny and very cool. And they do show a piece of the person that selected them.

Hey I love the avatars! You make a good point Mcat. People bucking the rules. This isn't kindergarten, this isn't high school. This is not even our site. It is Penny's site and in order to keep it she has made the rules about the avatars. The problem I have is that MANY REGULAR MEMBERS continue to act like kids and use avatars they know they can not use. I spend way too much time going through the entire members list because PEOPLE CHOOSE NOT to follow the rules, and after repeatedly changing avatars I stopped chuckling. The rules are not that difficult to follow I don't how much clearer we can make it, there is no bargaining on this matter. This not a porn site and certain things are NOT allowed period. Using Custom avatars is a privilege Penny has given, please show her some respect and follow her rules.

And if anyone thinks those are my legs in that avatar...well hell...I hope you enjoy your dream

I think some of the advertising needs to be changed then.....the picture of the dripping lips sure does smack of porn if you ask me.
As for members that use avatars that they know they should not use...those are the people who need to be punished and their privilege to choose should be taken away for a certain period of time or say permanently after 3 warnings. Just a suggestion....and we also need to fix it so they can't even enter chat or post without the age being visible. That right there takes a lot of time too. There must be a way to take care of it.

I just don't understand what must be on the mind of some folks who seem to delight in spending their time trying to find rules that someone is in violation of just so they can complain or make an official report or wtf. I'll have to say it reeks of someone so bored and angry with life that they aren't happy unless they can stir up enough shit so everyone else is just as unhappy and angry as they are.
Sure some things in life are important and we all should be on the lookout for things like drug abuse and dealing, child abuse, senior citizen abuse, in other words crimes that do harm to people, etc. I can certainly understand and agree with the offensiveness of pictures of pedophilia of any sort, sodomy, bestiality, and so on...I can understand the site owner needing to make sure no laws are violated and on and on...But my God, just to complain either privately or publicly because someone may or may not have an avatar that is in exact strict compliance....Shit!!!!! Give me a break and get a friggen life.
I know it's totally out of character for me but I just gotta call Bullshit on complaints that infer and allege preferentially toward anyone on this site, especially complaints without any specificity or claims of offensiveness. I, for one, detest people who seem to constantly look for what others are doing wrong instead of doing something right either for themselves or for someone else.
I can highly recommend taking a break from being the self appointed avatar police and looking for the things that are right instead of digging to find something that is wrong. Not to mention giving the moderators a break from dealing with what must seem to be endless and needless complaints.
It’s the season of giving, how about trying to give someone a smile or something to improve their life instead of trying to give them a pain in the ass. Honestly, I can tell you from experience it will make a huge difference in your life!
Cheers, have a good day!

Why is having to follow rules that are established to KEEP THE SITE OUT OF LEGAL TROUBLE SO WE CAN ALL STILL BE HERE such a freakin' problem?!?!?!!???
I'm sorry folks, but this site is classified as "adult"! Why can't we be? Shiane pasted the rules above, AGAIN! There are eight! now READ THEM closeley and pay attention to EXACTLY what they say! Where is there ANYTHING that is designed to give anyone a hard time? There's NOT! At all! They are quite obviously, to anyone with one eye and half sense, designed to keep our classification OUT of the porn market (and all of it's special laws and expenses) or copyright infringement.
I enjoy being here and I'd like to continue to do so. If it weren't for the mods who VOLUNTEER their time to deal with people who are, sorry folks, either too stupid or inconsiderate to take a second to consider if they are breaking, not just the site rules, but the LAW, before they put up an avatar (that they will probably change in a few days anyway) we wouldn't be able to!
Why don't we all act like the adults we are supposed to be, and PAY ATTENTION before we post an avatar? I think Lena, Barkiss, Shiane and all the others would probably rather spend their time killing spammers and chatting with us than babysitting and listening to a bunch of "adults" whining like toddlers over having to "play nice" and obey simple rules that are there for this site's and it's members' protection!!!!! And then their friends chiming in to "support" them in their attempts at "bucking the system". It doesn't make you cool, it doesn't make you somebody who stands out or is a rugged individualist, it makes you an idiot and a whiner.
Penny and Mods! PLEASE! Put a stop to this once and for all! Just warn 'em once, and if they don't get the point, take away their avatar privileges! Why waste time arguing? If they aren't smart enough to figure it out, don't waste your time giving them more opportunity to prove it! I mean, anybody can make a mistake once in a while, so warnings are good. And Newbies may need a chance to get oriented a bit. But if it's a long time member that knows better, just lock them out! End of story. If you want, allow them to petition for reinstatement after X number of days or whatever. If we lose a few over that, oh well!!!
Sorry folks. Most of you know I'm not the temper tantrum sort, but this is just too stupid for words. Grow up, follow the rules, and go on! And if your friends aren't smart enough to figure it out and want to challenge the mods, keep your mouth shut and let them look stupid!

I'm not sure what they teach in Kentucky in the American history classes but perhaps you need reminding that this site exists in part and you are here today able to voice your opinion because there were some willing to "Buck the System" while being called idiots and whiners. There were also some who were willing to "lose a few" in an attempt to shut them up. I thank God they were leaders willing to "Buck the System".
It's not new that some see their world as either black or white while others see the same world as shades of gray. That's about as fundamental in people as it gets. Furthermore, it is quite common for two people read the same thing and understand it differently.... pay attention and you'll see what I'm talking about.
So I'm not really sure who you were calling all the names above but I will tell you that I will never be shut up...Never...not as long as I am still waking up above room temperature, I won't be.
And while I'm at it...there is a way to communicate effectively without stooping so low as calling folks names or implying that they are of less intelligence than you perceive yourself to be. The key word there being perceive.
Not sure I'm the one that needs to breathe...:) I'm merely pointing out how silly it is to complain about something so silly as a picture which is used to trick other users into believing something you are not.
Wow......I never considered using an avatar than wasn't ME as "tricking" someone else. :sc

LOL. A Texan is lecturing a Kentuckian on American history. A hillbilly and a cowpoke arguing legal and political history! Sorry, had to chuckle over that one!
In part yes, you are correct. We should be free to voice our opinions. That IS how and why this country came to be. And if we were talking about the fundamental liberties of people, as in the founding of the country, or civil rights, you would have a valid point.
However, this is NOT about the entire country. It is a "private" club that people CHOOSE to join. When you CHOOSE to be a member of an organization, one kind of expects you like what they represent, and would be interested in doing things that would benefit said organization.
When a few very simple, non-discriminatory, non-preferential rules are established for the use of a single PRIVILEGE in a this site, I can't understand why it's too much too ask that people observe them. And, again, they are obviously not there to annoy people, they are there to prevent the SITE from having legal trouble. And to protect minors who CAN access the site from being exposed to images classified as "pornographic".
I make no judgement whatsoever on the avatars themselves or their user's interpretation. The mods have accepted that responsibility and they should be allowed to exercise that responsibility as they see fit without a bunch of crap from people. Yes, we should have the right to express our opinions! No question there. But where is your "opinion" going to be when the site gets classified as porno and Penny can't afford the legal support? Are YOU going to foot the bill? I know I can't. What about the other whiners? (And sorry, I don't apologize for using the term in this context. If you break rules or laws intentionally or through negligence, it doesn't make you misunderstood or "within your rights", it makes you a speeder, a thief, a jaywalker, whatever.) They aren't going to pay for it either.
Nobody is FORCED to be here. If you don't like the rules, I agree that you should, just as our legal system is set up, be free to address the issue. There's a process for that. Speak to the people in authority here. But, just like in our legal system, in the meantime, FOLLOW THE RULES!!! And if, after being addressed, it isn't going to be changed to suit your tastes, sorry, conform or leave. A private club is NOT a democracy. I feel the mods are WAY beyond lenient on this and should not put up with NEAR the crap they do over it.
I'm sorry, but those rules ARE just black and white. They exist for very simple reasons with very profound consequences NOT FOR THE ONE WHO BREAKS THEM, BUT FOR THE SITE AND ALL THE REST OF US! They are to protect the site. Not to inconvenience anyone.

Actually I didn't intend for it to sound like I was arguing, lecturing or even debating. I'll be the first to admit that I'm rather limited in my vocabulary and knowledge base so sparing for a war of words is only asking for trouble, I know...the cows I do poke always see things my way in the end, even without much name calling,,,usually. And I usually tell them that I don't have to always be right and it's true, sometimes I'm wrong just so they'll see that I'm only human. I remember once I even tried to tell them everything, even my rules, were either black or white but they still insist that to them everything is in shades of gray. Again, showing them I don't always have to be right.
Just because I'm a product of the 60's doesn't mean I still have to believe that rules were made to be broken, and in fact I don't. I now understand that some wars are not worth fighting while other's are worth dying for. I'm not opposed to rules nor am I opposed to me getting a speeding ticket if I get caught speeding but I don't believe we ought to expunge all of those who speed and count them among the "worth losing" either.
Some things we just have to accept as a reality and one of them is that as long as there are rules and people there are going to be those who push against the boundaries...and since this private site, as you call it, is open to the public and in fact exists as a place of entertainment, a place of solace, and an emotional shelter for people, cowpokes and hillbillies alike, I think it's unreasonable to expect people to not be people. And when you look at the overall value of us all being different, surely we can agree that we need some of all types to make it a real community. Yep even if some of my cows are a little rowdy and think it's their right to stretch my fences, they all make a contribution to the herd in one way or another.
And finally I'd like to address the issue of moderator bashing, (my phrase) I know I haven't read everything posted or seen everything talked about in chat but I've yet to see anything overtly opposing the need for or appreciation of our moderators. While I haven't always seen eye to eye in every instance I certainly hold no resentment or animosity toward them, not one. In fact there's at least one that I might fall in love with if I wasn't careful. Nor have I seen anyone else outside of a few instances of momentary outbursts of anger. I hope it goes without saying that I believe we need them and that I believe they go far above any expectation of what could be asked of someone who volunteers their time, energy, and patience. And I and all of us recognize and appreciate they're efforts and work. But it is voluntary and along with it I'm sure that they recognize the difficulties and problems of keeping the rules and peace. If we all complied with the rules they wouldn't be needed and we'd all be stuck with the same little sign over there under our names, right?

I've never found your vocabulary or insight lacking OAK. And I'm glad you don't seem to be taking offense. None was intended in any way. I've always enjoyed your posts and have a great deal of respect for you. I thought as I sent I should not have used the word "arguing", but didn't change it. I enjoy a good discussion, all viewpoints welcomed, and yeah, I can be proven wrong as well. Sometimes on a regular basis.
Your words gave me pause to consider mine and I will therefore formally apologize for use of the words idiot and whiner. It WAS inappropriate, and I will try to be more careful in the future.
As for the rules in question, yeah, there's probably some gray on a couple of them. Some of them there absolutely is not. A picture of a kid is a picture of a kid. There is no opinion there. It is or it is not. Same with celebrities. It is or it is not. And these are two of the biggest as far as potential consequences for the site and it's owner. Why would someone even try to argue about that?
As for the "gray areas", that is why the mods are there, to make those calls. Obviously someone might disagree with those calls. We all have our own opinions. But the MODS are the ones who are charged with that responsibility. If you want to question, fine. Even the mods encourage people to talk to them if there is a question. PRIVATELY!!! Just as the mods discuss those issues with the person in question. They don't publicly berate someone. At least I've never seen it. But what is the purpose of starting a thread over a dispute over an avatar? And that is where I have witnessed "mod bashing".
This thread was started by someone relatively new who didn't realize the fact that the mods aren't omnipotent or constantly watching or here 24 hours a day. She figured out pretty quickly that it takes time to see them and correct them, and said so. That's what I intended to convey. Questioning is one thing, and it's encouraged. Starting a public argument and trying to stir up sentiments of anger at the mods is quite another. If you want to question, question. But when the question is answered, please, be an adult and accept the decision of the persons charged to make those decisions. They are looking out for all member's welfare, not picking on certain people! Even our court system only allows a certain number of appeals before you're required to drop the issue.

It’s the season of giving, how about trying to give someone a smile or something to improve their life instead of trying to give them a pain in the ass. Honestly, I can tell you from experience it will make a huge difference in your life!
Cheers, have a good day!

Um OK, not complaining just setting things straight. I was slightly confused as not everyone seems to adhere to the rules Penny has set out. And if you must know was just checking for future reference for an avatar I was contemplating using. Gee take a chill pill.

Wow leighm....look what you started......lol
Yeah looks like I opened a hornets nest just by trying to clear up a rule, gee whiz.
Just a suggestion for the future, if you have a question regarding whether or not an avatar is appropriate...just email it to one of us....we can tell you right away.
Or just read the rules...follow them whether others do or not.
Easy as pie....mmmmm.... chocolate pie

Sorry if you thought I was poking at you Leighm. I had hoped I made it clear that I realized you were new to the site and didn't realize the magnitude of the problem, then saw the ones you were wondering about get changed and figured out what was going on. There were just some points raised I felt compelled to discuss. You probably didn't see some of the threads that were started over this that got downright nasty. Some even had to be removed entirely.
I just don't get why people can't understand it's not about "following rules", it's about protecting the site's future and Penny's financial stability!
Penny can't afford to fight the legal battle that would ensue over an "illegal" avatar being spotted by some celeb's lawyer (copyright infringement) or some overzealous government servant with nothing better to do (we get reclassified as a true porn site). So the site, and therefore Penny, would be embroiled in a legal battle it/she doesn't have the resources to fight; which means the end of the site. The actual OFFENDER just walks away, his/her precious right to free speech intact. Penny has a lawsuit on her hands, and the site goes away. I don't want to see that.
Sorry if I upset you. My comments were not directed at you. As you said, you were simply getting clarification. And welcome to the site! You're getting close to the magic 500!

I take it the rules for what type of avatar you can use only applies to certain members. As I have seen several on here that actually break those rules listed eg: no hand down or over pants, no naked breasts. So what is the go??I think the mods do a great job trying to keep up with avatars. They really should not even have to keep checking. Especially with peeps who have been here for a while...

Wow......I never considered using an avatar than wasn't ME as "tricking" someone else. :sc
If You ask if it's me in my avatar I'll tell you straight up yes or no.
Not sure there's many people who assume that the "av" is a REALISTIC representation of the person.
I try to us av's that represent me.
Doesn't have to BE me.
Is that tricking someone?
Well if it helps, you'll ALWAYS be a Chupacachabra to me :ok

Not sure I'm the one that needs to breathe...:) I'm merely pointing out how silly it is to complain about something so silly as a picture which is used to trick other users into believing something you are not.
what??...ur not a dog with a toupe???...OMG, I have been TRICKED!!!!:yks
The fact is, a lot of people have gone over the rules...me included....but a lot of us change our avatars quite frequently there is no way for anyone to keep up....and I have seen some that have been in poor taste and that includes the sign ones and the non-sexual ones....by old and newer members....

Omg! I thought most guys would just look at the avatar and say "Cool" or "That's Hot" and just go on with life. It shouldn't be a big deal, it's just a picture. Besides, sex sells, and nothing gets a man's attention like visual stimulation. That's all it is. We are vying for your attention. You should be flattered. Just be glad us women aren't jumping around and saying that's sexual discrimination, and you shouldn't even be looking at those avatars. You should be more interested in reading what we have to say. LOL. We look at guys avatars, and wishing you guys would show a little more of.....your.........rear! Yes, we are just as visually stimulated as you! Have fun with them, and don't make life anymore difficult for Penny than it needs to be.

The advertising keeps the site alive, and its milk on the lips. :lf I dont have X rated adds on the site and if I did I could make a profit because those are the ones that get noticed and clicked on. I am trying to keep this place around for the long haul not just make a quick buck. X rated pics draw the wrong kind of attention to a place like this.
