There was a bit of information I posted as useless trivia, that WB pointed out should be considered fairly serious. So here we have a new thread where such tidbits of important but little know information can be found. FIRST POST:

Whenever medical doctors go on strike, a most interesting phenomenon occurs - death rates go down! In 1976 in Bogota, Columbia medical doctors went on strike for 52 days, with only emergency care available. The death rate dropped by 35%. In 1976 in Los Angeles County a similar doctors' strike resulted in an 18% drop in mortality. As soon as the strike was over, the death rate went back to normal. A 50% decrease in mortality occurred in Israel in 1973 when there was a one month doctor's strike!

Good news so far today from Symantec....There are no severe threats at this time.

However it is suggested you verify your anti virus definition files are current..
symantec released updates yesterday...

For those of you who keep forgetting to protect your system and are getting tired of excessive popups and adwear getting in your way, and even if you just want some free cool software, remember one word....Google.
That right Google is much more than just a search engine. Check out the goodies available in the Beta Google Pack:

Thanks for the tip Zif. I use Google as my sole search engine, so they should have some cool stuff in there.

a beta pack?? have you tried it?? i don't trust anything with beta attach to it....the majority of items have all been out for a while and are things I have run for a few years..... I just ran the pack installer and only had 2 new items, but updates were available for most of the rest. Yes I trust them, and I use these products daily in my job..... If you trust me, you can trust google.

I like the Google Earth tool, and I use Spybot to search for spyware on my pc too. I already have McAffee Internet Suite loaded, but those tools offered are really good for those who don't have some other protection. It's pretty cool that they have the latest Adobe reader available as well.:)

perhaps this is a good time to explain why I feel this way, and whay makes me think I know anything about it..... for the last 6 years my job has been pc support. From cleaning and repairing the opperating systems to hardware and optional installed software..... that means spy ware and virus removal and repair, and I have seen some extensive damage caused by careless web surfing. Those annoying popups are more than just irritating... they are a program YOU DID NOT ASK FOR running on your system doing lots of nasty little things that slow your systems speed down, as well as sending your browsing habits to there "parent server". The majority of spyware is designed to run ONLY on Micro Soft's Internet Exlpoder.. I mean Explorer. Most viruses are designed for windows operating systems. so if you use either you need to protect yourself. Sometimes it can be as easy as running a scan to find something before it can corupt your system.
I am not going to turn this into a lecture on internet security at this time, merely attempting to explain why I feel these programs are worth having for the most part. The fin ones are just that....fun! google earth is cool! and I have been a google talk and gmail user for almost a year now....highly recomend both....
Trillian is a great cross platform chat client.....but you can add or remove programs from the pack..... Adaware is a must!! firefox SHOULD be... but those are just opinions.....

Think about this the next time you order Mexican food....

The word avocado comes from the Spanish word aguacate which is derived from the Aztec word ahuacati which means testicle.

So you're saying it would take lot of balls to eat guacamole on heuvos with a side order of machitos?
