I've been looking at photos today of different cities around the world.
If you could post a picture here it would be great. If not tell me where you are from and I'll take pleasure in finding it and posting it here.[while the mood lasts anyway]
Let me know a city or large enough town ...I don't care if you have a house in the mountains. Just tell me what mountain.

This is where I grew up. I miss it. It has about 5 million people.
Its a beautiful city........
I was born and raised in London, Ontario, Canada. It's just over 350,000 people. I've lived all over Canada and came back here to raise my son so he would know his grandmothers. It's a beautiful city with the feel of an overgrown town; very community oriented.

it has about 10,000,000 people... records say 6mil but taxes are less if you don't register here and stay registered in the countryside..

Tulsa is the second-largest city in Oklahoma. As of the revised 2004 census report, the city had a total population of 387,807, with 930,842 in the greater metro area. Tulsa is the 45th largest city in the United States and the 93rd largest city in North America.
Tulsa, while no longer the Oil Capital of the World, is still an important energy center. Other important industries include aerospace, telecom, high tech, insurance, car rental companies, and river transportation.
This link actually shows more of what the city has to offer.

In my years, I have travelled all over the world -and lived in most parts. None of them has captured my attention like Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs is located on a high desert mesa at the base of Pike's Peak (the base!! We are 6000 ft above sea level, and we look down on those people in the "Mile High City - Denver!). The city is spread out over miles, and conforms to foothills, with its valleys and canyons. Some areas of the city don't even seem to be connected to the rest of the city.
Because we are tucked up against the mountains, we get very little snow and rain. We average about 320 days a year of sunshine.
I can't begin to capture the elegance and magnificence of the scenery here. But, I have captured a few pictures from the Web just to give you a taste.
This picture shows you the relationship of the city to Pike's Peak. The town is about 500,000 people.

This picture is one of several streams that run thru the foothills.

Seven Falls is located right in Colorado Springs. To get a sense of the size, note the car at the bottom of the falls.

In town, we have a park called Garden of the Gods - a beautiful place to visit.

Very nice, Dave --- as an afficionado of history, I am always impressed with the idea of walking where so much history has been made. Many years ago (early 80s), I was stationed in England and traveled all over. I have been through Norwich, and enjoyed the greenery and peace of the area.
The sense of timelessness and history is overwhelming.

Thankyou Spare, Norwich is fine but sadly nightime you cant go out the yob culture take over. The Broads are very nice and idylcc, yes you are pretty safe in the villages, and here in Walsingham time has forgot the village, very periodic as in the 18th century.

I have business interests in Brazil and travel there about 4 times a year. It's an amazing country, if they would just shoot all the politicians (now that I think about it -- sounds like the US). As with most of the Third World, the corruption stifles the country and really hurts the people.
Most of my time is spent in two cities -- Recife and Palmas. Recife is on the eastern most tip of Brazil. In fact, it was used as staging for flights into Africa during World War !!. It is an amazing old city -- I remember one day I went out for lunch with the director of the National Bank. We had beer in front of a building that was built in 1637 --- that's only about 20 years after the Pilgrims landed in US. Recife has beautiful blue water, white beaches, and some of the most gorgeous bikinis you could ever imagine!
Palmas, on the other hand, is an inland city that didn't exist 20 years ago. It was a cow pasture. Brazil is split down the middle by the Toquantins River, and the government decided to give it the Nile treatment -- create a series of hydroelectric dams that would provide an energy backbone the length of the country. Palmas selected as the first site -- it is now a thriving city of about 275,000 people.

This is our church in our lane.......Set up on a hill, overlooking the village of Gt. Walsingham, this pretty little church is of 14th century origin. http://www.norfolkcoast.co.uk/images/GWalsinghChrchclose.jpg
Inside its tower are three bells made in Kings Lynn (http://www.norfolkcoast.co.uk/location_norfolk/VP_KingsLynn.htm) between 1330 and 1350, still used today.
And Norwich itself the City of East Anglia is
Norwich, the capital of Norfolk, was once second only to London in importance, growing out of several small Saxon settlements at the lowest fording point along the River Wensum.
Before the Norman Conquest of 1066, Norwich was one of the largest towns in England. The conquerors built a castle and a cathedral, and established a new market place which is still in use today.
In 1194 Norwich was granted the status of a city, while in 1404 it was given the privilege of appointing a mayor, two sheriffs and aldermen to run its affairs.

I love old buildings and towns........... Thanks DaveThis is our church in our lane.......Set up on a hill, overlooking the village of Gt.

The ruins of the famous priory are now included in the extensive grounds of Walsingham Abbey, the property of Mr. Henry Lee Warner. Visitors have permission to see these ruins on Wednesdays and Fridays, by application at the lodge of the abbey.
Walsingham is a pretty village 5 miles from Wells-on-Sea. It possesses a noble church in the Perpendicular style, an ancient town pump, and two wishing wells, which were formerly believed to possess miraculous powers, for the legend is that they sprang from the ground at command of the Virgin. Walsingham was an important place for many centuries, for it contained the famous shrine of the Virgin, or, as it was called, “Our Lady of Walsingham.” This far-famed chapel of the Virgin was founded by Ricoldie, the mother of Geoffrey de Faverches. When Geoffrey set out on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, he granted to God and St. Mary, and to Edwy, his clerk, the chapel which his mother Ricoldie had built at Walsingham, with other possessions, requesting him to found a priory there. It became one of the richest in the world. From the very commencement there was an unceasing flow of pilgrims from all nations to it. Several kings and queens of England, and among them Henry VIII., paid their devotions there. Erasmus, who visited the priory in 1511, derided its enormous wealth. Parts of the road leading to this priory are known to this day as the “Walsingham Way” and the “Palmer’s Way.” It is said more pilgrims came to Walsingham than to the shrine of St. Thomas à Becket at Canterbury. The monks taught the people that the “Milky Way” pointed to the shrine. Hence the Norfolk people called it the “Walsingham Way." This shrine was destroyed at the dissolution of monasteries in 1539.

No it is a pub, its called " The Bull Inn" its in Walsingham just opposite the pump you saw in the picture, it has the real open log fires in the winter, the only reason I dont go in the pubs in the village is the cost factor, its over £2.50 per pint ( sterling) you only got to have 4 and thats over £10 sterling.

You got a horse, my wife would be jealous, LOL complaints we dont get them either as down our road just 11 bungalows, the view out the front looks over fields and woods, all the trees in their greens, we are back from the road 50 ft and its only a lane, to get to my post office you go over a fford, our back garden is over 200 ft from the Wells to Fakenham road, its what people go to Yorkshire for and its on our front door so to speak.:wa:

There is loads of salmon, pike and trout fishing, hunting (if you like that sort of thing) the highland games are fun, especially the Lonach Gathering at the end of August. The skiing can be great but the last couple of years the snow hasn't been that good.
However I like to come home to the remoteness, the quiet "I vant to be alone..." ;)

Well Cotties I live in the mountains of BC...pretty difficult not to... as we are very mountainous...but the most spectacular views of the Rockies are in Alberta the neighbouring Province...Yes I drive there frequently because it is awe inspiring. The main areas are around Banff and Lake Louise.I actually live near Kelowna in wine country.. but as I said mountains are all over....here they are smaller tho. Other spectacular mountains are in the coastal ranges of BC.
Very cool place Rhumba! :55
