Yeah, I've been gone a while and I'm still catching up on some things, including the oft-mentioned negativity and decline in fun here on the site. I have to say that, though I may have been blind to it before, it is indeed evident now. It is not so much that the fun and flirting are gone (though I do think it has waned). What I distinctly see is more sweeping judgments and generalizations about others' motives, lives, circumstances, and comments that, quite frankly, nobody here is qualified to make (generalization intended). The "sanctuary" (credit to MSK) that Penny, Lena and others built here no longer seems quite that free. Reacting and over-reacting to words typed on a keyboard without asking for clarity, fear of posting because of how it might be perceived (and by whom it is perceived). Maybe I am just a silly old guy with an overly-ideal sense of this site and the rich community of good people who could share thoughts, fantasies, the good, and the bad (cautiously, but without fear). Or, maybe I'm just having one of those days. In any case, there are plenty of other places one can go to espouse their unsolicited opinions and judgements. I just did not think this is the site for that (I'll spare you the long list of related quotes and coloquialisms).

Ummm, if you stay long enough, you are bound to see it all. This place can be a lot like high school at times with some of the disagreements and arguments. But just like everything else, it passes. It's just like a family gathering. Its a lot of fun, and everyone has a good time, until one little issue breaks out, then everyone gets involved. I have been here for over 3 years, and this does not compare to past times when people weren't getting along. I still have a a great time when I come here. A lot of my past friends have moved on, and some are still here. But I always make new friends, and will continue to do so. I guess I just ignore the disagreements and don't get involved. You get out of this site what you put into it. Just like anything else. If you get involved in the negativity, then you have no one to blame but yourself. If you use it just to flirt, joke around, and meet friends, then this site will be a great reward to you as it has been to me. I am happy to have found this site, because even though I have not met more than 1 or 2 people from this site, I still consider them my friends. Therefore this place will never be more then fun for me. As Tara Reid said in the movie "Van Wilder," after hearing it from Van, who got it from one of his friends whom he met in the 8 years he attended Coolidge College.

Well, without making a negative, somewhat sweeping statement of your own, MoM, I do see there's some truth in what you're highlighting.

But, at the end of the day, it is just another grumble! I am not saying I never grumble here, or that there isn’t a forum on the internet that doesn’t have its share of grumbling, but when grumbling manifests itself on a site like this, the primary object is going to be affected. There have been reasons to grumble recently, get angry, and be sad, but...you've got to plough on.

Everyone is responsible for their own happiness on this site. What you get from it – and the manner in which you behave – is all down to you. We can all try and foster the right atmosphere and culture, but the fun you have here lies at your own door.

I don’t feel a thread (however well intended) can encourage the prosperity of the forum. The secret lies in the outlook of its members, and in remaining steadfast at challenging times. We are M&F. You will be assimilated! It is a challenging time outside at the moment, hardly the sexiest climate to begin with. It is swings and roundabouts – you got to stick out the ride until you see the chance to experience the fun here.

I have every faith in the site remaining a great community to come to. But, yeah, it’s going to have its bad patches...all families do. I’m never going to be the person to inject some flirting into the site, but I know flirting will live on. Last time I checked it was incurable! We have men and women here, so nothing is missing...climb over whatever hurdles you think there are...and enjoy!

It would be good to put out some positive vibes folks, I hope this thread can be used positively!

But, we all have our strengths and our weaknesses, and it's sometimes difficult to grant grace when we see someone struggle in areas where we are strong, and conversely, to have our weaknesses exposed by those who excel in that arena.

You probably came back in a "low" of the overall happiness cycle of the site. Hang in there, and time will prove whether your concerns are valid. You can't hide truth.

And BTW, did you call yourself old? Dork. 46 is FAR from old my friend. Us 46 yr olds are the PRIME cut of this wonderful slab of meat!

Wow....that statement is pretty condemning of some real fun and real positive people at this site. Perhaps it's those kind of statements that create this perceived negativity around here. :sc

I'm not quite sure who the "drama" crowd is....but I would say anyone who posts in here for any length of time and holds some pretty sincere and strong opinions either gets rubbed or manages to rub someone the wrong way...it's life and it happens. Just like others have mentioned..we are responsible for our own happiness here and if this place is a source of stress or unhappiness then it's just not the place to be then..move on and find something more to your liking...not speaking specifically to you Xan on that...that's more a general outlook statement is all...just like all radio stations are not for everyone..each of us has to find the one or ones that we like and connect with. Nothing in this world is one size fits all.

As far as the "hijacking" of any threads......my contention is that it's not the threads or the topics that make this place, it's the people. What drives this place and makes it fun and entertaining is the way people interact back and forth and make fun out of the mundane. I feel like this place would end up being very dry and boring if we all followed a protocol of answering a question listed and then moving on in order to keep everything neat and tidy. You can't have a party without spilling a few drinks and tipping over a few chairs.

I think some may have a better time if they stopped looking at their thread being hijacked as some sort of personal affront...this is not a political symposium....just run with it and have fun and jump on. It's not a form of disrespect to a person, it's just people trying to interact and have fun. One can either join in or sit back and let it pass by.

There is a difference between hijacking and being destructive towards another person. The bulk of things that I see are harmless and silly...nothing more.

I can't imagine a time when constructively conveying one's opinion could ever be wrong! It takes much more than anyone else's thoughts to devalue your own!

You mentioned the freedom to speak out here - that certainly does need working on...so, please...don't become perturbed to share your opinion yourself! Just by displaying your openness, you can enable this culture to grow.

It's a challenge for everybody, but I'm convinced if we raised the sincerity here, and dropped some of the camouflage, we'd all share a better understanding of each other.

If it were solely confined to 'flirting only" topics and conversation it would manage to get old after awhile....I understand there are people out there that have an erection 24/7 but I think for most of us at some point you need some other stimulation and variety to keep it such an entertaining place. I think that's proven by the number of people who have been here as long as they have.

Yeah, I've been gone a while and I'm still catching up on some things, including the oft-mentioned negativity and decline in fun here on the site. I have to say that, though I may have been blind to it before, it is indeed evident now. It is not so much that the fun and flirting are gone (though I do think it has waned). Or, maybe I'm just having one of those days. In any case, there are plenty of other places one can go to espouse their unsolicited opinions and judgements. I just did not think this is the site for that (I'll spare you the long list of related quotes and coloquialisms).

Not certain that someone with 200 posts is able to know this site so well but there are still tons of good ppl here and although it's changed from the past, the main change is from those who let their negative thoughts out for all to see as opposed to the past where there were just a few who would do so. Negativity is all over our society and many unhappily married members on a site will obviously be prone to these thoughts.

Some of us are able to ignore certain members whose MO is always the same but others cannot ignore and that's where the craziness starts. It was difficult for me to ignore it my first few months here but it makes me laugh now as I feel sad for everyone when they need to feel wanted and think complaining is the way to be noticed.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, I didn't mean to, but its not the first time I have hijacked. It's tough growing up with those kinds of expectations. Think "Goodfellas," or "The Departed." I am so sorry to hear that you don't have fun here anymore! I know you are loved and that most of us love having you around. I also know that no one can please all the people all the time.

There's still a lot of flirting threads that you can go in. There's plenty of deeper thoughts threads that are there for deeper discussions...I like those too. There seems to be only select ones that get "hijacked". When we've been on a roll & you join in, at least the ones I've been involved, you have been included..We try & include anyone that joins in & respoond to them. Sometimes, if it's a busy one things can get skipped over but that happens to everyone.

I'm sorry you are feeling the way you do. During your tough time you went through I think the entire site came to you side and tried to show that dispite all our little bickering you are a welcome and important contributing member here.

There's lots of different personalities here with lots of different ways people express themselves. You aren't the only one that gets thier feelings hurt--this actually hurts mine a little truth be told. In the past I'd have just fired back and we'd be back to where we were before, but this time I'm just saying it. When you post blanket statements like:

I think it is important for people to realize that not everyone is going to get along. Not everyone is going to like you for one reason or another.That is just life. Tolerance plays a key role in this online community as it does in life.


I think basically what it boils down to is acceptance. Accepting one another for who they are, what they represent and what they believe in, regardless of our opinions. We all contribute something unique to this site.


I am sure that on occasion everyone here may have had their feelings hurt at one time or another. Frankly, I would think it would be quite easy to have your feelings hurt online, as you are not able to get a feel for what one is trying to convey in a post. Simply because we cannot read one's body language or hear one's tone.


We need to realize that there are folks that are more serious when it comes to life and there are folks that are more lighthearted.


But then again I am new here, what do I know? :sg
