certainly, the aspect of over-the-top selfishness works in either case, for the giver or the receiver to pretty much ignore their partner simply for their own pleasure. now there will always be a bit of selfishness involved. nothing wrong with that, but it can't be at the expense of the other. i was speaking of strictly the ideal. in that case, i find that giving is more rewarding. now that being said, i'm not opposed to receiving :)
