If we had unlimited resources...Hank and I would love to have a little weekend cabin in Northern Michigan. We don't want to move away from our kids. Michigan is very nice, the weather is decent, no major destructive storms.

My perfect place would have white sandy beaches, with the clearest warm blue water, a gentle breeze on one side and on the other would vast green meadows with huge snow capped mountains in the back ground, big blue skies and perfect weather.

Not sure if theres any place on this earth where these two heavens exist, but if they do, thats where I would love to live and have the best of both.

I've heard Steamboat Springs is really nice too and I've also heard of Grand Junction. Actually anywhere in Colorado would do me fine! I'm tired of the flat Land of Lincoln! I need some hills to add to my daily walks and some fresh air to breath, the smell of earth in the air, not smog and exhaust fumes! (or my neighbors smoking! yuck!)

I've been living on the ourskirts of Chicago all my life and I'm just getting really tired of it. I'm tired of having my neighbors living so damn close and I'm tired of hearing traffic... heck I'm tired of a whole lot of things about this area! Sometimes the convenience just isn't worth the sacrifices.

Before I had my son, we lived in North Vancouver, which is built on the side of Grouse Mountain. I looked out my window every morning at the clear blue ocean and breathed in the fresh mountain air. I went hiking in the mountains several times a week, and the city boasts the best bike paths in the whole country. I thrived there.

But once I got pregnant, we decided to move back to Ontario to be close to our aging mothers, and the rest of our family. I think we made the right decision, as both grandmothers adore our son, and vice versa, but I would like to move back there one day.

We're planning on moving back some day, but not as long as our moms are alive. It's important that our son have the experience of knowing them, and he has brought so much joy to their lives.

Do you know the cost of real estate in Vancouver?!
As I said, one day, but not yet. I'm not in any hurry, as long as I know it will happen one day. I've learned that there are some things more important then pretty scenery, and that's being with family and friends.
So move back or maybe by rental porperties so you can move in later.

There are some nice tracts of land in the Hill Country to the NW of San Antonio that would be nice to have. Nice hills and some nice streams, the major rivers and creeks are pretty much taken.

Also some nice areas to the S/SE of San Antonio, which would be nice because it doesn't often freeze there and you would be less than an hour of the Gulf.

The Davis Mountains out in West Texas also look interesting. The problem would be the remoteness.

If I were younger, living out in the country would be nice, but as I grow older and with some medical complications, living in town seems to be a bit better.

Oh, man! Only minutes away from anything you want to do! Hiking, skiing (snow and water), hunting, fishing, bike riding of all kinds, hang gliding, or even a simple leasurely drive though the mountains! The orchards to the east in Palisade are fantastic in the spring when the trees are in bloom, and a great place to get you fruit from the late summer into fall! Fruita, to the west, has many cattle and sheep ranches. Learn to ride a horse, go on trail rides, visit some of the olde ghost towns! And much more, these are just a few of the things that I have experienced there!what is so great about grand junction

What we call hills around here you would likely call mountains! I think you would love it here, in whichever town you wanted! The canyons are fantastic! Great for bicycles, and motorcycles! The views will leave you breathless (and not just from the altitude / lack of oxygen)!

You would probably like a suburb like 'Evergreen' in the foothills west of Denver. Above most of the smog and noise of the city, but close enough for all the conveiniences of the city, when needed!
(or my neighbors smoking! yuck!)

I see a nice contemporary log style cabin in the mountains of colorado. It over looks a lake that has a river feeding into it with hidden falls that only I know of. The cabin has a huge wood burning fireplace made of stone. There's the most comfortable sofas facing the fireplace you've ever sat or laid in. The wall with the fireplace also has lots of glass to see the lake from the sofas..The deck of the great room is perfect for tanning those parts that don't see much sun during the winter......

this would be a good start........along with some of the hot women that frequent this website visiting the cabin.........

Actually I'm pretty happy with where I am right now. The scenery is gorgeous, especially in the western half of the state, and the people here are great. The winters might be tougher than they were in Illinois, but you know, I don't care. It's a little price to pay to get to live in a great state. Wouldn't change a thing. Sure living off the coast might be nice, but I'll take the woods and mountains any day.

I would move to Colorado, somewhere in the mountians, perhaps Boulder or Aspen.

Aspen is so infested with the super-rich that they drove housing out of sight...I understand they had to build public housing for professionals to live there, like doctors and lawyers....a little too rarified for my blood. Still the country is beautiful.

Boulder, almost as bad, about a quarter of the people there are trustfunders.
Still I think I could handle it. ;)

I'd like to be living back on the west coast where the air is dry and clean. The humidity and smog here are killers for asthma sufferers.

Hey Jazzy I have a tricky question for you if you think you can handle it..

Why is it in poorer countries with much higher levels of polution, don't suffer from asthma related problems anywhere near as much as western countries do?

Interesting question Cotties. Perhaps we live inside too much and breath artificial air with things that collect in the ventillation systems. The poor people tend to live without that as much.

I am no expert on this, but you are making me think late at night. That could be dangerous.

Oddly enough, because our immune systems have been weakened by our environment. Especially in North America, we live sqeaky clean lives and aren't exposed to the same number of viruses and pollutants as in other parts of the country. We are a society that bathes in antibacterial lotion, cleaners and disinfectants, antibiotics and processed food, air, and drinking water. It has had the opposite effect, by compromising our own natural ability to combat illness.Hey Jazzy I have a tricky question for you if you think you can handle it..

First -- I'm not Jazzy - I got nicer legs!!!

But, i did have a question for you -- could it be that the same level and quantity of asthma related problems exists, but there is less diagnosis of it due to substandard health care systems?? I recall, during my time in Thailand, a lot of seriously heavy cigarette smokers hacking and coughing -- and nobody thought it was anything that should be checked out.

Honestly, I can do that!! I have a thread on here called "Body by Jazzy". You can ask me anything and I'll help with whatever I can. My only stipulation is that you must read the first post in the thread before posting on it. Just to cover my butt.
Now, if you need private instruction, I'll be needing a plane ticket...;)

I"m going to have to see those legs for myself honey, before you can make that sort of claim! Perferably straddling me with your face hovering over mine while you...

oh, right! asthma! Whoa! I got a little sidetracked!
You were referring to smoking related respiratory problems and Cotties was asking about environmentally induced asthma. There is a marked difference in the percentage of asthma sufferers outside of North America.

Is antibacterial lotion better known as soap in most less fortunate countries.

Hygiene has always been a higher priority in most asian nations. They have medicare for all here too.. Believe it or not a friend of mine in Australia recently studied the medicare system in Thailand as part of his nursing course. I wonder if Spare is partialy right[about the leg issue]. But what I seem to find is...mmmm....[thinking:sc ] its like the word stress in western english speaking societies. Its something that never use to occur many years ago but now people use it as an excuse. They have a little boy who is a bit on the wimpy side.. He says mommy I don't like this blanket, mommy runs around for him for half an hour, changes the blanket and shakes it down, comes back over and tucks him in. She says ...he's perfect there must be something wrong with him...I'll take him to the doctors....the doctor says this is just a practise but you can take this harmless inhailer and give it to him next time he "complains".... mommy says thanks and thinks she has a cure to her problem...

It's a type of sanitizer. You can find it on counters in the banks, libraries, toy stores, and in the purse or diaper bag of most North American mothers. It was originally created for medical settings and is still found in every entrance to every hospital I've been in.

Yes, there is a tendency to over medicate here, but there is also a higher raet of respiratory problems as well, especially pneumonia and bronchitis.
