Hi Jen,
You will love it. Just take it a step at a time and learn to relax. They will take you step by step through all the gear. The biggest thing to do is place your face in the water and breath. For the first couple of minutes I usually have to tell myself to relax and that I can trust the air will keep coming.
Relax and enjoy. It is the closest thing to flying I have ever experienced.

Thanks for the advice. Were leaving in about 1/2 hour. Going out to Cape Cod for a couple of days. Looking forward to it. I enjoy all other water sports, so Im pretty sure Ill feel the same about scuba diving. I think My hubby's more nervous than me, though he'd never admit it. Thanks Again Playful, and see you on the boards! Jennifer ( Shhhhhh ):wa:

I saw a porn site devoyed to under water virgins... I couldn't believe people under the ocean were having sex...no really...very strange
I've done alot of snorkeling but I won't ever try scuba diving. I'm afraid of depths (no idea if there's a name for that) so the idea of going any deeper than about 12 or 14 feet scares the daylights out of me!
I do love the idea of seeing all the beautiful ocean life in the reefs and swimming along side fish, but I'll settle for watching them on National Geographic.

Scuba diving is incredible - it is like trespassing in a world that you just don't belong... it is exciting and scary at the same time. It is an experience that is unbelievable and I would recommend it highly - just as long as you do it right, you get your certifications and you go on an instructed trip and stay with your buddy...
It is one of the most awesome things that you can ever do... trust me...
Oh, I believe you, Suzie, and if you knew my lifestyle, you'd be surprised that I hadn't tried it yet. I have some HUGE fears to overcome before I get there though.
There's even scuba lessons offered at my gym, but the idea of even diving to the bottom of the pool makes me break out in a sweat, and I teach in that pool almost everyday!
Yes, it's the idea of visiting another world that is so exciting. Stealing a peek at a place one can never live, just visit so briefly.
Thanks for your feedback!

It's a whole other world, if you're fortunate enough to dive a living reef, it's an experience you won't forget. As a novice, I'd suggest staying above 30 feet, light for viewing is better there anyway. No need to worry about how long you stay down or decompression at that depth and a quick release of your weight belt and other heavy equipment in case of emergency and it's a short swim to the surface.

The deepest that I have gone is only 60' down - we dove a wreck - we went into the boat and saw what was growing inside... even 60' is quite intense as you really need to equalize your ears and it can really strain you if you are not able to equalize right away.
Jazzy - try it in the pool... I promise you - it will be worth the experience, especially for someone like you who probably have lungs that can go a long time without taking a breath - you would use a tank sparingly and be able to dive deep down for a long time...

You are soooo right...We've gone several places in the Caribbean, and it really is like being an alien in a world you can only visit...the colors are astounding...we've seen manta rays...angel fish...barracuda...sharks...done wreck diving...unbelievable...

I would love to scuba dive atleast once.
Not wanting to sound like flipping GI Jane, but Hubby and I went Diving in the Red Sea this year, it was exquisite. First experience of the Red Sea and definitely not our last! An of abundance of fish and coral in such unimaginable and vivid colours. 'Finding Nemo' didn't come close!! My daughter did her 'Bubbles' and my son his 'Padi Seal' course, he was able to join us for the shallower dives and my daughter we snorkeled with, which to be honest was just as wonderful. :55
Dont breath the water, LOL

I realize it is too late to give advice for the original dive, but for the next time you dive. It works better if you are upside while having sex any deeper than 30'. By upside down I mean with your head towards the bottom of the ocean or lake and your feet pointing to the heavens. Not that I have personal experience with this, but my best friend and dive buddy has tried it a few times. This is really his advice.
