What was the last book you read? Did you like it? Would you recommend it?

I just finished the Five language of Love…found it interesting and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it…I just wish I my wife would read it.:(

Actually the last book I read was Harry Potter, "The Half Blood Prince". (and I have read all the earlier HP books a couple of times)

But I have read about 30 books this year, most of them History (WWII or American West). But I read some of Katherine Kurtz books, generally rereading them and thinking about some of the historical fiction British naval books.

The last book I read was "Everyday Law" by Aviva Golden as I was on the search for some advice, for those who need to know the law here in the UK I recommend it.

I started and finished "Zombie" by Joyce Carol Oates this week. I've read it before, but was in the mood for someting dark and disturbing. I would recommend it with the caveat that it is dark and disturbing. Its told from the perspective of a psychotic who abducts other men and...well, just read the book...

A Salty Piece of Land - by Jimmy Buffett. I usually like his stuff, but this one was a definite exception. It felt like he had four or five ok short stories, that he tried desperately to figure out how to tie them together. The attempt was at best clumsy.

All Corvettes are red...what can I say, I like em!:D

I liked it and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in the design history of the C5 Corvette...actually the design history of all Corvettes.

For all you people who are reading the new Harry Potter book: to publicly state who dies is an unforgivable sin for which long slow torture is not only justified, it is richly deserved.

I was in a crowded airport terminal in Dallas recently. Me and ant least 200 people were in the boarding line and in the nearby areas when this asshole on a cellphone asked his wife who died, then said out loud "They killed off [So and so]? you're kidding!"

It was Texas -- I'm pretty sure that we could have had him executed. We should have!

I have 22 books at the moment which are all half read....and having a difficult finishing them.. currently my bedside book is called, " Bridge of Courage" by Jennifer Harbury about Guatemala....and, one really funny...."The Evolution Man"...by Roy Lewis...all about monkeys who are going through evolution at a very rapid pace.

Haven't gotten to the juicy parts yet though that talk about the way that males FLIRT with females.

Oh I liked that one, Annie.
My tastes are all over the map, but as I used to work in the book industry, I like to stay up to date with any books nominated for prizes. You need to find some way to whittle down the selection.
a couple of my all-time faves are "What the Body Remembers" by Shauna Singh Baldwin and "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving

I have a mix of books, I love to read history, (military, American, European, and so on). I also like some of the historical fiction like the Hornblower and the O'Neil (like Master and Commander) and the Cadfeal mysteries and so on. I have well over 1,000 books in the house and grew up in a house with about that many including a lot of rare books and I have read all of them. (and yes, I have read all of the Harry Potter books too).

Books are one of my addictions! I like a mix also, everything from history (mostly Roman & Greek) to romance and mystery. I love horror stories. We have about 8 large bookcases in my living room and they are all full, and I think I have read most of our books at least twice! ;)
(And Wy, I have all the Harry Potter books too!)

With our daughter I was too protective and thought I needed to butt in....with our son I was more relaxed and let him know if he wanted us to respect him and his choices he needed to respect us. We got along very well, he never did anything really bad....Don't know how old your son is but...we told our kids we did not want them to lie...if they told the truth they would not get in trouble. If they needed a ride home we would come and get them as long as they did not lie. Seemed to work well...our daughter is kind of a slacker at 25, she quit college, stays out too late and has too many tattoos, but she is alive and working. Our son at 20 is sailing through life successfully like he knows what he doing.

Reader's Digest told the story of a lady of 5 kids who talked about over-protectiveness. Said that when her first child coughed, she called an ambulance, but when the last swallowed a dime, she told him it was coming out of his allowance!!!!

We have all had those small problems....they sure don't seem small at the time. Just love him no matter what and he will be great.

Some in our family were concerned that I loved my boy too much....He is the nicest, kindest 20 year old ( if I do say so myself ). He has been responsible, working hard making his own way. He moved out at 17 in with his girlfriend and they just got married in March and he is a very good provider and husband. Already has a permanent full time job with a major company and they are looking for a house. Thankfully they are holding off on having kids for a while. He feels very comfortable expressing his feelings, and he makes sure to call me and say hi often. I love that he can sit next to me and hug me where ever we are and not be embarrassed.

So did read many parenting books? Or trust your instincts? Or ask friends or relatives for advice?

My husband Hank is a gentle soul....I'm sure alot of him rubbed off on our son...I also read a book titled " Raising A Son". Gave it away a while ago so don't know who wrote it. I think raising our kids with a Christian foundation helped to instill kindness & compassion. Not saying its for everyone, but it was good for us.

This is not some type of French tickler ( see Banned Devices section), but a mean-spirited man. By Adding "with easr" the speaker makes it clear the prick in question is a metaphorical prick, not the desireable kind.

prick with wheels
This is the British term for a prick with ears.

hatband
In parts of Texas the foreskin is called a hatband.
(The Texas Dixie-based Dixie Chicks call it an aardvark*)

chowder hound
A woman who swallows after the succesful conclusion of a blow job.

boot broke
On dude ranches, a boot-broke goat is trained to drop its back legs into the novice wrangler's Tony Lama boots. This prevents premature separation and allows for mobility when it's time to hit the trail.

A man using euphemisms is said to talk like a man with a paper asshole. He is cautious, timid, and indecisive. A man's who'd sooner implode than fart in church.

Need to Know[SIZE=3]

schmuck
chinga tu madre
cunt smoke

FUBAR
Fucked up byon all recognition. Prounceable, thus an acronym.

McFuck
From the world of no-frills fast food we get the name for a no-frills fast fuck, also caleld a quickie. In Great Britian, where the McFuck is done standing up, it's called a knee trembler.
In the United States the position is shunned by Southern Baptists, becasue it could lead to dancing.

WET BEAVER. Yes, indeed...why don't we make everything electronic? I can just see twenty years down the line with no books any longer....

I see a society based on the film, "Fahrenheit 541" (with Oscar Werner and Julie Andrews), and a society where firemen don't put out fires but burn books while poor wretched souls are walking around in forest reciting "War and Peace" from generation to generation.

Not everything should be on the Internet. Would you like to be on the Internet, WB?

Right now I'm reading "Luck" by Joan Barfoot, which was short-listed for the Giller Prize. She also lives here in London. I've read all her books; they tend to be a bit dark, but presented with dry humour. A nice combination.

I don't read enough but the last thing I read was "Surviving the Killing Fields" the only thing it had in common was the Cambodian actor in the movie wrote the book. A story about a doctor who one day was operating in the city and was told to march to a rice paddy and farm for 6 years while watching everyone die around him. You wanna know intense and real. Anyone who went to uni was tortured andd murdered. If you married someone who went to uni you were called a cia agent and tortured. Anyone caught eating insects to keep themselves norrished were taken away. Holy moly its intense. I've been to Cambodia a few to many times so it felt so wierd when I read it.

Just finished reading "Angels & Demons" and "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown.

Both were entertaining reads, but pedestrian plots. His action theme was predictable in both, though the details were somewhat of a surprise. The historical issues, events, etc. that he brought out (biblical and church history), however, were very intriguing and piqued my curiosity. Going to be looking into that part of it.

I would recommend both if you are looking for a book to entertain you.

No juicy parts, either - drats!

I'm a fan of Nelson Demille. He's a retired Vietnam Vet that becama an author, and a damn good one at that. He just came out with Wild Fire, which I just go in the mail so I haven't read it yet but from what I have heard, it is anothe top notch novel. He has alot of others that are good, The Generals Daughter, the Gold Coast, Plum Island, Up Country, Night Fall, Word Of Honor, to mane a few. I also am a James patterson and John Grisham fan. they each have alot of books, which I have readl most of them and all have been good.

: Gates of Fire: An Epic Novel of the Battle of Thermopylae
... intrigued by the lore of Sparta, author Steven Pressfield has brilliantly ... and blood we see burning and wallowing in death upon the fields of Thermopile. ...[I pulled that after running a search] I did enjoy it..

The Killing Fields....a very good read as it was close to home when I read it...a story about a Doctor who was sent to the Khamar Rhouge' work camps and survived..just

Right now I am ready what I call a "switch off book" the kind I need to read to wind down before sleeping - it's "The Devil wears Prada" have seen the film and would normally try to read the book first, but did this the other way round. It's great so far, humouress, acerbic and a 'fun' book.

The last great book I read was "The Memoirs of Cleopatra" by Margaret George. I have a real interest in ancient Egypt, and although this book was written as fiction it was based on historic facts. The book painted a vivid picture of Cleopatra as a young child, as she grew into the powerful Queen she became, as a loving Mistress and Wife and as a mother, right up until her death at her own hands. The book really drew me into her life and I learnt so much more about this decadent and turbulent time...would definately recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading about ancient Egypt.

The DaVinci Code is a very old plot that speculative writers have played with for at least the past hundred years. The very first novel I ever read about that subject was The White Brotherhood by Marie Corelli which was writtein in the 1920's. I have done some research over the years and so far as I can discover it is all fanciful stuff.

I really enjoyed Angels & Demons, more from an historical, religious and architecutual viewpoint than from the plotline alone.

Think it would have cheapened the weight of the story to have 'juicy' bits, and really who wants to see Tom Hanks getting hot and heavy???!!!!

No juicy parts at all. This is a book about meditation and spirituality. But, unlike most books of this type which are from the loftiest point of view looking down on us mere mortals, this book is from the point of view of a regular person with no pretentions.

your not dumb....if it wasnt for comic books growing up ,i probably wouldnt know how to read...i have over a 1000 from my childhood in the closet..

my favorite authors are from the horror section...koontz,king,saul...but not the gory ones..more the suspense ones ...the thing about king and koontz is they write a good story and are good at developing characters...

I just finished the Wedding from Nichlos Sparks, this book carries on the story of Noah and Allie from the Notebook through their children's lives. all of his books are a fast read, but to be honest, if you have not read any of his books the only two i would really recommend is the Notebook and Message in a bottle....though both have been made into movies, i yet to find a film that compares with your mind's imagination. Currently i am reading The Last Voyage Of Columbus, by Martin Dugard.
