I got those one year, but they were sown together. Nicky was born in September of that year and still had colic at Christmas. I used to lay him across the slippers and for some reason it was about the only thing that would soothe him to sleep! Yeah it was a really stupid gift, but when I figured that out... damn! Those slippers were priceless!!

I'm guessing you got three options:

1) Accept it, and let it go.

2) Remember it, and bear a grudge forever, or at least until it come bubbling up and explodes like a volcano.

3) Instead of whining and complaining, sit down with him and explain in an intelligent, and adult (one of you has to be) manner, that it hurt you deeply, and you just can't let it go.

Oh wait -- there's a fourth one (usually the most popular).

4) No Present - No Nookie!

You sure you tried #3 --you said you whined and complained -- we know that ain't gonna work. But, did you sit him down and tell him exactly what you were thinking, in a calm and rational tone?

George was sweet this year... He got me a lot of little things instead of one or two big things.

Some of you may think this is dumb - he gave me a day planner and some mechanical pencils. But let me tell you, these were two of the most thoughtful gifts. He thought about what color I might want the planner, the little details of the pencils that I like... Being a math major, I can never have too many pencils and I love mechanical ones. So yeah, not the grandest gift ever given. It's not gold or shiny or expensive. But it was thought about... and I loved it!

Ok this is kinda dumb, I got a pair of shoes one year from my mom. When I opened the box there was only one shoe in the box. She had picked up the display box. My other shoe was in the mall on the wall.

They totally forgot to get me anything that year, when everyone was opening their gift, I had nothing to open....I can say that was the worst xmas, I've ever had in my life....I ran out the run crying......

Missy - that's very inconsiderate of your brother and his family!! Geez, at least from my brother I got several different styles and sizes of extension cords! My wife's brother gave me a gift certificate to Home Depot! Now that took a lot of thought.

I have told my relatives that I would prefer that they NOT buy me anything, but rather come to my house and enjoy dinner and a bottle of wine so we can get to know each other better or invite my wife and me out. No one has taken us up on this.

Bah - humbug
