Ok some of us are going thru it right now..Male and Female. Have you ever done something crazy to make your spouse wonder wtf? Also did you realize the highest divorce rates happen usually when a woman turns 40? 40's are tuff yrs on a marriage. So what have you done or how have you tried to survive it?
Me: Thinking of divorce seriously
got a new tattoo on my neck..always said I'd have them hidden.
My teens were coloring their hair colors and I went along and got mine red with the underneath black...looks like flames behind..cool. Husband was like wtf??
Decided I hated my house so redoing it...going to be how I would be happy.

I'm new, but I'd say that my husband would definitely say WTF if he found out I was here!
I'm also not 40, but if this is how I'm feeling now, God only knows what I'll be feeling at 40.
Oh, and my husbands latest WTF moment was when I started selling sex toys for fun.

I think that what happens at mid life really isn't a crisis as much as it is a realization that life doesn't go on forever. Once you come to that realization, you begin to examine the decisions you've made, and the reasons behind them ....
When you're young, you are more likely to make decisions based upon ignorance, fear, stupidity, or any combination of the above. When you get to this point in your life, you realize that life is truly a "do or die" situation, where the only guarantee is that you die someday.
Given that shift in understanding, and the wisdom and courage that age brings, most people want to "grab the brass" ring at least once or twice. So they go after the things that they think might satisfy them .. and they start to become less tolerant of the "status quo".
Like I said, I don't think that is a crisis .. as much as it is part of the evolutionary process we go through as we move through our lives and head towards the end.

Have you ever seen the movie "Goodbye Columbus" with Richard Benjaman and Ali McGraw. I think it is based upon a Philip Roth novel, but I always thought the tag line for the movie was very appropriate ...
The tag line was:
"Every father's daughter is a virgin ...."
I think this is true, even after she's married and has had children.

Cotties- Personally or how many do I carry in stock? Big difference there. ;-) And yeah, my husbands weird that way. Fun...WTF?
Northernvam - Yeah, shocker to me when I found out I was married to the only man on earth that didn't want his wife connected in some way shape or form to sex toys! *lol* Okay, maybe not the only man, but certainly none that I've ever met.
Why am I here? Hell if I know. There's gotta be something missing, or I'd be downstairs with him, not here...right?
Cherokee- An employment agency? *LOL* That would be awesome. However, I doubt I would have got the job. Didn't have much experience in the sex toy area before I started selling them. I got involved after hosting a sex toy party of my very own. It's through a company called Slumber Parties. Got a web site and everything. Whooohooo...so exciting. I'm actually in the process of *going out of business*. Decided it wasn't worth the shame I was causing my husband. :D

I really don't know what exactly his issue is with it. He was definitely curious about the "inventory" and at first, he was all on board with it. I think it took on a life of it's own though, away from him, and that might have been what spooked him. Not sure.
And yes, at one point the word "shame" came into play, but other times he attempted to tell me he supported me, but didn't want my name around town, and I wasn't allowed to tell any of his friends, mention it at functions, tell his family, etc.... Pretty obvious how he felt!

Hmmmm ... that's interesting. Sounds like he's conflicted about being open about sex .. at least from the standpoint of selling sex toys.
I would be careful about assuming about what other people are feeling from their outward behavior. I've often found that when people behave like you've described, they truly have some type of inner conflict that they are unable to resolve, and so they appear to be inconsistent.
I used to believe that people were deliberate when they were being inconsistent, but now I think most people who behave inconsistently are just conflicted, and may not even be aware of it. It sounds like he was all for your business until it became something more public ....
At that point, he feelings probably shifted internally (something he can't control), and he changed without really processing what he was feeling.

Well ... it looked like it was a fun business. I looked at the convention video and said .. gee ... wouldn't it be fun to be at a convention that was mostly women who enjoyed selling sex toys?
Hmmm ... perhaps that could be my new definition of "heaven" ... think about it? Lots of women ... away from home .. all stocked with sex toys ....
Throw a little alcohol into the mix ... and who knows what could happen? Think of what the hospitality suites must be like ....

Hmm. Interesting. I would be careful about assuming my husband is *deep*. This is a man who thinks reading a book is a waste of time. :D
However, if I were to give you a true analysis of my husbands psyche and why this might have disturbed him, it would probably be because of his deep rooted Catholic beliefs and his inability to remove his ass from the back side of a nuns paddle.

Yes you did. Well ... if that's the case, all you really need to do is go to a costume shop, get a nun's habit along with the paddle, and tell him that he's going to hell for not supporting his wife in her business ....
If he does get off on being dominated by a nun ... what better win/win situation?
And dare I ask why you married someone who thought reading a book was a waste of time? Given the way that you made that statement, I imagine you could see trouble ahead on that one.

I respect my husband on many different levels. I respect him for his core values the most. Having said that, I wouldn't call him an intellect, or rather, he is not *book smart*.

Like I said, I don't think that is a crisis .. as much as it is part of the evolutionary process we go through as we move through our lives and head towards the end.
.
All above is so very true....honestly this is the year I have decided I will be making some changes. My husband said wtf on the hair, then decided he likes it. Rough one? Already got one. Husband is 3rd generation biker. So he doesn't flip out too much. The house is starting to look nice , and I just called Ross Medical to apply to go to school. Been out almost 25yrs.

Not old enough for a mid-life crisis just on a mid-marriage crisis...:whee:
I hear you. Not at mid-life crisis stage, but at "Do I spend the rest of my life with her" stage?
I did have a "quarter life crisis" if that counts?

That is a good point, I have only been here three days myself. I may have to adjust my schedule just a bit. Let me know when you plan to leave and I schedule those thoughts. Thanks.

Sounds like you decided that there were things than you wanted to do with your life, and decided that it's now or never.
You get to that point where you realize ... hey, this is the only life I'm going to get (unless you're Hindu), and you might as well try the things that you always wanted to do.

About it..I have to admit now when I was fresh out of high school and tried college for the first semester I wasn't ready for it. Was a minister's daughter and high school was a private church boarding school so never really had the partying , reg teenage yrs. Now all that is been said and done, relaxing more and not wanting the party house etc...raising my kids which are teens now. Can't do physical labor anymore...always worked in auto assembly plants. Now I am ready to go to school. My house after 7 yrs is finally looking how I have always wanted it....Like I said before 2007 is going to be full of changes and for once going to start looking out for myself.;)

Hey .. I think that's great. I really believe that there is no point in living unless you are doing something that stretches you as a human being, or gives you some sense of purpose and meaning.
Wow .. a minister's daughter who is a biker too ... now that sounds like the makings of "inner conflict" to me .... I wouldn't be surprised if you majored in religious studies when you went back to school ...

No major in religious studies for me...Haven't stepped foot in a church since 1996. Trust me I have my reasons but doesn't mean I don't believe in God. I don't believe you have to go to church to do so. One motto I have always held to is one I was taught.."God only lets you handle what he feels you can handle, if it gets too much ask him for help and he's there" I don't believe you only make it to heaven on your works..but your faith. If you feel you are living a good life and feel secure in God then you are doing good. My home isn't a bible thumping home but am pleased to say I have kids who are teens who do not smoke, drink or do drugs. Very close to my kids and have raised them they can ask me anything. The part right now that is hard I always raised them to be independent. If you fall down get back up and try again. The independence they show makes me feel at times not useful but hey I raised them this way and when they are comfortable having their friends over etc...I have to smile.:D They tell me I am the typical italian mom that loves to have someone to feed and take care of lol

I found over the years women start MLC around 34 and by the time they are in their 40's they have had at least one fling under their belt.
Thinking this is all there is to life cleaning up after kids and taking care of a home (cabin fever) women start to reevaluate their lives at an earlier age.
Also the commercials on TV doesn't by showing younger women etc.
Men normally get hit with a mid life crisis in their late 40,s early 50s as by this stage in life they either "made it" or found out life just passed them by and the stage in life they now are in is it no bright financial future, no stardom zilch its over.
Ever notice the ones who can afford to have a young toy on their arms ?
Not so much that a young girl knows so much about making love but they make nice eye candy when they are taken out.
For actual love making older is better as people are or should be a lot more comfortable with themselves sexually
Mid life crisis makes for a hell of a lover as she goes all out to prove she still has it

That is totally me. Mid life crisis started right when I turned 33, I want an older man that knows how to lay a woman down, make her feel like a woman...ya know what I mean;) Tired of living my life with someone I don't want to live my life with. I don't want to waste anymore time than I already have. I just need access to some lovin' right now and when I say now...I mean NOW!!! :D

I think there actually is sort of an evolution that occurs with a mid life crisis. Again, I hate the term "crisis" because it implies that there is something dramatic or unusual that happens. I think it acutally is just part of the aging process .. or the "cycle of birth, life, and death ...".
We start our lives with a great deal of optimisim about how our lives will turn out. In your late teens and early 20s, you can fantasize about what your life WILL be, because it hasn't happened yet.
By the time you reach your early 30s, you've made many of the major life decisions that determine the trajectory of your life, and you can see where your life is going. All of the sudden, you see that the "options" you had in the teens and 20s are now slipping away, if not gone. By the time you're in your early 30s, you've chosen a spouse, a career, a place to live (along with a 30 year mortgage), and you pretty much have obligations to children (gonna send 'em to college, aren't ya?).
If you think about it, you realize that you've trapped yourself into a set of obligations. Now while you made all those decisions of your own free will, there is still part of you that wants to "option" to start over again. It is that struggle within ourselves that we describe as a mid-life crisis.
As a reaction to this struggle, we often look for something outside of ourselves to cope ... but in th end, you can't run away from yourself. You can change spouses, you can change where you live, you can change what you do, but in the end we are all getting older, one day at a time.
In the end, we only have so much time on this earth, and like it or not, it is divided up into childhood, early adulthood, late adulthood, senior citizen, and then death. Once you've had your chance at one of these stages, you can't turn back the clock ... no matter how hard you try.
So .. carpe diem ..
I think mid-life crises are a time when we stop and evaluate our lives so far and consider how we want the second half of our lives to unfold. Quite often that's when we realize how quickly time is passing and feel a sense of urgency about getting things started.
It's also associated with hormonal fluctuations though, as women enter menopause and men go through andropause.
I haven't felt any symptoms yet, but I wonder, when does it start? Is it different for everyone? Are you, or have you gone through it? I'd appreciate some feedback.

I soo wanna meet him and feel his skin next to mine.. wanna have that freaking affair so bad.. just don't know if my conscious will allow it. Sometimes my body aches for his.. desperately. Wow, I would not cheat. but that's me. try talking to him and see what happens. you never know.
I too have felt my sex drive kick into overdrive the past few years. I've invested in even more toys than ever to take the edge off. MY husband doesn't have the same libido as I do, so it's either fill my toy box or have an affair. For me, I have too much to lose to even consider it.

I suppose a mid-life crisis can hit at anytime...I would think it has more to do with not feeling fulfilled than anything else....
Not everyone has an affair to ease this feeling....but it seems whatever it is...it needs to add a thrill...excitement and be something not done before...

I think the 'crisis' part occurs when one happens to reflect back on their life and wonder what next. This happens I think because of an event of some type. Death of a friend, birth of a grandchild, people retiring from work or the empty nest thing. All home alone and time on your hands. Some people stray looking for the spice in life. Now how they stray is diffeent too. SOme flirt, some go all the way. I just would be sure that in the end, you can be happy with the choices you made in your live.

Mid life crisis, is that what they are calling it? If they have a name for it, does it somehow imply that I am a normal, 41 year old woman? Because none of this feels normal, it is like all of sudden my body, and brain finally connected, took a look at my life, and said, WTF am I doing here!, how did I get to this point? I mean my husband and I, have not had sex for years (over seven, - first my health issues, then him using hookers…yuck, no thanks). Now I cannot stop wondering about it (sex and guys) and wanting to try new things (although just about everything would be new to me).
How and when did it start? Last year I got so tired of being sick, that I started to workout once a week, lost 20 lbs, and let my hair grow longer. I then somehow got the courage to confront my husband about his sexual issues and all the other crap that he has pulled in our over 16 years together and told him that I wanted out.
These days, he is attending all kinds of sexual addictions counseling, trying to be extra nice to me and has pointed out, that he has noticed how much my body has changed and “how sexy” I now look. He’s really hopping that I will change my mind about leaving him but there is no way, its been too long and now I want to get out there and enjoy my mid life crisis without him!
Turning 40 has been a huge learning experience for me!:knuddel:

I think it started for me about a year ago. I was suddenly 35. And I could remember 25 as if it was yesterday. Ten years, poof! gone! There are so many more things I want to do.... and biologically, my libido increased with a fervor as well. The two together spell trouble. At least for me....
