Books: I read a lot, but I would have to say that Nora Roberts is my favorite. I loved the key trilogy.
Movies: The Lord of the Rings (all 3) and The Chronicles of Narnia (all of these just took me to another place - they made me feel that I was IN the movie), The Patriot (I love war movies), Pearl Harbor (great love story and a war movie), Top Gun (Tom Cruise before he got crazy).
TV: Gilmore Girls is my absolute favorite show ever. I also like all the CSI's, but I think NY is my favorite. I've always been a big fan of Gary Sinese. Survivor, Grey's Anatomy, and the new show Men in Trees (a very funny show + Anne Heche - always a plus)
(I think I might watch too much TV lol)
I don't watch television at all, so can't name a favourite show.
Some of my favourite books (there are literally hundreds) are
"What the Body Remembers" by Shauna Singh Baldwin
"A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry
"The Stone Diaries" by Carol Shields
"The Time Traveller's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger
and my all time favourite:
"A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving

Movies:
Philadelphia Story- Cary Grant is a smart ass. You gotta look up to a guy like that. Awesome cast. Also some great one liners. "This is the voice of Doom calling..."
Casablanca- Love, love denied, self-sacrifice, and every time the scene comes on where the French begin singing the Marsailles over the Nazi anthem, I think I stand and sing it just as loud.
The Great Escape- Comeradery, fear, anticipation, secrecy...Wait that sounds like this site!!! :D
Monty Python and the Holy Grail- Movies like this can never be made again. We are too PC. It deserves its place in the pantheon of history!
Books:
The Count of Monte Cristo- OK, so there seems to be a running prison break or escape theme. It is also the greatest tale of revenge ever told, which somehow appeals to me. Outside of Canterbury Tales, Dumas' work was the first broadly published for the common person.
The Dark is Rising- I received this book for my 11th birthday and it is about all of the powerful, magical things that reclusive children like I was wish we could do at that point in our lives. It is still a wonderful series of books that I will pass on to my son.
If you want a great trilogy that spoofs the more serious conspiracy theory books, try the Illuminatus Trilogy. Very funny and a page turner. If you want a real conspiracy book written well, try Foucalt's Pendulum by Umberto Eco.
TV Shows:
Almost anything on the Food Network, especially if it involves Rachel Ray. :whee: Iron Chef is probably my favorite show on that network though.
Mythbusters- God how I wish I grew up to be these two guys!!! My friends and I tried some of the same experiments growing up and I still wonder how we didn't kill ourselves. It is a guilty pleasure to watch.
I don't watch much else on a regular basis unless it is baseball. I just don't have the time.
Oh, almost forgot Activities!!!
Hiking, jogging, baseball, writing stories for Funluvinga (that's a new one), and helping with my son's sports teams.

You are absolutely right, Cher. Sorry I missed it! That's one of my favourites too! That's usually categorized under classics, though, rather than literature.
(sorry, I worked in the book industry too long!)
I was feeling a bit left out because I don't read sci fi, romance or horror, and that's what most members seem to read.
...I'm going to stop now...looking a little too bookish...

There is no such thing as too bookish. I'm sure there are some classics so erotic they would even make you blush. Movies and TV only try to keep pace. The written word is far more powerful.

Football... NFL, CFL, College, any and all.
I like to read Nelson DeMille, James Paterson, John Grisham and Michael Crichton. Nelson DeMille has a new book out that is fantastic, called Wild Fire. For people that have a jones for 9/11, you have to read this book. It is fiction but will really scare the hell out of you and get you thinking. The guy is a tremendous author and very underrated.

I like a nice mixture of both.... I like Grey's Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, and Men in Trees. But I also like Numbers, Criminal Minds, the CSI's, and The Closer. We DVR everything so I can usually just pick what kind of mood I'm in and there's something there for me to watch. LOL

Hey,
The DVR is a great invention, but a very disruptive technology. From what I've read, advertisers are beside themselves, knowing that people with DVRs skip through the commercials. Who knows what this is going to do to free TV?

Does anybody still watch completely free TV? My almost 80 year old grandmother even has basic cable.... I figure I'm paying almost $50 a month to have a variety of programming. If I want to skip through commercials, by golly I'm gonna do it! It's not that I have anything against commercials. I don't. If they can figure out a way to keep me from skipping through them, then more power to them. I'll watch the commercials and I won't even fuss. But it's nice to have the convenience of watching a 1 hour show in 45 minutes....

Point -- I have to agree with you about the Dirty Jobs guy. I loved it when he went to a chicken hatchery ... and he had to check to see if they were male or female chicks. Apparently, you have to squeeze them first, and make them poop before you can check to see which sex they are. He was hilarious when he made the chicks poop by squeezing them.
I love 24 also. Then there is dirty jobs.....He is hilarious:D

The problem is there are just too many commmercials, that I think is why we skip them. A one hour show is only about 44 minutes long I think I read somewhere and 1/2 hour show is 22 minutes. That's way too much...

Thinking about a past favourite, thinking about it, I would probably have to go with Cheers. That was one solid show that I remember watching avidly even when I was a youngster. Of course, there was Rockford Files as well!
ps. Firefly was great too, still working my way through that one too. Really enjoyed the movie and decided to go back and watch the shows.
