We have some strange weather here in Southwestern Ontario. Our winters are bitter cold, often dipping to -32C. Our summers are blistering hot, with most days well over 30C. We hardly have any spring; seem to throw off our winter coats and slip into our flipflops all in the same week.

For the last few years, the summers have been so bad in Texas that Satan preferred sending people here than to Hell. :D


But lately, we've had a very wet start to the summer and have only reached 90 a few times. I hope the trend continues and we keep below 100 until August. The good news is we are starting to lift some of the drought restrictions. :55

We have water restrictions here every summer, and hydro scares because of all the air conditioners working overtime. And air quality warnings because of the pollution and humidity. Anyone with breathing problems is warned to stay inside, and lawnmowers, leaf blowers and such are prohibited on those days.

Last week it was 10 degrees and rainy. To go to work I wore coruroys, a button up shirt, and a sweater on top in addition to my wool coat. Today is the type of day that gets our area in the national news at least once each winter: currently -31F (-35C), with a wind chill of -48F (-44C).

When I was living in Sydney, I saw a newsclip of the local Fargo weatherman on the global broadcast of CNN throwing a glass of water up in the air and the water crystallizing before it hit the ground (I guess people the world over like to watch news about people stupid enough to live where it's just too d@mn cold).

Hard to believe right now, but in 6 months it will be 100+ F above.

That's why we live here in Fargo: we get to experience both too cold and too hot (with a week of flooding we like to call Spring and a beautiful day in September we like to call Fall in between).

It's been storming, raining, windy.....for the last couple of months. We have had some of the worst runs of bad weather in decades here....and it looks as if we won't get a break anytime soon. Not sure what's causing all of this. We have also had a record # of tornadoes and deaths as a result. Rivers are over flood stage and remain there.
