ok.. wil temper thast one a bit.. not against culing over populations... we do that with the roos here, we have to or they starve....
then our friggin do-gooders want to leave em to rot, well no, if they have to be culled then... then they can be used for food, pets , whatever... but this isnt done for fun....

Well that's your opinion man. All the animals I kill I do legally and they are consumed. That's why we are at the top of the food chain.

Tiger, How can you say "this isn't done for fun"? I do it for fun. It is a sport. Do you eat turkey at thanksgiving? How do you think that turkey got to your plate?

yeh that is my opinion, and am not talkin about legalities here....
no , i dont eat turkey at thanks giving...
mate there are still a few elephants, tigers, liond rhinos out there, go get em.. have fun.....
We have a lot of Hunters in Michigan. Back in the early 80's we were so broke for a couple years that's the only meat we had, venison. Of course the guys did enjoy the hunting part.
My Dad hunted Turkey a couple times. I don't remember him getting one. We have an over abundance of Turkeys in Michigan....its not unusual to have a whole flock in our backyard a few times a year.

For Pete's sake....he's not hunting kittys and puppies!
I think he wants responses from the Hunters out there who hunt to feed their families. We all have our personal opinions regarding hunting. Some of us do it, some of us don't. If you eat any kind of meat - someone had to kill it so you could eat it.
It's legal to buy a hunting license. Lets not knock him down for something he obviously enjoys....legal game hunting.

Just curious...if it is a sport...how is the playing field equal?...Are you and the turkey, rabbit, fox, lion, elephant, seal, chicken, duck, etc both armed?
Isn't it more of a power trip? To hunt down and subdue and kill your prey because you can? The adrenaline rush of being a superior being over a helpless animal who is fleeing in terror sure must be exciting.
I realize our food that we buy in the store is gotten much the same way, if not worse....but we somehow justify that because we buy it and eat it. we dont do the actual killing. I suppose if it werent for supermarkets then hunting would be needed for food supplies....but there are supermarkets.
I went to a restaurant once...ordered a seafood combo..well it was good except for the fish...a whole one...eyes and all...had to cover it with lettuce cause it made me feel so guilty.
Went to a restaurant that had lobsters in a tank...wouldnt order it cause couldnt pick one out to eat.
Couldnt eat eggs for a long time cause what they were got stuck in my head and it made me sick to look at them.
Yes, I eat turkey....all types of meat....and fish....but I purchase what has already been killed and I guess that is the difference. I didnt make the choice or the kill myself.
Look I didn't post this to argue about animal rights. I was just curious to know if there were any hunters out there. As to what you were saying about it being equal paying field. Why does it have to be an equal playing field. A tiger eats a newborn baby zebra. Is that an equal playing field? You say you eat meat, but you only eat meat that has been killed already. That animal is killed because people like you buy it and eat it. Ok I'm done, if hunting is wrong then make it illegal. You have your beliefs and I'll have mine.

Its the challenge Tiger, its a sport. You go out into the woods....they hunt the animals, track them etc. We do have some game reserves here in Michigan where the animals are fenced in and easier to shoot than hunting out in the wild. The fellas in my family are all wildgame hunters....they go out into the woods in season and bring home the meat. They are out in the woods, the quiet stalking the animal. Sometimes they get meat, sometimes they don't.
A sport no different than another...you have a goal....you play for the result.

Lots of states have hunting clubs. Most are privately owned I think. They fence in 100's /1000's of acres and only members can hunt there.
Whatever floats their boat. :sg

Went turkey hunting once..when I lived in PA. Alas...never saw a turkey...never had a gun. But was nice sitting at the bar that afternoon laughing about the one that got away. Think the only reason I was invited was because I had lots of camouflage clothing.

I do see people hunting for fun, and I wouldn't agree with that if they didn't eat what they were hunting for.... Thank god MOST hunters have a respect for animals. With that being said...

I have hunted for turkey, they are very tricky. the one thing you have in your favor if the fact they can't smell. But if your no good at staying still then you might as well give up.... I didn't enjoy hunting for turkey at all, plus The one I got years ago was all dark meat (and I had to pluck the bugger!) Is that common with wild turkeys to have dark meat? Anyway, I think I'll stick to buying my turkey...Pre-gutted, pre-plucked yummy butterball turkey!!!

Yes the meat isn't as good as the ones you buy that are harvested for food. I'm learning the patience is key to this sport. I think that calling is important also. When I make a call I think it might sound like a hen getting raped!

We are right in the middle of Turkey season here, 12 new hunters every 3 days arriving here through May 13th. I am a hunters widow right now, hubby always with the hunters. I had luck today though, shot a big gobbler, frying up wild turkey breast for supper.... Keep trying, nothing better than wild turkey.....:)

Hmm...I see this thread has touched on a few nerves. I may as well stir the pot a bit.
When it comes to hunting, I'm a diehard fence-sitter. I don't have the stomach to hunt let alone skin and prepare the meat (geez, I can feel the bile rising in my throat just thinking about it) but I do fish, and yes, I clean, filet and cook everything I catch. I figure if you're going to hunt or fish, you'd better do the dirty work too; not chicken out and get someone else to do it. That's a copout.
I love eating meat, fish and poultry, but don't like to think about where it came from. (see? that queasy tummy again!) I know that's hypocritical, but aren't most of us? I wonder how many of us would still eat meat if we took a tour of a slaughterhouse. It's easier to just think of meat in nice packages at the store rather than as harmless animals with pretty eyes (yes, cows do have pretty eyes)
I'd like to be more responsible about my shopping, but I'm not. It's cheaper to buy the regular meat rather than the free range. I'd like to go back to being a vegan but I can't. I was for 8 years, but I like eating animals and animal products too much, and I really do feel humans need animal protein to maintain optimum health; especially athletes. I'd like to help out my friend when he brings us venison. I'd like to say I contributed to preparing it instead of just digging in and blocking thoughts of Bambi, but I can't.
I like to think all hunters do so responsibly, but I know some of them probably don't, but I don't care enough to do anything about it.
I know people hunt, and I know they enjoy it, but I don't want to think about it.
I do want to be invited for dinner though...

You did most of the hunting when we were in the cave. You just had a bad habit of stopping off at other guys' houses on the way home.
I've decided to forgive you...... You can cum for dinner on..... well, whenever you like. :kk

I turkey hunt and Deer hunt and go after wild hogs, nothing better then watching wild life its not the kill thats the thrill, its being out there watching lisoning and waiting for the pray. for 20 years I was a meat hunter we lived off everything I killed now I just get out there to hunt and only shoot 1 deer a year and 2 turkeys if I can. Hunting is not for everyone but many do enjoy the sport. if its with in the law I dont see anything wrong with it.

I love deer camp.... have not been in many years but it was always a good time. For me the hunting is not about the shooting Bambi for crissakes... there is a certain primal satisfaction that comes from providing meat for the table... to hunt and provide... there is also a very basic need in many to return to nature, and often the only time many can do it is hunting season.
For those that do not hunt by choice, good for you! stick to your beliefs.... for those that do... good hunting. remember that we all live on this planet together, and so we all need to respect the others beliefs, even more so if we don't agree with them, because it may be the only voice raised to defend them, and when their beliefs are taken away... well who knows who's will be next.....
