I have decided that I am going to take a stand against what I call, "forced collecting."
Forced collecting happens when you make the mistake of telling a family member that you like something. In the past I have said, "I like antiquities." I don't know, maybe for you it's something like, uh, Ladybugs. For the rest of your life, you become the 'ladybug' person, and you get all sorts of 'ladybug' presents from everyone you know. Ladybug mugs, mirrors, pictures, magnets, sweaters, notepaper, stuffed pillows, garden figures, tshirts, ornaments, stickers, posters, candle holders, paintings, figurines, wrapping paper, signs with stupid sayings on them and every other thing with a ladybug slapped on it.

Instead of my family and friends figuring out what I would REALLY like, they take the easy way out and just keep buying more damned "old" things.

And hey, while I'm on this - hey mom, dad, wife, kids, sisters, friends and associates - there is a HUGE difference between ANTIQUITIES and "antiques." Say like, 1000 years difference.

This is really damaging me, emotionally, and oddly enough, I thought it would feel better than it did to finally get this out in the open.
