I definately agree completely. In order to get to that point, you have to allow yourself to love. It is a huge risk, one that can be very scary at times. But when the person you let in wants so much to make you happy, all the other feelings come along for the ride.

Look it up... I challenge you to define it, the dictionary definition of love is just plain wrong. Love is not an emotion on the level of happiness, sadness, anger, disappointment, etc. well is it? Nah, I say Love is a DOING word. It requires choices. Hard choices, sometimes. It's about sacrifice. It's about faithfulness. It requires commitment. It sometimes hurts and at times it doesn't feel so good.

Unfortunately, a lot of people aren't willing to just DO the loving actions if they don't FEEL the loving emotions and tingles. That's why so many marriages fall apart. The tingles come and go, come and go.......I have to just keep choosing to do loving, attentive, sweet things for my husband, and continue to let him know that he is the most important man in the entire world to me----especially when I don't feel like it!!!

Thankfully, most of the time, the warm emotions are there too.

I believe what you feel in love has a lot to do with your upbringing. I myself was brought up in a house full of violence and abuse. I was beaten for grins when the drunk came home, had my dog thrown in the river and watched him float away, all by my father, the man whom is suppose to teach you the way of the world.

Because of that for 30+ years no one could penetrate my defenses. Since you are not raised with love you have nothing to quantify the word with. You adapt to the enviroment and in my case it was one of keeping thoughts and emotions in check.

When you're raised in a small town in the midwest, everybody knew what was happening but no one interjected themself to help. You go to church and hear about love, all types, and then you go home so then you equate violence to love (sic isn't it).
Because you hear how love begins at home......

I agree with Jenny. I think there is a difference between being "in love" and "loving" someone. Being "in love" is an emotional thing, usually a high, and frequently very passionate. It ebbs and flows, and usually fades after a period of time. Loving someone is a choice of the will; we love someone even when they aren't very loveable at the moment. As Jenny said, it often involves sacrifice, commitment, and sometimes hurt -- and sometimes it doesn't feel so good.

Too often in today's instant gratification and soap opera society, we have confused being "in love" with "loving" someone; and then when we are no longer "in love", we think everything's over and don't even try to keep the relationship going. We start looking for the next source of emotional high.

What is great is when you can manage to find that someone whom you can love, and be in love with for the long term... I haven't found that yet, but I know someone who did, so I hope...

But the one I found closest to the answer I believe in.. is......

" Love is unconditional.... if you love someone.. then love them... dont expect a return....."

You know I have to kind of disagree with that. Only because at one point in my life I thought that I loved someone and I thought she felt the same way. But eventually it turned out that she didn't love me as much as I thought she did. And now in hind-sight I think that kind of love is kind of a blind love that takes control of you but once you realize it was only one-sided you know that it shouldn't have been. At the time it sure felt like the real deal, and I think you always have that bit of love for the person no matter what, but you should strive to find the relationship where you get back as much love as you give. I know what you are saying that you shouldn't expect it in return, but if you're in an exclusive type relationship I think that maybe you should.

I love my wife. More often than I like I find I am annoyed or angry with her over one thing or another. However most of the time I am just comfortable or happy simply because she is in the same vicinity as me. Often I'll have an attack of the snugglies where I suddenly get an overwhelming desire to cuddle & hug her, or squeeze and fondle her sexily, sometimes to her great annoyance because she is in the middle of something (like talking to her mom or a client on the phone) & I don't restrain myself till she's done.

But when I really notice how much I love her is when she has to go away for an extended period of time. She can be away all day & it wont be a problem, I'll hardly know she's gone. But if I know she is going & she will be away for several days or longer then I become acutely aware of her absence almost from the moment she leaves. I feel a profound yearning & ache in my chest & stomach & find myself thinking about her often to distraction. This came as a big surprise to me as I had not experienced this during the first few years of our marriage. In my case, my love grew with the passage of time & what I thought was love when I was younger was merely a shadow of the much bigger entity to follow.

For me, thats how my love feels.
