or should they wait till they have the 150 post hurdle behind them?

Sure they can view but should have to reach 150posts to get an avatar!

They should have to wait.
As the site becomes more well known, more "troublemakers" are around.
Keep it at 150 posts before they can see them.

yeah as someone below a 150 posts I can see how it would put off the random plundering types.

I think the avatars are good for newbies to see what we are all about...I think not allowing them would make the site look less interesting....visually anywayor should they wait till they have the 150 post hurdle behind them?

I think we should let them see....were all supposed to be keeping them to a minimum anyway right?? So whats the harm???

I thnk they should have to wait...... it would just give them one o more thing to look forward to. 150 post isnt the easiest thing to do.
Get rid of the deadweight that are here just to find a piece of ass.

I say let them see them but dont let them have one until the hit 150.
I'm new here and I think it's a good idea to have to have the 150 posts....it's a good way to screen out a lot of weirdo's and lurkers who don't really contribute...I don't mind, I'll make it to 150 one of these days....

I don't think they should have to wait to see the avatars. It may be a good idea not to allow them an avatar until they reach a certain post. Or give them a few to choose from and they must use those until they reach a certain post.

However, on the flip side, avatars are something that we share with our friends - the other members of this family. With the other members, we feel comfortable sharing -- we don't feel constrained to limit our self-expression by the fact that there might be some lunatic (I was gonna say pervert, but we have several of those -- IN the family!) thinking that showing a boob or a butt shot gives them carte blanche to make lewd and lascivious suggestions and demands.
If I wanted the whole world to know, I would rent a freakin' billboard.

You can make it 100, but there still should be still a posting amount. That will keep serious comming back, and it only takes a little while to get 100-150.
good god of course they can... there are far more titillating things to look at on the Internet if they felt so inclined...

Now on the lurker part of the deal...isnt there a way we can get rid of them if they dont post after say a week of signing up???? I mean that should be enough time to get up enough balls to say hello!!!!

I guess the only thing that would concern me was if I had my real picture as my avatar and I do not. You do not even have to be a member to read some of the threads and look at avatars. Perverts or lurkers could easily save your avatar to their computer and if it's really you in the avatar.. would that bother you?

They can "save" my ass to their computers to their hearts content georgia, but I would never ever put my face on here...

I think they should have to post a minimum of 150 before they can look at the pictures. They should have to contribute something before they get rewarded for being a member here.

Earning privilages is not bad but making it too difficult is not good either. I know I am not all that old around here but some people are limited in what they can do based on how much they have to hide

I think they should be able to see but not post an avatar. this will keep them interested enough to keep going. Perfect amount of tease
we brought up having a tiered system before ...which i thought was a good idea ...150 posts really doesnt take that long, not more than a few days ...it does keep the lurkers away ...

Awh, don't make us feel like outcasts! But in all honesty, it's not that hard to get 150 posts on here within a reasonable amount of time with all the quality posts on here to reply to.
Shiane

150 posts doesn't sound like a lot, but not everyone can sit down for an entire day and make that amount in a couple of days. If you think about it, the avatars are not the reason that people stay here. They stay because hopefully they feel welcome and are encouraged to post their thoughts and such. Being able to see other member's avatars is an incentive for them to make the 150 posts so that they too can enjoy the ability to put up avatars that reflect their own personality.
As far as the lurkers, I'm really not sure why they do it. For those of us who have been here for eons it doesn't seem like a big deal to post. But, we do get some people who just aren't comfortable and won't just jump right in and start posting. This place does take some getting used to. I've been to chat rooms that do not welcome new people and it is tough. If you are new, no one will talk to you and maybe some people think this place is like that.
You don't have to look far to find perverts, and unless you police them and toss them out you will always have them around. If they are ignored they will eventually lose interest and leave because they figure out this place is more your average cyber me silly sex site.
So let them see the avatars, but keep the 150 post requirement.

I really don't think we can ever control lurkers and perverts and I also don't see them as a problem at the site whatsoever. So what I think we are really looking at is.....should we make newbies wait a while as an encentive to post more.
so two things really happen as cause and affect. One is the site isn't as visually appealing hence removing the eye candy to new comers and perhaps slightly lowering new memberships. Two those that do the time are rewarded with being able to see how we like to portray ourselves in avatars and also recieving the privilge themselves.

I suggested it because there are probably a few people that would like to use their real pics but feel wierd because anyone can see them, not just members
