Someone made a post earlier, saying they played an instument. This peaked my interest! I would like to know, how many musicians we have here? And what instrument(s) do you play?

Used to be --- now an amateur.
Played accordion in a C&W band when I was 7 (my mom was the lead singer) - moved on to keyboard and guitar --
Now, I just sit home and play with my organ (seriously!) It's one of those electronic organs.

OK as for me, I played the Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, and Sousaphone (same thing as a Tuba, just looks different). I used to be quite good with the trumpet and tuba! not so good with the trombone. The Tuba and Sousaphone were my favorites though!:D

Cool, Spare! I was a 'wanna be'. Mine was in my H.S. band. Always loved the ovations we got during and after a performance!
An accordion? You must have been quite accomplished! Had some friends years ago that played them. It was kinda funny, when they were just starting, they sounded like they were squeezing cats in the basement! :lmao But as we got older, their perfomance improved alot! They became quite masterful with their instument! It is a great privilege to meet and to hear someone with some real talent! Myself not included. Used to be --- now an amateur.

I too hate to admit started with the accordion. Won several state competitions by the time I was 10. But gave it up for sports. Now play the piano from time to time but my son is the accomplished musian now. Has played several paying gigs at at the young age of 14. And the girls like the musicains... He has his pick of them.

PiperBear I always wanted to know how one could blow into those tubes and produce a noise like that... now what happens when you use your own pipes to blow into? Do you have the throaty music or do they whistle? I mean the length of the tubes make the musci different, right?
Please explain.

Sorry....that I took so long to respond. I have been playing for 14 years and so far nobody has complained yet. I have played for too many funerals, played for weddings and many parties.
It is not that hard to play the instrument, it takes about as long as any other to master, some people have a different opinion on this. I wish that I could give an audio bite of my music, but I don't have a copy on my computer and if I did I wouldn't know how to put it on here. If you would like some pics of me I have a yahoo account with the same user name. I will be more than happy to send you as many as you like. If, however, you would like some naughty ones I can do those in person.:lmao

PIPERBEAR. That sounds absolutely fascinating. Should we have a reunion this summer with everyone here, you would be ready to play for us all?
Check with Penny for the details. SMILE.
And don't worry about the time...this Forum has no time elements here. There are members who live on so many time differences that we usually forget if people are waking up (morning) or going to bed....(evening). In addition, people have their lives so they are absolutely free to post when they want.

I play piano, guitar and vocal. Mainly the guitar, I do play in a band. Rock, classic rock. Working on cover tunes right now. We just really started about 5 months ago. Still need a bass player. But, it is fun and who knows where it my lead to. To play in clubs really need to know about 100 songs. We are at about 65 now. Getting there. Once we get the website up will post the URl.

Hey thanks princess! I really enjoy it. Now my wife is not supportive about it. But, oh well. It's something I want to do. My 11 yr old son is my biggest fan. And to me that's what really matters. The best thing your bf can do is practice finger exercises on the fret board. That will build speed and dexterity really quick. Plus, there is a ton of good sites on the internet that he can download tab to learn how to play songs. Tell him to keep jamming, he will get there. To bad he is in Alabama. He could sit in and jam with us.

Principesa Italiana: I played your flute? Now this might be an interesting thing....as you are a woman and I cannot see playing your flute unlees I make holes in your arms or legs...
I probably would prefer stroking....your legs instead of playing your flute.
I was in a band for years, and then in an orchestra. Loved it.

Used to be --- now an amateur.
Played accordion in a C&W band when I was 7 (my mom was the lead singer) - moved on to keyboard and guitar --
Now, I just sit home and play with my organ (seriously!) It's one of those electronic organs.
My sister and I took accordian lessons and organ lessons when we were around that age too! I played Clarinet in junior high, and attempted guitar too. Right now, I'd love to get into keyboards, and I'd love to learn to play a Dulcimer someday-I think they are beautiful.

I played violin and drums (although not at the same time) throughout school and having a Mum who was in a 60's folk band and a guitar playing Dad meant there was always music in our house growing up.

I played guitar in my 20s but never really enjoyed it. I only bought one because I couldn't afford a piano. I now have a piano and play it every day. I so enjoy it, even though I'm just learning.
I've sung professionally since I was 17. I sing all day, every day. I can't not sing. If I'm not singing or humming or something, my son will ask me if I'm ok.

Must admit that you have many strings on your arc.

I have been singing since I could talk - I had a voice scholarship to college (the first time around - right out of high school). I love to sing, hum, whistle, you name it. It calms me... I love testing my range just to see how high or how low I can go. It's fun for me. I also play the piano just a little bit - nothing fancy at all. Just enough to play at church really. I've always been a lover of music of all kinds.

I'm a guitarist, songwriter, recording enthusiest I guess you would say. I've been playing since I was a teenager and I play in a local band here in PA.
Music is my passion and I have pretty much a full recording studio in my home. I record for some of the other local bands in this area. Mostly high school kids right now who are friends of my kids. It's been good practice and I'm getting better. Would love to do it professionally someday, but there's not alot of money in it right now.

Cool! I do that the first Sunday of every month at a local Ukranian club here. There's a jazz band that plays all afternoon and anyone can sit in. It gets pretty wild. Some really great musicians. Beer, kilbassa, stuffed cabbage and great music!! Doesn't get any better!

Oh, I do plenty with my music, believe me. I play the piano at church, I sing at weddings as well as at church, I sing for my kids (that's my favorite kind of singing, btw), and I sing for my own pleasure - what I want to sing when I want to sing it.
I did NOT enjoy singing the classical music under pressure. Just to sing in front of my voice teacher - didn't mind at all. I loved the music. But to sing for my grade at the end of every semester, I couldn't stand it. And even though I wasn't a performance major (I was a vocal education major), I would have had to do an hour and a half recital my senior year. Talk about too much stress... Music is supposed to be fun, not stressful. I had no problems giving up that formal training - although I would love to sing in a professional choir again, and I did truly love taking voice lessons and learning how to better use my voice.

LOL ... no worries luv ...
Well, I haven't played classical in many years. Mozart was always my favorite in terms of simplicity made difficult by what it's beauty demands. Liszt was always showy and fun. I actually loved Bach for its precision. Beethoven's Patitique (sp) was sooo full of emotion.
So I dunno. Been too long to remember what my fave was. :-)

Now THAT is a deal!! Actually, I never played near enough Chopin. Sad thing about that is that it was said back in the day that if F. Chopin were still alive he would play very much like Bill Evans -- whom I have long idolized.
So, I should study Chopin ... With you.
And of course I'll teach you some "licks!" ;p
