I thought it might be good have a thread to enable us Brits to discuss sports from our side of the pond.
Football, Cricket, Rugby, Boxing you name it lets discuss.
I'm a huge Manchester City fan (I've been a season ticket holder for 19 years only missing 3 home games in that period)
What other team's supporters do we have on here?
I also like American sports my American Football Team is the Oakland Raiders I've not got a clue why but I probably liked their badge when I was a kid. That was when they were the LA Raiders I think.
Baseball also has a passing interest for me but I can't seem to get excited about Basketball, although I did once go to a NY Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.
Anyway if anyone is interested in UK sports this is hopefuly the place to disuss.

Oh...this North American can talk Football (futbol, soccer, etc..), Rugby, etc...watching the Rugby World cup right now and enjoying it. Although Canada didn't fare too well against Wales :(
Also watching the Euro Cup qualifying games...with my Germans doing well (yah, that's right you Englishman, I said Germans) :p Grrrrrr...

LOL yeah I don't realy have a come back to you on the German front seeing as you beat us at Wembley 2-1 a couple of weeks back. :(
Regarding the Rugby world cup, England are playing South Africa tomorrow evening. I only hope the English play better than when we played the USA.
It's always a hard physical game against the Boks and I think that will suit us right down to the ground :nu

Yah, could go either way. I used to date a South African girl, a couple of World Cups ago, that family was nuts when it came to rugby. Damn, I should never have dumped her, her dad had the best bbq's...she wasn't half bad either ;)
Just to show how big rugby is in B.C., the listing of the Canadian team roster:
Forwards:
Rod Snow (St. John's); Jon Thiel (White Rock, B.C.); Mike James (Burnaby, B.C.); Jamie Cudmore (Squamish, B.C.); Colin Yukes (Edmonton); Scott Franklin (Regina); Dan Pletch (Lucan, Ont.); Mike Pletch (Lucan); Pat Riordan (Burnaby, B.C.); Aaron Carpenter (Brantford); Mike Burak (Vancouver); Luke Tait (Barrie); Mike Webb (West Vancouver); Adam Kleeberger (White Rock, B.C.); Sean-Michael Stephen (Oakville); David Biddle (Vancouver)
Backs:
Morgan Williams, captain (Cole Harbour, N.S.); Ed Fairhurst (Victoria); Ryan Smith (Caledon, Ont.); Nathan Hirayama (Richmond, B.C.); Nick Trenkel (North Vancouver); Matt Weingart (Williams Lake, B.C.); Ander Monro (Edinburgh, Scotland); Derek Daypuck (London, Ont.); David Spicer (Victoria); Craig Culpan (Auckland, N.Z.); James Pritchard (Sydney, Australia); Justin Mensah-Coker (Vancouver); DTH van der Merwe (Regina); Mike Pyke (Victoria).
Buddy of mine, who plays (or sits on the sideline so far) for one of the teams in Wales should have been picked too, but he's still a little young (was playing on the U19 Team Canada).

Well it looks like you have a much bigger knowledge of Rugby than me. I'm more of a football fan really (sorry hate the word s**cer) but I really love the big Rugby Internationals when they are on. Am I correct in thinking that Ice Hockey is the big sport over there? I watched a couple of the Stanley Cup (Is that correct?) games on TV when I was in Florida earlier this year. I think Anaheim was one of the teams but can't remenber the other.

Questions about American soaps or sitcoms get me as well.
We only get the really top US shows over here so anything else is completely unheard of.

Exciting times at our club at the moment.
The new owner Dr. Thaksin seems to be putting his money where his mouth is and backing Sven all the way.
The only worry I have is, what will happen is he is convicted of curruption in his native Thailand?
Will more of his money be frozen and will he be extradited back there to serve a jail sentence.
On the other hand if, as he has claimed all along that he has no case to answer and he proves his innocence, his assets will then be unfrozen.
He will according to reports have nearly 2 billion pounds (4 billion US $) freed up and Sven will be given the opportunity to spend big and compete with the so called big four (Chelsea, Arsenal, Lverpool & Man United).
Regarding the new manager, I have been nothing but impressed by the man. The whole club has a different, more positive vibe to it and long may it continue.
Plus we beat our bitter rivals United :D a couple of weeks back so all is good in the blue three quarters of Manchester at the moment. :)

Thaksin will be alright. His party is banned for 5 years and he is a very popular man in the country so locking him up would make too much trouble in Thailand. As for his money and corruption charges. They will find him guilty as corruption is just a way of politics in Thailand. Legally being able to hold his assets.. I can't really see how they can. His family is very wealthy and it has been passed down from generation to generation. The main factor is he didn't become Prime Minister of Thailand to rip off money. He was chosen because he is a very astute business man.
Good to see them do Man U and I am pleased to see them doing well under Thaksin's ownership. But they do lack Aussies in their team..

Thanks Cotties I hope what you say is correct.
Past Aussies at City Include Danny Tiatto and Danny Allsop, who I believe is banging in the goals down under at a fair rate. I met him at a supporters function when he was at City and he came across as a decent level headed young fella.
We were strongly linked with Mark Bresciano a few weeks ago and nearly signed him before the start of this season. I believe he came over to train with the squad and was ready for the move before the clubs had a disagreement about the fee and the deal fell though. I full expect us to be in for him again once the January Transfer window opens again though.

Adult Tickets range from £28.00 to £36.00 depending on which part of the ground you sit. My season ticket costs around £550.00 and that gets me into all league home games. Cup games are extra.
City beat Villa 1 - 0 yesterday and we are now second in the table just behind Arsenal. :)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The first 40,000 tickets made available for the NFL's game in London were sold in 90 minutes on Wednesday, the league said.
Tickets for the October 28 game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants were made available at first only to fans in Europe.
The game, to be played at London's 90,000-seat newly rebuilt Wembley Stadium, marks the first time the NFL has played a regular season game overseas.
"This is a game for hard-core fans from all over the world," Alistair Kirkwood, managing director of NFL United Kingdom, said in a statement.
"Obviously the predominant number of fans will be from the UK, but there will be large numbers from the U.S. and Europe as well."
The 40,000 tickets in the first batch were made available to fans randomly selected from registered ticket requests. The NFL said more than 500,000 requests were received within three days of the announcement of the game in February.
Ticket sales in the United States to Giants and Dolphins fans were expected to begin within a week, with additional tickets being released in Britain next month.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder has admitted not knowing people speak English in London.
The NFL player might want to check a map to see where he's playing Sunday's prestige game against the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium.
Crowder, who comes from Atlanta in Georgia, may be praised on the field, but confessed geography was not his strong point.
He admitted he did not know until now where London was - or that Londoners spoke English.
"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries," he said.
I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that."
Crowder added: "I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him.
"That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name."

My team Manchester City got hammered 6 - 0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
We were doing so well this season up until then.
I'm not sure if he will ever come over to England to play in the premiership. A lot of these rumours are started by the press to sell papers. I don't think it will happen in the near future anyway.

Hi social or should I call you pump?
Although I am a massive Man City fan, I have always had an admiration for Liverpool Football Club. The is a big rivalry between the Citys of Manchester and Liverpool but most of the unpleasantness is between Man United :nu (spit, cough thats better) and Liverpool.
I always go to Anfield with City play there as I find it is one of the best grounds for atmosphere in the premiership.
I'm looking forward to the 29th of December when your boys visit the City of Manchester Stadium, it should be a good game.

Cheers mate. socal is fine, no worries on that one.
Yeah, Anfield's one of the most difficult places to play due to the supporters. I'm hoping we do well against Besiktas...we need the win and aren't in a good spot w/the Champions League or the Prem.
Yea, I'm pretty aware of the animosity between ManUre and Man City...pretty much like the rowe between the blue noses (Everton) and Liverpool. A couple of me mates live in Manc..in Levenshulme and then just north up in Bury...both are Man City supporters lol.
City didn't look too hot against Sunderland tonight, but hey, a win's a win and they got 3 points in their favor. Was hopin' Elano and Petrov would've netted some goals this evening. I'm surprised they've kept Bianchi on the bench and have Mpenza up front. Sven needs to give the lad a chance. I also see they sent Schmeichel on loan to another team? WTF is goin' on w/that? Thought he was doin' alright there.
You'll have to let me know how it goes on 29 Dec. over at Anfield. That'll be a huge match.
