How surpised were you that Mikie took the pole last week? I certainly was, not that he finished well, but was excited for him none the less.

And since you're picking Jeffy-boy for the championship, should I assume he's one of the drivers you root for?

No I am a HUGE Dale Jr fan - I am so upset with DEI that I cannot even think about it - but I have to be realistic on who I think is going to win at the beginning I thought Stewart had a great shot against Gordon and Johnson but those two are going to make it a two man Survivor series and make sure one of those two win the championship.

I have been watching a lot more since I worked at a racing camp this summer.. I don't have any favorites but my hubby is a Mark Martin fan.. and I just watch for the wrecks... :D no, seriously, I don't currently have a favorite, but if I start working at Lowes, I guess I will be a Jimmy fan then... support the people who support me kind of thing, ya know?

I get to a race every now and then, can be quite a fun day with friends there with you. But watching on tv can be better, you get to see the close ups of all the hot guys and the instant replays of the wrecks and fights!

I agree with it being a great race! I only live a couple hours from the track but had some stuff I needed to get done this weekend but I was very upset when I saw his engine go up in smoke - I knew it was coming though when Burton's went and then Truex's - Jr drives those cars harder than those two so I knew it was going to go :(

Nascar fan here. Harvick is my favorite driver. Got to meet Richard Childress at a benefit dinner a few years ago. Good man. I also work as a tire man on a pit crew at our local stock car track.

I think his attitude has changed and to be honest I do not believe Biffle should have won that race if he ran out of gas on the caution laps how the heck could have he finished if they were at speed?

I do think it's great thing that Jr. will be with the Hendrick Motorsports team. It should be fun to watch next year.

Boy, of all the threads that can create controversy...this is it. Love NASCAR. Always been a Petty Enterprises 43 fan. Now, just have those I don't like...and there are a few of those whiners. Gotta like Dale Jr. However, as much as I like him, my prediction is that Kyle Busch (who I cannot tolerate...sorry) will probably do better than Jr. this season. The only drawback for Kyle is that Joe Gibbs racing is moving to Toyotas, which could be a bit of a transition. But, Toyota is topping out the practice speed charts at Daytona this past week - 194 mph.

I was glad for Kenseth and you guys are right about the race starting time.

Back in the day, it started a little after noon, because Daytona had no lights. And no network wanted to show the race in prime time. But by starting it as late as they do, it's on in the afternoon on the West Coast and end runs into prime time (unless, of course, it gets shortened by rain).

I will have to say, although I'm a fan of his, Dale Jr. didn't exactly cover himself with glory. A little composure goes a long way, you know?

I've actually strapped it on and raced and not remotely PC. Spinning Vickers wasn't what I was talking about. He missed his pit entirely once, sending him to the back of the pack. Then he pulled into the pit outside of his pit box, causing NASCAR to penalize him a lap -- which led to the crash.

Both were cases of not keeping calm and cool under pressure, IMO.

Last week, you could hammer Junior. This week, both he and Mark Martin had valve springs go bad....that was a Hendrick engine issue, not his. When he car was running right, he manged to run it into contention.

It's a long season. I agree that Junior needs to get something done this year, truly contend for a title and win some races...and I think he will.

He has had potential for years. And years. I would love to see him win, but...maybe part of that is because of his dad. However, Hendrick all the way! I am glad Martin took one more chance this year, too.

Hubby is watching Pocono race, and said he thought he had heard that teams can "rent" pit crews at the different tracks, vs. travelling with their own.
