My laptop is a couple years old now and it's seen better days. I have a Dell and I do really like them a lot, but I'm wondering what other people have, how they compare. Is it silly to go Mac when I have been PC forever? How hard is it to switch everything? Is it even compatible with PC applications?
Anyway, any tips would help. Thank you!

I kep telling myself the next laptop will be a Mac. They operate more efficiently, have better battery power (they last longer without a charge; that's a plus in several areas :D). They don't have nearly as many software problems...Windows I swear deliberately builds in problems...
I've worked on both platforms since PCs were made public in the late 1980s, and the Mac consistently wins hands down. The only reason I have a PC Gateway is that they are much cheaper to buy. Were I to switch to Mac right now I'd have to buy all new software (am I off base here? Will Macs run PC software now? Efficiently? I know they'll pick up lots of PC files). BUT I'd have a better machine.
On the PC side I've had both Dell and Gateway laptops. The Dell is now my wife's and the Gateway is hanging on by a thread after two years. It's been in the shop three times for failed hard drives. The Dell was also in the shop several times. Might be harder to find a Mac repair shop, but I don't think they crap out as much as PCs.
Okay heres my view..... I am 29 years old.... and NEVER touched a MAC!!!! By god I've seen a Mac once or twice in my entire life! I'm not going to bash Macs, simply because of lack of knowledge... BUT..... coming from a "younger" member that works with about 600 computers a week...... transferring and uploading files day after day...... I would have to say 90-95% of people own PC's for a reason. Even if they do have more problems.... Can you build a template for an invitation and send it to your friends and family so they can open it on thier PC?
In my thoughts..... Go with a PC, and you get what you pay for.
Heres a link for you....

You should be able to get a good idea of whats out there and prices. If you buy a computer through dell.com you can pretty much build your own computer. Remember what you use your computer for now... What you would like to use it for etc.... If you don't burn DVD's and CD's dont put your money into a "optional" cd/dvd burner.... If you can't see well and your halfway blind.... put your money into a BIGGER screen.... GO with the more memory so your PC doesn't crap out on you in 2 years! Theres lots of options... check them out, build your own computer, it's pretty self explanatory and you shouldn't have a problem doing it. On the Dell site if you add something to your computer... it will total it on the right for you... That way you know your not building a $6000.00 laptop and wasting your time!
Just a few thoughts... Hope it helps.
Any PC should be fine as long as you make sure you get plenty of memory and storage as they are difficult to upgrade. Dell's customer service seems to be in India these days.

Give them a call....and order a new keyboard. They are easy to replace.

Macs really are the best, if you want to spend the extra money for one. I, personally, have never used one but everyone I know that bought one after using Windows based say they are SOOO much better. Then again, I guess you get what you pay for. The one thing that you want to do though is get it with alot of RAM. Get a minimum of 2gb of RAM and you will be ahead of the curve. It's an inexpensive addition for the performance it will give you.

u better cum to Canada sweets ...our dollar is worth more than the american dollar ..plus i got some room in the bed for u to sleep ....
I've built my own and pretty happy with it. It's upgradeable. No software I don't want built in. And it was way cheaper to build than to buy already built. But I would say go with what your comfortable with. I'm a tinkerer.
