With all the talk about the up coming Primaries, how about a look at those men who have held the Office of President of The United States prior to 2008.

Franklin D. Roosevelt - Democrat.

Former Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Former Governor of New York State. Ran as Vice President with Al Smith. First President to be elect to Four (04) terms in Office. First President to serve his term(s) of Office in a wheel chair. Died at Warm Springs Georgia April 1945, he had just been elected to a 4th term.

Harry Truman - Democrat.

Assumed Presidency after the death of Franklin Roosevelt.Chair of Truman Commission During WWII. Served in France In WWI. Gave the order to use the first atom bomb ever dropped in war. "Dewey Defeats Truman." headline got it wrong.

Dwight D. Eisenhower - Republican.

Former Supreme Commander Allied Forces Europe. Graduate of United Military Academy at West Point. Was impressed by the German Autobahn, used it as the modle for the U.S. Interstate Highway system built during his Administration.

John F. Kennedy - Democrat.

First Irish Catholic President of the United States. His speech about sending "A man to the moon and returning safely to the earth." help push the U.S. Manned Space Flight Program. Assassinated in Dallas Texas November 22, 1963.

Lyndon B. Johnson - Democrat.

Former Senate Majority Leader. Defeated Barry Goldwater in 1964. His escalation of the War in South Viet Nam led to his saying he would not accept his Party's Nomination as President in 1968.

Richard M. Nixon - Republican.

Vice-President under Eisenhower. Lost to John Kennedy in 1960. Ran against Edmund G. "Pat" Brown for Governor of California. In accepting defeat he said, "Well, at least you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore." A "Third Rate Burglary." at the Democratic Party Headquarters at the Watergate Condominium Complex led to his being the first President to resign from office.


Gerald R. Ford - Republican.

Became President after Nixon's Resignation. First man ever to be Vice President of the United States as well President of the United States without ever having been elected to either office.

James E. Carter - Democrat.

Graduate of The United States Naval Academy. Negioated Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt. First such peace treaty between Israel and an Arab State.

Ronald W. Regan - Republican.

First Republican President since Dwight D. Eisenhower to serve two (02) full terms in office. Collapse Soviet Union occured during his term of office. Berlin Wall came down as well.

George W. Bush - Republican.

First Director of Central Intelligence Agency to be elected President of the United States. Second Vice President of the United States to be elected President of the United States.

William J. Clinton - Democrat.

First Democrat to be elected to two (02) terms of office since Franklin D. Roosevelt.

George H.W. Bush - Republican.

First President to assume office as a result of a Supreme Court Decision. Second U.S. President to the son of a former U.S. President. First U.S. President to engage in a "War On Terror."

Six (06) were Democrats.

Six (06) were Republican.

One (01) was a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

One (01) served in WWI.

Seven (07) served in WWII.

One (01) served in the Missouri National Guard.

One (01) served in Texas Air National Guard.

One (01) never served.

Six (06) served in the United States Navy.

One (01) was a Naval Aviator.

One (01) was Submarine Officer.

One (01) was a United States Senator when elected President.

Three (03) served in the United States Senate.

Three (03) served in the United State House of Representatives.

Four (04) served as Governor. Arkansas, California, Georgia and New York.

Two (02) died while in office.

Six (06) died after leaving office.

Four (04) are still living.

One (01) is still in office.

Each man brought to the Presidency the best he had.

Each man brought to the Presidency both the good and bad in each of them.

Each man served to the best of his ability.

Each loved his country.

Well...uhmmm...I never said my Premiers are any better ....ummm but I also have not displayed them here...

This was meant to show the men and the office. All I want is for people to read this thread, and with rancor or malice understand that the man and office are not one and the same.

I for one would never want the job.
