"AMERICA has told Britain that it can “kidnap” British citizens if they are wanted for crimes in the United States.
A senior lawyer for the American government has told the Court of Appeal in London that kidnapping foreign citizens is permissible under American law because the US Supreme Court has sanctioned it2.

I think that's where a lot of extradition problems have happened in the recent past. I don't even think Canada will extradite someone (even US nationals) to the US if they are facing the death penalty.
It took a few years for the NatWest 3 to be extradited. I think that's where this incredibly arrogant grandstanding is coming from. Interestingly, it took a long time for the US to ratify the same extradition treaty, so at the time they were seeking extradition of these men, the UK had no way of having people extradited from the US to here.

Well that certainly didn't work out too well for Duane "Dog" Chapman when he picked up Andrew Luster in Mexico!!
... or perhaps it didn't apply because Luster is an American citizen?

When I first saw this headline I thought "Look out, Pebbles, we are taking you home!" (and no, I am not implying you are/were a criminal, although I am sure you have stole more than a few hearts) ;)

Hmmm... I don't suppose it counts as kidnapping if the Brit in question wishes to come here... well, perhaps it does, if her kids are napping on the plane... :D
[hey, a guy can dream, can't he???]

As I live in the 53 states, other wise known as the UK, it just somes up the arrogance of a nation that "kidnaps" three bankers from here but won't hand over cocky airforce pilots who can't tell the difference between a British tank and a truck, and then go onto kill our troops.

Actually, if you read the whole article, what it says is that the matter of procuring a suspect outside the United States can not be used as grounds for an appeal. BY US LAW, if a person were "kidnapped" in another country, that would not affect his culpability in US court.
