View Full Version : Who pissed off Mother Nature?

It seems like this Autumn has been brutally hot. Down here in Dallas, we were in the upper 80s through Wednesday. We finally got a cool front and dropped into the low to mid-70s. I was able to turn off the A/C and open the windows! But it looks to get back into the low 80s by tomorrow. What's up with Mother Nature?
Is everyone else getting an unusually hot Autumn where they are?

BTW, I love Alabama! I get to Gulf Shores every summer. Best beaches on the Gulf Coast from that point on to Destin!

While everyone seems to be enamored with the "thermodynamics of thaumaturgic mammaries" I must say many are not abreast of true origin of this term. It is clearly early 20th Century and emanates from the Mid-Western United States. The term was, in original form ,"Cold as Witches' Tit" which is a town up in the mountains of ( I believe, Montana).:lmao

lol as usual liked the site w.b. an yes surf those beachs were a beauty. but after these storms idk. anymore. and to tell you the truth we don't go to the beach anymore. has anybody else noticed that sharks are moving in closer to land? and the attacks are alot more. i believe its because there hungry because of everything thats been dumped in the ocean. so now their hunting us. 1 more question does anybody else whats at the bottom of the ocean? knowing we can't go to the bottom? i love seafood, but i'm even scared to eat that now.

Hey Mywife. I was in Gulf Shores this summer and they still have a lot of cleanup left to do from Ivan and Dennis. They didn't get hit too hard from Katrina, but it will still take years to get back to normal. Most of the beaches were still closed off. :(
I am glad I didn't see any sharks though.
As for the pollution, I've sworn off shellfish from the Gulf because of it. I won't take any chances. I only eat shellfish from the Atlantic and it has to be fully cooked. Geez, I do miss raw oysters. ;)
I hope things get better and Mother Nature decides to not be so pissed off with us. :nu

Yes!!!! We finally got a decent cold front here!!! I think we are done with the 80s for a while. It should be in the 60s-70s for the rest of the week/month.
Still, I read in the paper today we were about 7 degrees above average for the month of September and about 4 degrees above average for October. That's pretty damn hot considering you count all of the days in the month and compare it to the historical record. I'm just glad it appears to be over for now. I can turn off the A/C and get the heater ready.

The mist rolls in here quite frequently, we are only 4 miles my road from the sea, 1 mile as the crow flies, and we have been getting sharp frosts, however normally our snows dont come until Feb/ March, but this year the forcasters say we are in for the severist winter similar to 1963, even today is cold, so its on with the thermols and plenty of bed action to keep warm at night.;)

One leaves the BORDEAUX region and the Atlantic area and heads into the Continent towards Paris passing through the Chateaux de la Loire country..you see some of the names of the castles.... like Blois, Chenonceaux, Azay le Rideau, Tours, Angers, etc.
From Chartres to 30 km to Paris it is really quite boring...except for all the castles around southwestern Paris like Versailles.
On Xmas, think I will drive through to Paris and on to the Champs Elysées. I will head out northeast towards Reims and up to Ardennes "Mountains" where so many Allied troops fell for just good causes in 1945.

Hi just a thought on the ozone layer and a few other things.
It is considered that the hole in the ozone layer is caused by chloroflourocarbons ie r12 refrigerants etc. however these chemicals came about much later than when the ozone layer hole was discovered, and it was bigger back then than what it is now.
I know people are big polluters, but consider this, we are also part of this planet, not foreign to it, we are made to be here along with other animals, plants etc and we we given brains and the capacity to change things and develop ourselves. I have a gut feeling that the planet has the capacity to shrug off what damage we do, although we possibly walk a tightrope on this.
we are getting environmentally better, but growing world population, negates some of this.
there are a lot of alarmist views on climate change, but when we look back at history, most of what we see today has happened in the past, well before our technological age.
I am not saying that we dont cause damage, or that the climate isnt changing or that i particularly disagree with anyone elses views, my personal jury is still out over this type of stuff.... just some food for thought.
Yikes! I bet!! Right now in southwestern Ontario it's -16C. Good thing I have long underwear!

I think we all need to be careful about mixing apples and oranges here -- the existence of the ozone layer has been known for a long time. There are scientific discussions about it dating back to the early 20s, though they didn't know exactly how to quanitify it. It was discovered by watching its impact on light rays that entered its area.
The hole in the ozone layer, however, wasn't discovered until 1985. This so-called rip has contracted, expanded, and contracted in the 20 years since. However, it's expansions have been larger than the contractions, and has resulted in an overall average gain in size.
Recent studies in Antartica ice have identified that the ozone layer has existed forever -- certainly for the time period covering all human documention. Further, expansions and contractions also appear to be a normal process. There is no way to determine the overall impact -- too little data exists to determine if the existence of humankind is negatively impacting the ozone layer, or if we are having no impact whatsoever.

Spare I'll give you a pat on the back for doing some research.
I heard on the T.V the other day that the Chinese are completing a coal powered plant every five days in order to match their industrial growth. I am no greeny, but I can't see how nature is going to balance this out. I am aware that the average volcano makes the average city smog look like a back yard BBQ. la la la
All I really think is industry has a lot to gain by saying the problem is not real{ours}. The environmentalist have a lot to gain by saying it's bad we need more research. But from a common sense point of view I guess polutants are called this for a negative reason and if they can alter what's going on it's for the better.;)

It is a "bit of a sticky wicket", no doubt. China and other countries are so behind economically that, even if they knew they were doing ecological damage, they have no choice but to go forward in an attempt to advance their country.
Conversely, we do have to worry about the impacts we are having -- sometimes to prevent them, and other times, to learn how to compensate for them. But, you are right -- that many coal plants operating will have a significant effect on a lot of things -- not the least of which is our weather.

To my knowledge, the ozone layer hole was discovered in the early fifties, the the r12 family of refrigerants came into vogue in the late 60's to early 70's to replace ammonia.
We have real problem in oz with greenies (tree huggers etc) where common sense goes out the window, eg there is a forest in Tasmania that is dying, reason???, natural aging, but is not allowed to be logged, why not log it and allow the natural regrowth??.wood is a renewable resource, just use common sense.
Over the ages before we had civilisation, massive areas were burnt out by fires caused by lightning, It all regrows. One of the reasons i have said nature tends to shrug off what we do..as it did before we were here.( It isnt)
Some movements here say our great barrier reef is in great danger, and so is the Murray river (A major river separating NSW, victoria and South Australia. The scientific evidence however says all have never been in better condition (This one i have been close to, and know the salinity of the river is lower now than it was in 1933.)
there is a whole raft of issues and thinks i would like to say, howeverin the intersests of political correctness its best if i dont go there...

Hi again Tiger
Do you regret those greenies cleaning up the Murry?
the forests down in Tasi are over 10000 years old or some shit like that.Parts are dying off, most parts aren't. Maybe Tasi needs to look at ways to stimulate their economy and not look at cheap ways to make a buck for a small percentage of the local land owners and wood chipping companies. Tiger ...may I ask what you do for a living?
Did you think it was clever the way they put a uranium mine in protected areas up in Queensland. I love the way it leaks down river and they say we didn't know that would happen. The geenies new it before it happened... Somebody needs to make the Aussie Govt accountable..
Do you trust little Johnny? I voted for him
To my knowledge, the ozone layer hole was discovered in the early fifties, the the r12 family of refrigerants came into vogue in the late 60's to early 70's to replace ammonia.
The scientific evidence however says all have never been in better condition (This one i have been close to, and know the salinity of the river is lower now than it was in 1933.)
there is a whole raft of issues and thinks i would like to say, howeverin the intersests of political correctness its best if i dont go there...[/QUOTE]

wow a compatriate???
sure mate u can ask me anything, i am an ex fitter and turner, ex mechanical engineer, now write software and babysit 60 odd computers..
nooo dont regret claean ups, anything that helps is good. The tassie forest issue, mm well healthy old forests we should keep, those that are naturally dying we should be able to utilise... to me its common sense stuff, we can grow wood as we do tomatoes, we cant grow coal, oil or metal resources, we can only exploit them, and ulimately this has to end... cant really comment on the uranium issue, dont know enuf about it.
As for Johnny, yeh i voted for him too, but mainly cos the alternative was crap...

Hey Fox make sure you pop into Bangkok on your way down to Australia. My Kiwi mate runs an agency where thai women want to meet whiteguys. Basically he has about 50 on his books now and we have no men. These ladies are paying him money to meet guys. Some want a date,a fuck, some romance and some want your money. But mainly they want to try a white guy. The last American we had here had 5 girls in 7 days. The girls paid my mate to fuck his friend. Amazing Thailand!

Yeah lots of fires here, the smell of smoke lingers everywhere. Driving to work I went through several areas of thick smoke. The hospital smelled of smoke and that was because of the air intake. Sooo windy and so dry, its just terrible here last I had heard some 250,000 acres had burned here in Oklahoma. Thankfully though nothing close to my house, but several of my co-workers were pretty nervous because fires were very close to thier homes. Some rain would be nice!

We also teACH them that it's good to get drunk and dance when our wives aren't around. What kind of shoppe do you run?

We pay a bit each week, and when our quarterly bill arrives we normally dont have to pay much, if any.

Britain is set to suffer from rain and strong winds this week as Europe is hit by the weather system that brought record-breaking snow storms to New York:nu
The stormy conditions will be experienced by most of the country by Thursday and Friday, bringing heavy showers and blustery conditions.
But he stressed the UK is not expected to see any snowfalls. He said: "We're going to have some strong winds in west-facing areas like Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the West Country and everywhere will get a good soaking.
"It's not going to blow houses down and is pretty much a typical winter storm.
"It won't be particularly cold, but conditions will be changeable and unsettled.
.
You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.
So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)
Written by an Australian Dentist...
To Kill an American
"An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan. "
An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as Native Americans.
An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.
An American is also free to believe in no religion. For th! at he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every oth! er nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!
As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least.
The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America.
Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirst! y tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.
