The supernatural doesnt really scare me but I do believe and I respect by all means. One of the things we do as a department is mow a cemetary down the road from the station. The head stones are from the 1800's so its pretty old. Now Im not one to get all scared but I had to mow late one evening and let me tell you when it got dark it was just a weird feeling to be there.
I do believe when it comes to hauntings and all it would be cool to investigate. Would be entirely intrigued by it and couldnt stay away. Curiosity its a wonderful thing sometimes not so good though!

In our village at the end of the road is our local church, the lane has only 2 lamps, one outside our home and the other about 100 yards from the church on a bend with fields and woods on opposite sides, real scary and there is no light over the church, I think in a position like yours I couldnt mow the grass Id be forever looking over my shoulder, like if I have to go into church I cant walk over the gtaves I have to walk round them, so the supernatural is a weird feeling.

I am a firm believer in ghosts and angel's and the such, especially after my grandmother had died... she died from cancer on Dec. 22nd, and the day after christmas my sister came out of her room crying around 2 am and said that my grandmother had come and visited her in her room, she seen her standing in the corner of her room just staring at her, I believe she visited my sister solely because my sister took care of my grandmother in her last couple of years

I think I have encountered ghosts on about 5 occasions (some of those occasions lasted several weeks). I do know the dog was upset by something that was near his food and water bowl for a while, but eventually he got over it, and it did seem cold there.
I also remember when we sold the newspaper we owned (had been in the family for 51 years and my grandfather had apprenticed there and was selected by the owners to buy it). When we moved the old newspapers out, dating back to 1882, something started walking around in the building, which disturbed the dog (another one) and it would pick things up and move them. But it eventually settled down.
There are some things that can't be explained, and in some cases I am glad.

The supernatrual is very interesting to me. I've been to haunted houses as well as other places of intrest, that people have claimed to be haunted, some are, some aren't. I've actually witnessed a few ghosts myself. I've even got a picture of one taken inside a church where a friend of mine got married, in many of the other pictures that we took that night, many of them have orbs in different places upon the pictures.

yes i do believe. when my parents bought there first house a ghost came with it. my husband and i live in that house and the ghost is still here. he or she likes to play tricks on new people that come in. we warn everybody, but you know no believers. by the time they leave my house they believe. doors opening and closing nobodys around. the dryer slamming shut. nobody in the laundry room fire alarm going off. that kind of stuff. we're used to it and we just say hello and he or she settles down. lol

Is there such things though, I suppose Im scepticial, mywifemark saying things go off, couldnt that be because the home has got warm throughout the day and the creaks when it cools. Its like I made a video called " Norfolk Rivers and villages a never ending story about 5 years ago, and made up a fictious ghost story about a happening in the village of Happisburgh, When the film was edited and sent out I had calls saying there was a ghost on the film, I relooked at the original but couldnt see anything, except that the end of the pews looked hexagnal yet in the church they were round.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your Philosophy" Hamlet
as humans we know very little outside the realm of our reality
I believe...We had a ghost ( a bad ghost ) in our old house, it was built in 1898. We renovated it totally. The ghost would come into the shower when I was there, it was between the two layer of glass that made up the outer walls....I had to see my pastor about it, he prayed and told me what to do to make it go away. I was so glad he did not think I was nuts. It worked, the ghost went away and we have not had any in our homes since.
I saw my husbands brother in our bedroom early Christmas morning in our room, we found out later in the day that he had died that morning from a massive heart attack. We think he came to say goodbye to us.

Good or Bad, Ghost's are just pissed off spirits, that are stuck, between heaven and hell. Most of my encounters have been with those of good natured spirits, often or just to play little tricks for thier own amusment. But there are those out there, that are terrible, mean, bad, what ever you wish to call them. I've seen a couple of those.
When my wife and I first got married we lived in this quaint little 2 bedroom house. She'd have blood currling nightmares, just about every night. Wake up screaming and crying, saying that some one in this house was trying to kill her. She would describe them in a such a way, that whom ever it was, was more or less torturing her, then killer her, slowly. My only incounter with the ghost was a couple of days after we had moved out of the place. I went back, for 1 final clean up, the house was pertty much clean, and nothing happen until I walked into the back bedroom. We had posters up on the wall, so i was going to take them down, as I started to pull the thumb tack from the wall, the other 3 that held the poster in place commensed to pull out as well. I stopped dead in my tracks and watched as the remaining posters fell to the floor as the thumbs were pulled from the wall by an unseen hand.
It didn't take me long to figure out, that the house was clean enough by my standards, and I high tailed it out of there. I jumped in my ride, and took off, with one final look at the house, a grey featureless face appeared in the front window, moving the curtains back, smiling at me.
No one in my family, or wife's family has ever set foot in that place again.

I've had a few other incounters with ghosts, but that one, was by far the worst one.
There was this one time, my cousin and I was at my Grandparents house in northern California. My Grandparents weren't home at the time, so we was just sitting there watching movies. When I had to use the bathroom. So I got up, turned the corner to wall down the hallway, which is like 30 feet long, so there for there's a light switch at each end of the hallway. At the end of the hallway it the bathroom. So I flipped on the switch, and my jaw drops open. I'm kinda in shock I guess, I don't really move, I feel like my legs have cemented to the floor. There standing in the bathroom, I see, a flannel shirt, as if it's on a invisible being, also there's a comb in an invisible hand as if it's combing it's hair, but that's all. Finally I find my voice, I in a half whisper half talking normally, normally as possible, I call out to cousin. After a couple of seconds he decides to come see what I'm jabbering about. He's now standing next to me at the entrance to the hallway, and his jaw hit's the floor. "That's a, ......a, a ghost?!?" he stutter's. At end of his comment, the ghost turns to look at us, dropping the comb in the sink, and the flannel shirt hit's the floor. Then poof, it's gone.
We slept in the living room that night, with all the light's on. That house was kinda freaky any how, always strange stuff going on there. Even from the time when the house was first bought. My Grandparents would tell stories to us lil' one's to keep us close to the house, as it stood all alone out in middle of the forest.

Even though I find it facinating, it scares the hell outta me. I've experienced a lot weird stuff at work, so many people dying. I have a friend whos house is haunted, freaks me out to go there. OOOOOOOOOOOOH shivers and goosebumps, nobody here to hide behind or snuggle with. So like Forrest, thats all i've got to say about that!

Yes, I believe in the spirit world. I know a man that studied reports of ghosts scientifically for several years. He followed up on stories of haunted houses in the Northwest and even went to England to study sightings there. He witnessed lots of doors opening and closing and even filmed a bolt of light that shot across a room in a haunted house. He would interview people who said they saw ghosts. Many times what they reported seeing didn't make any sense to them. However, when he researched some of the stories he often found it began to make sense.
For example, he interviewed 2 separate residents who had lived in one house. Both reported occasionally seeing people dressed in homemade unfamiliar looking clothes that walked right through the house. Sometimes they would see these people huddled around an open fire. The figures paid no attention to the residents of the house, as if they were functioning in a different time. When he researched it he discovered this particular house was built on a popular old Indian trail and he found drawings depicting natives from several hundred years ago wearing clothing similar to what the residents of the house had reported.
Another one was a house in which several different occupants reported seeing a man with an axe. His research discovered the house was a house of prostitution back in the 1880's and one of the women was killed by a man with an axe. I'm not sure, but I think the axe murderer was tried and hung.

I don't believe in ghosts but I do believe in guardian angels.
Has this ever occured to you when , just in nick of time, you are saved from a truck coming your way or you have in the last minutes stepped aside from danger?
Well I believe (and feel) that I have two guardian angels. Protecting me all the time. I feel their presence. They are very friendly and vowing to protect me where ever I go.
I even gave them names.

Yes I believe in ghosts, spirits good and bad. A friend of mine lives in a haunted house, i swear! The house was built around 1850, several family members have died in the house, and haunts the house. One of the ghost is a little boy 6 yrs old, he died on a Halloween night. Fell from the 2nd story stair railing. He isn't malicious, he's more of a prankster. He hides car keys, moves items about the house. Brings antique items like skeleton keys, old toys like wooden jacks and leather balls, old dolls, just things from his time and leaves them on the coffee table in the living room. The house is quite freaky, it sits on several hundred acres of farm land, the family cemetary is there. Frequently old human bones are dug up. There is a man who dresses in 1800 clothing, black suit almost like a quaker would. He is very sallow and serious, doesn't do anything other than watch. Another is the mother of the little boy, a very tall refined Cherokee Indian woman also dressed in period clothing, she too watches and whispers your name. There is also a young black child who resides there, apparently the childs parents were on a slave ship and the 2 children were left behind because they were too young to work. Anyway the 2 children were adopted by the woman and her husband, while the house was being built, the little girl climbed onto the 2nd floor and fell. I have seen pictues of the outside of the house, and in regular pictures you can see people in one pic and then gone in another. The little boy has taken up with the living lady of the house, her husband has been awoken by a voice calling out for momma. He has seen her gown being pulled like someone is trying to wake her, only there is no one there just the ghost of the little boy. The ghost in this house is also very protective of the living occupants. When someone is coming to the house, if the person coming is a friend the tv will go off and there will be knocking at the back door about 20 minutes before the person arrives. If the people coming to the house have ill intentions the tv will go off, there will be knocking at the back door, and every bulb in the crystal chandlier will burst. Yes I know all of this sounds made up but it isn't, there are other stories about the house. I know these people and I swear this stuff really happens. So yes I do believe in ghost, freaks me out, gives me shivers.

It was now Saturday night, my girlfriend made the safe drive to Tombstone and we were all ready to go back to witness more of this unexplainable phenomenon.
Questions I asked as everyone else on the porch sat still...
Who ever you are... please talk to us!
When I ask you these questions, if your answer is "Yes" let us all here a rock thrown upon the porch.
I then ask the following questions...
Are you from the 1900's?... no rock
Are you from the 1880's?...a rock hit the porch
Are you Wyatt Earp?...no rock
Are you Ike Clanton?...no rock
Do you know Ike Clanton?...a rock hit the porch
Are you trying to tell us something?...no rock
Are you just having fun with us?... a rock hit the porch
Are you the lady or little girl that was murdered in this house?...no rock
After this last question things settled down for a few minutes and no rocks were thrown. It was kind of weird almost as if I had touched a nerve or something.
I know this is really hard to believe and you probably think I'll be wearing a white coat and need a psychiatrist soon, but this happened just as I have just described.

Nope, nobody is calling the little men with the white coats yet Dave.
I believe there is more out there then we know about. I say never dismiss something out of hand. I mean everyone has had that feeling of being watched or catching something out of the corner of your eye. It hasn't been proven that ghosts exist yet, but at the same time....it hasn't been disproven either.

So??? What does your palm say? ;)
:sc Well I'm reading your palm not mine. Your palm tells me that you are a man with a strong character and convictions. If you believe in something you will fight for it. It tells me you have a sense of adventure, although you long for adventure you don't stray too far from the things you find security in. It tells me you have a humorous side, you frequently smile and chuckle to yourself. Sometimes your joking around gets you in trouble, what you thought was harmless flirting and joking puts you in a precarious position. You are a very passionate and sensual man, you rarely show anyone this side, you tend to hide it or downplay it for fear of rejection. You are a generous person, you give more than you'll ever get back. You are a good father, your children look up to you they can't wait to spend the day with you. Your have strong religious beliefs, that came from your mother. At the end of a good day your mind drifts off replaying the events, when your mind wanders back you have a cheeky grin on your face. When your driving, you tend to notice the sunset or sunrise more than the car in front of you.
Hows that Barkiss?;)

So you already know I have a friend who lives in a I swear to God a haunted house.
Well the other night he's up in the spare bedroom with his dog when he hears sirens and voices on a loud speaker and some loud crashes coming from down stairs. He is thinking someone has broken in and he lives like 1000 feet from the police station. He stays up stairs because someone is ramsacking his place. A short time later his wife who is a poice officer is yelling at him. He comes down stairs and she is screaming what in the hell happened. He says it must of been the robbers, I heard the crashing and the sirens. She says that was only me, I had the dispatchers kids with me and I let them play with the siren and loud speaker. Nothing was missing from the house, but in a cabinet where he keeps wine. All of the wine was thrown out into the floor, 30 broken bottles everywhere, and the linens on the top of the cabinet was scattered though the house. He says the sirens must have upset one of the ghost that resides there because there was no one else but him in the house and the cabinet was intact, no shelves were broken, nothing.
The other story is about one of the dispatchers kids who just turned 4. not long ago they were at his house and he was out on the back porch and he sees this little boy talking to someone but he can't see who. So later on in the evening he asked the little boy who he was talking to and the little boy who can't talk well replies, "the vampire girl" and she had red bubbles in her mouth. Well he has no idea what the kid is talking about, he has never seen this particular ghost. He didnt think much about it, he's used to weird stuff happening. The little boy is walking through the house and says thats the vampire girl I saw. It was a picture of his neice who was recently killed not far from his house in a car wreck. The pic is of her in a black dress with a wrap and wrap was blowing in the wind. The little boy called her by name and said she had red bubbles in her mouth. The little boy had never met her and had no idea who she was. His neice suffered a broken neck in the wreck, he said she had blood bubbles coming out of her mouth when she died. He and the little boy went out on the porch and said there she is, can't you see her, my friend couldn't see her. He and his niece were very close and her death was very hard on him. The little boy said her name was issica, her name was Jessica. The little boys mother said ever since that day, she hears the little boy talking and playing with Jessica in their house.
This is just one of many strange things that happens at this house, no wonder I get goose bumps when I visit him. I don't know whats out there in this world but I know him and I know he is telling the truth. Too many people have experienced weird stuff at this house. Just goes to show you, even though you can't see it, it doesn't mean something isn't there. :whee: Just gives me the shivers!

I do believe in ghosts. When my best friend committed suicide 5 years ago, his spirit stayed with me. I see him every couple of days or so and he talks to me. My husband and I live in the same house that I lived in when my best friend died. We will find little things moved back to the way that they were when he was alive. We can move it all we want, but Mikey moves it back to the way that he wants it and the way that it was when he was alive

There are 3 other ghosts in his house, he sees 2 of them all the time, the little boy ghost Gabriel he has ony seen his shadow. He isn't sure how many more are there. This last one his niece he has not seen, just the little boy has. The strange thing is that lots of people have seen the ghosts or experienced some of the strange things that happen. But you do make an interesting point, I guess some people are more receptive to that kind of stuff.
They aren't mean or anything they just hang around, making noises, move stuff. They actually protect the house. Gabriel the little boy ghost has sort of adopted this guy and his wife as his parents, he is especially fond of the wife. My friend has woken up hearing a voice calling momma and his wife who is sleeping has something pulling on her gown trying to wake her.
All I know is that I couldn't stay in a house like that.

im not sure about sayings...there r ways to call spirits ...but its very tricky huni and my feeling is ....if u dont sense the spirit let him/her rest. u dont always have to SEE it......u ever walked in a room or had a feeling like something had been moved or someone was watching u....or a cold chill run down yourspine ...the feelings r different for each. ill bet your grandfather watches over u all the time and u arent aware of it....

If our 3rd-dimensional bodies cast a 2nd-dimensional shadow on the ground, can a 4th-dimensional being cast a 3rd-dimensional shadow? Maybe that's what we see as ghosts and angels -- shadows of 4th-dimensional beings.
Time for some deep thoughts... :sc

I often wonder whats out there that we can't see, whether it's ghosts, angels, demons, spirits...... I don't know, I know there is something though.
One of the freakiest things that ever happened to me that absolutely scared the living shit outta me.
Probably 7 years ago I was working day shift at a hospital in Intensive Care. We had an older man come in. He had been diagnosed with cancer and was dying. He was in the unit for probably a week or so, and was totally with it during the first part. His daughter tried so hard to get him to allow the minister to come in and talk to him, she knew he was dying. His response was "I've served the devil all my life and I'm not turning to God now" He simply refused. The man eventually became comatosed and did not respond to anything, just layed barely there clinging to life. He was in room #3, we all swore the room was haunted anyway, lights would come on and off even though they were turned off at the switch. The cardiac monitor which was never turned off, would when no one was in the room show a perfect heart rhythm. Just stuff like this happened.
So anyway one afternoon around 3pm it was just him and me in the room, all quiet the tv was off. I was emptying his foley bag, I was bent over with my back to him, when I heard the most hideous, evil, hair raising laugh. It sent chills through my body and I turned around and he had not changed. I left the room in a hurry and asked the other 2 ladies that I was working with, omg did you guys hear that? They both turned to me and said no, what happened. So I told them and they too were completely freaked out. It was so bad I did not want to go back into the room. We called the minister to come and pray over the room, we put a cross on the door. No one wanted anything to do with him or that room. It was almost as if the devil himself was laughing saying I got this one. He died a few days later. I have no explanation as to what it was and I really don't want to know. All I know is that everytime I think about or retell this story my hair stands on ends and I get cold chills.
So whats out there? I don't know, but I am convinced there is something. Whatever it is I believe there is a good and an evil side.

True . I kinda feel this is are path of lessons that need to be learned and when we die , we start to live.
Maybe John Edwards is a fraud , I see he helps alot of people , wether they were fooled or not , I dont know, I know that if I could talk to my Dad one more time , I would , and I would probably then hear things that I believe was said by Him , because I would want to hear it .So, I can see how he could fool alot of people. Shiane,
That story is more in line with what really goes on around us then you could ever image. The manifestation of evil is as powerful and real as good, the only discerning factor is LOVE, it can determine whether our hearts are vanquished by evil or be saved by the wings of angels. I have been a student of world religions all my life, and each of them I have discovered possesses a firm understanding of good and evil. Many of them understand that evil can present itself in many faces and given the right opportunity it will take hold of the weak and disillusioned. If we are willing to understand it, then perhaps we might be able to combat it. Thank you for sharing that with us.

I for one actually believe in both Ghost and Spirits, My Grandmother-n-law once lived where I do now and she always wore the same perfume. (she used to live in oregon) and the perfume she wore can't be found in any store where I live..I know I have looked...anyway she passed away almost 4 yrs ago and sometimes I can smell her perfume, and it is a strong scent like she is standing right next to me, and it gives me the feeling of peace knowing she is watching over me and my family.

After all a chill in the air, low-light conditions and even magnetic fields may trigger feelings that a presence is in a room - but is that all they are; feelings?" Well yea I thought so ... until...
I used to be a complete cynic regarding ghosts, thinking it was nonsense. Then, while in Nepal, a friend and I stayed in a revolting hovel of a hotel, where, unfortunately, a doctor of some years living a couple of rooms away in the same hotel, died on the stairs. The week after, I encountered his ghost lying on said stairs, yep seriously! I would have assumed that it was a hallucination, except for the fact that my friend was with me at the time and also saw the ghostly figure! We encountered the ghost several times more, before finally moving to a different hotel; the sight was too disturbing. however, as a consequence I'm no longer a cynic, I do believe in ghosts!
However, tooth fairies are a different matter!!

I will say that I believe in ghosts. I will also say that it's all in the mind of the beholder. I know a woman with an 18th century violin and when she plays it I can hear the ghosts of all the other fiddlers that have made that haunted old box sing. But if there are ghosts down through those f holes, it's because I've put them there.
Now, we'll sit back and wait to see how long it takes for someone to riff on 'haunted old box.'
Jen, just what did you see?

Well, Indian Hooch is one hypothesis. Another might be that the person who informed Jen of the Doctor's death was having a spot 'o fun. But it might be that she stepped in and out of time, or that you saw a ghost.
No, no. I believe in ghosts, as I said. You had a ghostly experience, for sure. The question I have is how it got there.
Ah well there begs the question, a doctor of questionable origin indeed, and no one knew much about the poor sod... it was rumoured that he practised unconventional medicine, in fact, they described him as a 'WHO' doctor!

Some day I might relate it...but it was so spooky.... and I dont want to encourage Jen and Cotties to say "I told you so!!" :) :)... Nah I'm not telling...Forget I mentioned it :) :)

I think I do believe in ghosts. Though I have never encountered one for myself, I do believe. I have always wanted to live in a haunted house of some sort.

Musicmer, Penny, et al. who believe in ghosts: could you explain why you believe? Though I have my own way of interpreting ghosts, I wonder how others understand their existence despite the lack of physical evidence.
Thanks for indulging me!

Theoretically I see no reason to believe in them. Even Jewish/Christian theology doesn't have any place for them, since when a body dies, its spirit separates until a day of resurrection. That spirit has no physical form so it cannot be seen.
Regarding evidence, many of the stories told in hotels and tourist traps have been used to create a mystique and attract people to come. Any time money is involved, the credibility of the stories goes down.
But, just as with UFO's, there are those like you Jen that are totally convinced what you saw was a ghost. We have no reason to believe you are not telling the truth, so this doubting Thomas still believes that the possibility exists.

We had one in an old house we lived in. We had renovated it and had just moved in. At first it was in our bedroom....I would see it standing at the foot of the bed during the night-a dark outline of a man. Thought it was my grandpa coming to check on us....he had helped us work on the house quite a bit and had died a few months before we were finished.
Then I started to see it downstairs during the day, in the dining room....before I would see it the room would get really really cold, I would look up and there it was....the dark outline in what I thought was the shape of a man.
One night my son was in the bath, the door was open....he thought we had company and asked who the man was in the hallway.
It didn't really bother me much to have it there....only showed itself every few months. The last straw was when I was in the shower...It was a corner shower with glass walls and door. I turned to reach the shampoo and there it was....kind of in between the panes of glass that formed the wall of the shower. Scared the shit out of me.....it sure wasn't my grandpa if it was in the shower with me......
The next couple days it showed itself to hubby......and whooshed around the room like it was angry.
I went to see our pastor the next day.....he was so great...didn't make me feel like I was nuts. He did believe it was possible, but explained to me it couldn't be a good spirit. Why would a good spirit want to hang around here....we believe heaven is so much better that our present life. Anyway...He told me next time I saw it I should firmly ask it to leave, drop to my knees and recite every prayer I could think of. I said the lords prayer, the 23rd psalm and even the childrens prayer Now I Lay me down to sleep. What a site I must have been.....good thing it happened at night after the kids were in bed. They would have thought mom lost her mind. :D
It did a big swoop around the room, it got really cold and then it just disappeared. We never saw it again.
I really thought I was going nuts, hadn't told hubby about it till he saw it himself.
As you can see....I believe. In our family one of my aunts could see the future...very rarely did she tell anyone anything....once she did tell my dad to call his cousin in Arkansas, that an accident was going to take her. He called and chatted with her one evening....they were happy, doing well, she had a little boy everyone was good...Dad just said he was thinking about her and thought he would call. A couple days later she fell out of a pecan tree and broke her neck.
Sorry for the long post.....I got long winded.
