I think he is going to Tampa Bay. Are they popular?
The Tampa Bay Rays were in the World Series last year...which is the Super Bowl for baseball over here.....so they should be a popular ticket.
You can try stubhub.com it's like ebay for sports tickets here.....you may have to pay more than face value for the ticket but it's a way to get good seats if you can't get them direct from the teams ticket office. That's where people who have tickets are selling them person to person instead....I've never used that site...but it's VERY popular over here and I know lots of people who use it regularly.

I know shawn but, it's a talent. Not just anyone can hit like that. His swing is amazing, I don't even like the guy but I love to watch him hit.. He is a natural the steroids didn't' make him hit the ball it gave him more power so it would go further. I wonder why he thinks he needs to hit home runs every time he is at the plate.

Yeah...the money is getting SO huge these days everyone feels like they need to get an advantage to get a piece of it. The sad thing is thsoe problems are becoming so rampant in High Schools now...they see the money and the fame and what these guys do.......it's hard to keep them from feeling like they HAVE to do it just to keep up.
If they want to send a real message I think the penalty should be more than 50 games right off the bat..I'd make it a full year at least for the first one. That being said.....with Manny out of the lineup for 50 games, I hope they implode as a result of this, that would be perfect.

I'd like to say I'm surprised about Manny...but I'm not...just like I wasn't surprised about AFraud or anyone else in baseball whose name has been connected to drugs over the last few years...just FYI...50 games is costing him just over 7 million dollars. If you think that doesn't send a message you should think again.
His career total is one thing...but no way does he actually have that much money...7 million is definitely more than pocket change..even to Manny.

"Who??....I don't know that guy...WHO?"
Reporter then gets him to explain further what he means....
Papelbon: "I don't know that guy, he quit on on me and he quit on our team last year so I don't really care about him"
I have an all new respect for THAT guy for having the balls to put that out there!!
Then he basically explained that the league puts out a HUGE list for all the players in spring training about what you can and can't take......so if Manny took something he's essentially a complete Idiot!!

from Deadspin......
While the details of Donnie Moore's fateful pitch and tragic suicide have been somewhat overblown over the years, the fact remains that the Angels still seem to have no idea how to beat the Red Sox in the playoffs since that fateful day in 1986. After having won eight of the nine regular-season games between the teams this year, Los Angeles lost to Boston, 4-1, behind Jason Bay's two-run homer in Wednesday's Game One of the ALDS. That's 10 straight playoff wins for the Red Sox over the Angels, dating to when Boston beat California in extra innings in Game 5 of the '86 ALCS, thanks in part to Dave Henderson's ninth-inning homer off of Moore.

Hey, If Brady Anderson can go from 21 homers to 50 without the use of steroids ***trying to keep straight face here***, why can't Big Bert hit 900 homers and not be suspect...I mean, look at Barry, all he had was an enormous head and bitch tits. That didn't prove anything either.

It's unfortunate that we're at a point that baseball will end up being a battle of chemists....who can develop something that enhances with masking agents faster than they can develop something to detect it. Either way it's sad that I hear my Little Leaguers mentioning it.....they dont' really understand what it means...but they are exposed to it from watching ESPN...just the fact that they are mentioning it is kinda depressing.

Yeah, I used to go to 60-70 games a year as a kid, but now think I should ask for my money back. The gaudy numbers and 250 lb Mr. Atlas shortstops are making this look as farcical as pro wrestling. Hopefully the game will clean up before it stoops to boxing levels.

KANSAS CITY, MO—Players and executives with the 16-11 Royals filed a grievance with MLB officials Tuesday after they could not find themselves anywhere in the league's official standings. "We looked in all the usual places: third place, fourth place, even fifth place, and we didn't see our name anywhere," said Royals GM Dayton Moore, who added that he even peeked at the AL West standings to see if perhaps the team had been moved to a different division. "I could have sworn we'd been playing really well this year. Why would Commissioner Selig try to hide us? Did we do something wrong? Let me see that paper again." Moore explained that he and everyone in the front office were "very curious" to see Kansas City's other baseball team, which is currently in first place.

One interesting note that I don't think alot of people consider and I'm not really sure of the medical validity of it without doing some research on it.....but they interviewed Larry Bowa before the game and asked him about some of that and he said that not only do the steroids and HGH stuff make you stronger and make you bounce back faster as in keeping you fresh and more energized throughout the season but they also give you better vision...which is a distinct advantage in pitch recognition and location. No one ever really talked about that too much...but it is an interesting spin...but again, not sure if that is really a medically proven fact and how much of a difference it would be :sc

I think the way it helps the most is by aiding healing and recovery. It must be grueling for these guys. Their jobs have them on their feet, constantly going from standing around to sprinting or whipping the ball, many hours/day. I am sure I would have many aches and tears at my age if I did that for one night, never mind 200 nights (between spring training and playoffs). I think that's why it was so important for the older guys. Now that its mostly out of the game, notice how few players in their mid-30's can even stay on the field, never mind perform among the best?
Han Solo
05-13-2009, 11:21 AM
Yeah, I agree with that. I just hadn't heard anyone really mention the part about some improved vision so that was sorta intriguing. Ted Williams was one of the greatest hitters of all time and they say his vision was superior to the average player....so if the juice does help with that I'd have to think that's an advantage too.
Basebally players kinda get a rap for it not being a physically demanding game..but I don't think that's a fair assessment...to do what they do for that many consecutive nights takes a toll on your body..not to mention the travel involved. But imagine just running as fast as those guys and then ramming your body into a base on a slide or throwing 100 pitches in a night as hard as you can..that stuff wears you out. It's hard to be mentally and physically sharp that many days in a row so anytime you can bounce back quicker or stay fresher for longer periods it's a definite advantage.
Once they started testing it was no mysters that suddenly Bonds couldn't stay healthy or recover from his injuries or that Sammy Sosa suddenly looked old and couldn't perform anymore or that Mark Mcgwire also couldn't perform anymore and his body broke down. We're not talking about a steady decline for those guys...we're talking about them being All-Star cleanup hitters one year and then totally gone the next. Too much coincidence there.
Brandon301
05-13-2009, 11:37 AM
I agree with you also. Vision is very important, I just don't really believe that it would affect that.
Now that steroids are mostly out, the Yankees are screwed for a while. You can't buy players in their early 20's under the current system. Soon the battle will shift to the draft, which we will all start watching as carefully as in the NFL. And the money will be staggering there soon.
jmsmith12345
05-13-2009, 11:42 AM
I was an athlete in college, and can tell you that the demands on the body...even in your early 20s...are just amazingly harsh. It is not just the game, or the travel, but throw in the weight training, the very strict diet, the late night studying film to get an edge on the other team...it all wears you out. Fast forward to being 38, and I could not imagine the exponential toll it would take on my body. These guys who cheat by taking roids, HGH, or whatever else is out there not only cheat the fans, and themselves, but cheat their teammates is the most egregious way by stealing the roster spot they may not have truly earned...stealing the money they do not deserve, and making everyone look guilty due to their selfish behavior. It is quite sad, but the money must just be that hard to resist.

I recall when the Pads were in the World Series they did a thing on Ken Caminiti and Greg Vaughn and they were doing these eye exercises to help them "train" their eyes to pick up ball rotations faster... looking back I am sure both these guys were juiced (Caminiti later admitted so) . I played some ball but can not say I was ever up against a guy that threw mid 90's, I could not imagine how you coul dhumanly tell the difference between a fastball at that level and a change up.

To a point, hitting is just one of those skills that you have or you don't....you have to make a split second reaction on pitch recognition and the guys who are truly superior are the ones that just have a god given gift. Kinda the same as someone who can throw 100 mph....you either can do it or you can't. Yes, you can take both abilities and work on them and enhance them to a degree and get a few more MPH on your fastball by working on your mechanics and strength etc....but you're not gonna add 20 mph to your fastball by doing that. Same with hitting...at a point you have that special talent or you don't. Wade Boggs was one of the sickest hitters ever....or even go Pads on ya....Tony Gwynn.....neither guy was gifted physically as far as quickness, power, bat speed etc.....but they were machines at the plate and just had that mental gift and that hand eye coordination that took them to another level...the stuff you can't teach people..you just have it.
But you can see how taking some substance can make good players VERY good....the opportunity for fame and fortune is too much of a tease for people to pass up though.

Well done.
I have been travelling to NYC a lot lately, and I am really for the first time appreciating Yankees fans. They know baseball, and it gives us a lot in common. Talking to a Dodgers, Blue Jays, or Rays "fan" is like talking baseball with the 7 year old, its on that level. So now that the Yankees fans have stopped with the "hammer and nail" rivalry analogy crap, I'm kind of over my hatred. And that's big for me.

No sense in hating.
Yankee fans sometimes get a bad rap . . . but it is sometimes deserved.

Thank you Brandon...I was beginning to wonder why no one was commenting on the Boston Red Sox failure to take a series from the "hapless" Angels. Let's see, that's 6 games with the Angels and 4 losses. And yes, I am gloating (for now) since our bullpen would give up runs to most little league teams...sigh! But I'll enjoy the moment.

Nice to see the Cubs winning 10 of their last 12. 6-8 weeks without Ramirez will hurt. Bring on the Fatso's, wait, I mean Astro's. Was thinking of Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman again.

are them red sox and yankees the only major league teams? or are their fans more passionate?
CJSinIL
05-15-2009, 11:30 AM
No, they just like to argue with each other all the time. Can blame it all on Babe Ruth and the famous trade. Or maybe they just don't get along. I'm a Cubs fan, and we have passionate fans.....and are tired of not winning the WS.

so that makes 3 major league teams...I thought for sure there were like 30 of them...hmmm..I must be wrong again
CJSinIL
05-15-2009, 11:59 AM
3 is about right. There used to be 30, but the league had to shrink because they could only let players in who have not used performance enhancing drugs. We were lucky to get three teams.

Huge baseball fan here, grew up around the game played college and some minor league ball as well. I am an Angels fan myself...we are righting the ship of late, getting Lackey and Santana back is huge. Still need Vlad to get healthy.
The irritating thing about 'roids is how baseball seems to be getting singled out - PED's exist in other sports as well we are just newer to the stricter policies game. Now we are punishing those sufficiently, in the past it was not against the rules to use them. Let the policies handle this moving forward. Congress has far too many other things to eff up.

I could really care less about steroids. Yeah, its wrong, they shouldn't be doing it, and its a bad thing for kids to see. But its entertainment, and bigger dudes crushing the ball is entertaining. No one was complaining when McGwire and Sosa went at it. I'm probably in the minority here, but it sort of goes to that don't ask don't tell policy. If they want smaller balls, good for them.

Yeah, the other side of the arguement is, just skip all the fighting back and forth make EVERYTHING legal and just sit back and marvel at how fast and strong everyone is and if it's all for a better show then so be it. Some days I say just let that happen because it would be far less draining on us all to have to listen to it everyday from the media and all the controversy.

I don't know how far back anyone could really trace it...I've seen stuff where even in the early 80's guys were taking amphetamines to boost their energy levels...that was a LONG time ago...I can't really say that woudl be the same as Roids'...but anything your taking to give you a mental advantage..or perceived mental stimulus I would say that counts as taking a drug to enhance your performance.

Han made the point for me on the 80's. Babe Ruth was on massive amounts of alcohol and women, which can be considered drugs. Didn't you ever hear if you get laid the night before a game, that you always played better. I always did.
Drugs have always played a big part. Amphetimines, Darryl Strawberry, Doc Gooden, that one Yankee dude, all were major drug users. More cocaine please!
Besides, in baseball, the phrase is: "if you're not cheating, you're not trying." Pitchers have scuffed balls, vaseline (just some left over from earlier), pine tar, etc. Hitters have corked bats, too much pine tar, etc. So players were looking for an edge. Baseball didn't ban it until 2005. So now if you get caught, your an idiot.
And yeah, baseball isn't the only sport to use them. But we like to see men destroy each other like they do in football. We see bones get broken left and right.
Basketball - If you listen to Josh Howard, they all smoke weed, thats it. And for Gred Oden and LeBron James its medicinal to help their cataracts since they are both in their 60's.
And people thought Brady Anderson just had 50 homerun potential evey year. Blah.

New York 18 - 17: GB 4.5
I just thought it was important to bring Yankee up to speed, and point out that there is NOTHING TO BE JEALOUS OF. That was a 1999 Yankee fan comment, those days are long gone my friend.
