Is that how you spell that? I always thought it was titty not tittie as in:

One tit or One titty ...
Two tits or Two titties ...

Hi, I'd like to know what "obscure" movies people have seen and would recommend to others... Try to avoid "pirates of the carribean" & things like that.

My two are
Billy Elliot &
Betty Blue

The accent thread reminded me about Billy Elliot, a fantastic movie about a young boy that starts ballet dancing during the miners strike of '84 in Newcastle (Englandshire).

Betty blue is a great erotic french movie ( arent' they all!!) that was a dream for me... after you've saw the movie I can explain.

well, let me know what you think, and recommend others.

I've got a few more, so I'll try & not forget them before I put them in

A wonderful little French film called La Doublure, which had Daniel Auteuil and Kristin Scott Thomas (speaking French!) in it.

Billy Elliot was quite enjoyable.

I'd suggest Lost In Translation, but I'm sure everyone has seen that one...you know, about the married guy...flirting and more ;)

I saw Eastern Promises, that was a nice movie that's in theatres now.

The Rocket if you want some hockey history. Great movie about Maurice "The Rocket" Richard.

And don't forget about Thank You For Smoking a delightful movie about a lobbiest (sp?) for the tobacco industry.

I'm also into slightly obscure movies, as some of you here have mentioned:

- Damage
- The Myth of Fingerprints
- Ice Storm
- The Sweet Hereafter
- The Swimming Pool
- The French trilogy Red/White/Blue
- What's eating Gilbert Grape?
- Night on Earth

...oh, there are so very many...

Last night I went to see "Horton Hears a Who" and I laughed. It was real sweet and I knew the story from when I was little but to see it on film was nice. I went later so there were not too many kids. Yes I would like to see it again!!

Well don't know that I would recommend it.....in fact I KNOW that I wouldn't recommend it. But I saw "Blades Of Glory" last night, the skater movie with Will Ferrel and that guy from Napolean Dynamite....mildly amusing, but there was a line in the movie giving credit to Han Solo and Chewbacca with a list of "famous duos"....so I guess I gotta give it a :55 for that

La Vie en Rose

I saw that movie a couple of weeks ago and fell asleep half way through. I could not understand what the heck was going on. All of her lovers had the same name and looked like they could have been brothers. It kept going all over the place in time and I was totally lost! I had to go on line afterwords to figure out what I just watched when I finally did watch the rest. She would be talking to a guy and I was like OK which lover is this, then I figured out that was her manager. So confusing! Then I read about her life and found out some really interesting stuff that they didn't even put in the movie, like the fact that she had a baby with one of those guys that died when he was like 2. I have no idea why they left that out of the movie. Some people love it though. I guess it just depends on what your into.

It's not that new, but Super Size Me is something to watch. For anyone that loves fast food, it is a must see. It is a documentary, basically, but the guy eats McDonalds for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a month and what the effect of that had on him.

Just thought we could help each other avoid some bad movies and maybe point out some great ones. I'll start. I saw 2 movies this weekend so I'll let you know about both. The first one I saw was No Country For Old Men. It was pretty good. I was a little disappointed that it won the oscar for best picture, but it was worth seeing. I won't spoil the ending, but I would have ended it a little differently and I think it could have been a much better movie.

The other movie I saw was Gone Baby Gone. That one was pretty good. I kind of knew how it was going to end, but most people won't be able to figure out and it keeps you guessing. Both of these were definitely worth seeing.

Are we talking new movies? if you want to take your family to see a really cool movie, The Spiderwick Chronicles is really good. The child actor Freddie Highmore (played in Finding Neverland and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory along with Johnny Depp) is an amazing actor. I'm sure both adult and children will enjoy this movie.

I think two movies which I have to mention are "Secondhand Lions" and "Big Fish"...... there are two of my all time favorites.

For the Sci-Fi fans out there: "Sunshine" was one of the best movies I have seen in a while. If you can past some silly plot lines. The scenery and MUSIC was just beautiful. It gets my highest rating::dd:dd:dd:dd:dd

P.S. I Love You is a chick flick. This movie is not for everyone! For me it did not work. For all of it's good intentions "P.S. I Love You" just droned like a wheezing bagpipe! Sorry, but found it very slow moving. Fairly routine story of love, loss, and emotional rebirth. Nothing I would buy for my DVD home collection.

LOL

Hey how was it? I want to see this one so bad... and I totally agree... David Duchovny is HOT.... omg...

And Scoob, why am I not suprised we agree on Mulder?:sc We have VERY similar GOOD taste in men don't we?

So the X-Files Movie----

I LOVED it! But it's not like the first X-Files movie was. It's not about alliens or the smoking man or the black oil. It's done on a much smaller scale. It's more like an x-files episode....quirky, dark, a little pervy, strange, spiritual, spooky and sad. I would say this movie is really for X-Files fans. If you weren't a fan of the show, you probobly aren't going to like the movie, but if you LOVED the show (I never went anywhere on Sunday nights when there was a new episode & I wouldn't answer the phone when it was on) you will be so glad to see Mulder & Scully again. They cover stem cell research, gay marriage, psychic god given powers, child molestations, Catholocism, and organ farming & patient's rights to die. Like I said, a typical X-Files episode. I don't want to give anything away, but Skinner is in it, and there are some great moments. I recommend it.:ok

Just watched Definitely, Maybe (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10007681-definitely_maybe/), which is definitely a chick flick but I really liked it (and yes, I did cry like a girly-boy at the end). Of course, I would probably like any movie that has Isla Fisher in, this movie has a great cast and acting for every role and a pretty good story.

Ohhh me too. I find him to be such an intellectual actor. Californication is an excellent show too. We kinda like those quirky guys though, don't we Ang?:ok
LOL

LOL, yeah quirks are good, I like a little smidgen of kooky loopy in a guy!!!

And Scoob, why am I not suprised we agree on Mulder?:sc We have VERY similar GOOD taste in men don't we?

Tina does have very good taste in men!!!!:ok

Wow, sounds great!!! I have to see this movie!!!! Thanks for the review Sneaky, I LOVED the show as well, I can't believe they don't show re-runs here!!!!

I saw a movie the other day that surprised me. I was on the lookout for major cheeseball factor, but I was surprised to discover how well it was done and I even cried. I thought it was gonna be mostly a comedy, but it was mostly drama. It's called Henry Poole is Here.

Finally got around to watching The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Le scaphandre et le papillon) last night.

I really like this movie!
Wifey HATES sub-titled movies and even she really liked it.
Amazing true-life story (at least more "true-life" than most true-life movies, lol).

Not since "A River Runs Through It", has a movie compelled me to go find the book it was based on, though. Like "River", it quotes a couple of the passages of the book and reveals beautiful prose that is to be savored rather than just read.

He had to dictate his story letter by letter, after much revision and memorization. The result is a story so powerful, it transcends media: book, movie, word of mouth.

VERY powerful!

Yeah, lol, that was just one of many reasons the movie was awful: both the lady and her hubby (played by Benjamin Bratt) looked like young people with gray wigs on. At least Javier actually looked somewhat like the 70-something year old guy he was supposed to be.

As for seniors getting it on, I'm all for it! Hopefully, I'll be one of them one day, lol!

That was one of the many parallel themes/subjects of the novel: that there is a societal "distaste" for octogenarian sexuality.

Passchendaele is a great movie, it has romance, blood and guts, and the first stormtroopers during WW1...that would be the Canadians of course!

I agree that seniors do have a sex life, and I too will probably be one of them, and in the words of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber " Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose.":D

Watched Big Nothing last night, which has a pretty good cast (including Simon Pegg of "Shaun of the Dead" and David Schwimmer of "Friends").

If you go in with low expectations, it's a pretty good rental.
Remember to stick with it, even though the beginning is a bit slow.
It's a quirky, dark comedy that's worth a look.

Martian Child (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0415965/)

Wifey drug me kicking and screaming into watching this tonight, but I have to admit I really liked it.

Best I've seen John Cusack in years and his interplay with his sister was both real and interesting. Would recommend putting it into your Netflix queue with low expectations and be happy when they're surpassed.

Anyone seen 'AUSTRALIA'??

Even if you're not a Nicole Kidman fan I would recommend it. I thought she would drive me insane with her prissy english accent but she did it very well. Of course it's worth watching just to see Hugh, mmmm!
Think you would all really enjoy it.

I took my daughters to see "Marley and Me" yesterday. I had read the book so knew what to expect and the film was pretty true to the book. My youngest daughter is 6 and she got a little bored towards the end, perhaps it was a little grown up for her.
It was very much a weepy (major weepy) omg I thought I was going to have to leave before the end I was crying so much!!!

Two that were "off the radar" for me that, thanks to Netflix, I recently watched/enjoyed were "Charlie Bartlett" and "Bill". Both have a real indie feel to them, with great casts.

Rent with low/no expectations (like I did) and enjoy! ;)

The last movie I went to was at the opening of Knowing, a Nicolas Cage movie. It was amazing, in the theater, everyone got scared at the same time. It was good and you were at the back of your seat during the whole movie. Its a movie that can make you think a little, are we really the only intelligent lifeformes out there??
You go see it!

Finally got talked into watching it last night by Wifey.

Nicole is usually super hot, but she had this cross-eyed thing going on, which was kinda distracting and not very sexy.

I thought the movie was pretty good, but would have been much better if it was at least a 1/2 hour shorter.

Wifey, on the other hand, seemed to REALLY enjoy the Hugh Jackman scenes (she kept muttering "He's hotter than Sawyer!").

Finally got around to watching Grand Torino and loved it!

I always like Clint Eastwood anyway, but the script was sooo well done.

Although the end product is set in Michigan it was written by a guy from St Paul, MN who worked at the Ford plant there; the Twin Cities has either the largest Hmong population any where or the largest population outside of Laos.

The story accurately captures the way a LOT of Minnesota men Clint's age speak, act and think (Wifey said "I can hear your dad saying that exactly that way." quite a few times during the movie and she's right.) and the part of town that has the heaviest Hmong population.

I definitely give this movie two thumbs way up.
