Too much talk about smoking. Why? Because the smoker is being smoked out, you can't to it here, not there. You can buy but not smoke them! I understand, you need that puff, relaxes you, makes you feel in control, I get all that. But has anyone tried just BREATHING fresh clean air?? That answer will have to no! There is not clean around! If smoking continues all will be lost. And that is very sad! Just think the next time you open a pack and light up....
Thanks for listening!:wa:

You know,I was wondering the same thing. Whatever happened to staying out of other people's lives? If I were a smoker, and I'm not, I would tell you that if I choose to smoke, that's my business, and not yours. If I were a smoker, and I'm not, I would recognize that I do not have the right to allow my habit to interfere in your life. But, when I stand outside in the rain and have a cigarette, don't come up and give me a sermon about the damage I'm doing to myself. Frankly, if I were a smoker, and I'm not, I wouldn't give a damn what you thought.
I don't like smoking period. None of my friends smoke because I do not choose to have addicts as friends.
Smokers are destroying their health far more often than not....that is no longer in dispute.
Unfortunately in our country it IS our business. Our publicly funded health system is overburdened. Many smokers are being treated and operated on for emphysema, bronchitis, asthma, lung cancer, and other cancers, heart transplants etc. The specialists in these areas state categorically that over 90% of these conditions are attributable to first or secondhand smoking. Some of these post operative patients can be seen every day sitting outside the hospitals with oxygen tubes up their noses and puffing on cigarettes. Cancer treatment and surgeries are among the most expensive and time consuming for doctors, surgeons, nurses and other hospital workers. We cannot turn sick people away for lack of money as they can in other countries, nor would we ever choose to do so. Would you believe some people in for lung or heart transplants are there for a second time having refused to give up smoking?
Most people in Canada do not smoke...so as funders of the health system...yes it is our business.

I don't like smoking. It stinks, makes everything smell, destroys your lungs, is expensive habit, and it is so unattractive to see a woman with a cigarette hanging out her mouth. Yuck!!

I guess that's the difference between the two countries. We take individual responsibility for our actions.
The taxes collected on cigarettes is approximately 1 1/2 times the impact of cigarettes on the federal contributions to the health care system. The impact of smoking on Medicaid (a state program of which 1/2 is funded with federal dollars) was $12.9 billion (thus a cost to the state of approximately $6.5 billion). However, the state cigarette taxes collected in 2005 was $12.6 billion (a nice profit of $6.1 Billion). During that same year, the federal tax collection was $9.4 Billion (another profit of $2.9 Billion).
By the way, in my research, I ran across an interesting fact -- the government of Scotland estimates that it receives 10.4 million pounds in tax income from the ILLEGAL sales of cigarettes to children under 16.
In addition to the tax boondoggle, smokers pay increased insurance premiums to offset the costs. If I were a smoker, and I'm not, I would wonder why I am being singled out and abused.

Tons of people have quit smoking and they are still getting sick. Maybe in 50 years the results of less people smoking will show in the healthcare system. We are still dealing with a generation of past and present smokers in their 80's and 90's.
Smoking is personal choice thing just like any other bad habit....do I eat too much? Yes I do. Do I know its bad for me? Yes I do. Do I need to exercise more? Yes. Do I do whats good for me? NO.... Its a personal choice, I would rather taste those mashed potatoes and feel them going straight to my ass than to give them up and eat cardboard or run myself to death on a track trying to stay gorgeous and healthy. It's starting to hit home, one of these days I'll get my head out of my ass and treat my body with respect. Until then, bring on the potatoes.
Your country chose to have a publicly funded health program....everyone benefits from it....even the non smokers who are overweight, have cancer, need joint replacements etc. The doctors, nurses and other hospital workers have chosen their professions. They can't go blaming the patients for being overworked....its just the way it is in the healthcare business. Your country also accepts patients from the United States paying with cash when our physicians turn them away for those 2nd and 3rd transplants (I know of people that have taken advantage of that choice)
Our hospital does not turn patients away for lack of money or insurance. We eat the cost. In our lab, we try and get the patient the best treatment for the least cost.
And I think the original question was regarding - Does a man care if the woman he is kissing tastes like a cigarette? Not if smoking is good or bad for us.
By the way....Hi there Rhumba, hows it shakin? ;)

My father died of lung cancer. My mother-in-law died of lung cancer. I do not see a person smoking as much as I see a disease. Do I want to be around smokers? No! I believe they lack self-control and have a secret death wish. Still, it is their life, so I try not to judge (not easy). I was with a very attractive woman yesterday for lunch, and she did not smoke until she drove away. She could not wait for that smoke. I feel sorry for people who need tobacco. I have had the habit and defeated it. I appreciate the addiction, but I choose to stay away from those who feel that need. In my head, I have said to myself that if I needed to find another mate, she will be smokeless. Still, I would not leave her just because she took-up the habit later.

Vanilla is a term used in the BDSM lifestyle. It is used as an overall description of those who do not practise BDSM in any form.
Hope this clarifies it for you. :) :)

Suz...BDSM is a huge subject...I mean huge...I could write a book on it and not cover every aspect.
To sum it up very very briefly is tough.
Basically the lifestyle embraces pain and pleasure...ranging from spanking, thru gentle flogging all the way to things that turn many people off such as extreme pain which stimulates endorphins.
It also covers Dominance and submissiveness in its many forms. This ranges from co-dependance, collaring, voluntary slavery etc.
Sensory deprivation, by blindfolding, wrapping, rubber suits, bondage... you name it.
Most people can tolerate, or indeed welcome, some bum smacking for sexual pleasure, or have their hands tied, and are turned off by other practises.
As I said these words by no means cover the complexities or the psychology behind all this...but I hope it helps a tad.
There are some good books on the topic. Perhaps the most famous "Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns" by a couple into BDSM, Philip Miller and Molly Devon is a good place to begin.

I just have concerns with regard to legislating and outlawing things just because they are unhealthy because once this train starts rolling, where will it stop. I am not a smoker and never have, except for the occasional cigar or joint with some friends. I do empathize with the smokers though. It has been shown how unhealthy it is and measures have been taken to try and control second hand smoke from imposing on the rest of us, while at the same time, taxes keep getting added to the cost of cigarettes to the point that for those that feel they can't quit basically have a gun to their heads.
Now trans fats are starting to be banned because of the health risks. What will be next alcohol, spinach (due to E-coli), red meat (due to heart disease), eggs and cheeses (for cholesterol), pasta, sugar and potatoes (due to diabetes).
We don't know where this will end. I say, inform us, let us know all the health risks, which they do anyway, and let us make our own decisions. There will be the people that want to live to be 100 and will eat very healthy, exercise regularly and may get there some day. While there will be the others that just want to live in the moment, enjoy their Big Macs and large fries, drink heavily, smoke their Camels and sit on TV all day. That is why there is health insurance. It is designed to take into account the healthy people and unhealthy people and generate a cost basis on those factors.
If the health insurance companies would come out with some figures stating that they could reduce costs by X amount of $$$ if certain health issues were eradicated, then it would give us additional info to base our decisions on but they will never do that because they don't want us to really know how much these things costs, which makes it easier to continue to gouge us.

And, you should. But, really, that's no different than if you don't like women with big breasts (yeah, right!), or women who dye their hair, or women who have body piercings.
Each person has his own standards. Smoking happens to be one of them.

One time at band camp, uh wait wrong story. One time at college I met this girl at a bar and she took me home. We started messing around and I couldn't get past the taste of smoke. I never thought it wold bother me but it was terrible. I think I made her brush her teeth 3 times before giving up. I feel bad for that. I don't like it when she reeks of smoke but if she had a cigarette or two, I don't mind at all. I like the look the way some women smoke a cigarette, so sensual, like they are visualizing they are sucking a dick. Others attack it like they want to kill it.

I work at the local hospital....for years now we have had 2 designated smoking areas outside for the employees to use on their breaks and visitors have been able to smoke outside - 10 feet from the entrances.
Come Jan 1, 2008 there will be no smoking on campus by employees or visitors. The hospital is offering 3 free quit smoking programs to the employees & their families...they have till April 1,2007 to sign up. I haven't heard too many negative comments about it yet. Hope it goes smoothly, I know it can be very hard for some.

I have been a smoker for a long time and can't quit.:( Will a man just turn away from a woman if they see she is a smoker?
FM....we all know the reality of smoking and we all know the reality of the addiction, so I cannot criticize. My honest opinion is I have no problem with a gal who smokes. If I'm in a sexual relationship then it matters not because the smokers have heard it all and I would only be looked at as brow beating them, however, if passion overtakes my feelings for this person, I would ask her not to chain smoke...if that makes any sense? If there are connected feelings between the both of us, then I feel I have the right to help her slow down if possible.
My thoughts. :55
i dont men will turn away from a al smoking, when did everyone become perfect. You accept a person or not. At least i dont let smoking interfer on what i think about a person

Good girl.
I keep telling the ladies that its a simple matter of substituting one pacifier for another. ;)
One quick witted woman I met at a bar responded to this line with "Yeah? Well unless you have the equivalent of 2 packs in your Kalvin Klines it would never work for more than a few hours with me. I then suggested she consider the subtle pleasure of the larger diameter ring gauges and staying power of the Churchill style cigars. She laughed and said "you're on baby, your place or mine?". :D

I would rather have one that smoked tha chewed. I know three professional ladies who chew. The one is a real suit and tie type and always looks so sharp and business like...that is until she pulls out a can and puts a "rub" in that take about a quarter to half a can. She can definately hang with the guys too. Yet it still catches people as striking to so such a "hot" woman chew and spit all over. Myself, I wouldn't put that stuff between my cheek and cheek if you know what I mean!:55

sounds like a good idea, however would you have to pay the employees hazard pay for being around the smoke, I know I lived in a town that passed a no smoking in bars and restraunts a few years ago and some of the places that had smoking closed down.
I just heard that people are upset because they have banned smoking at Busch stadium in St. Louis and i seen were several women are going to sell their season tickets due to it. To me it seems a little outrageous that they would sell tickets. I used to smoke and quit because the wife did not smoke, unfortunatly started again until i had children. My question is that if you smoke is there anything you would do for another when it comes to your smoking habit.

If smoking is the only "negative" then it can be worked around. I don't even really count it as a negative just that she smokes. If she smokes in her house or chain smokes and otherwise always reeks of smoke then something would have to give. I have smoked before and people around me never even knew it. Just because you smoke doesn't mean that you have to smell of it or taste like it all the time. She does her part so that I will do my part.

I wasn't intending to sell smoking as a good thing or equate it to being no worse then eating fast food but rather express my tolerance for people's vices in that I realize everyone of us has them. It was also written more in response to a previous comment (and one often said by many) that they cannot believe someone would do that to their own body. Very few of us take as good of care of our bodies as we should and could. Too little exercise, too much, ingesting massive amounts of cholesterol, and any other thing one could come up with. :spbx:

Do I mind if a woman smokes? Absolutely not. I do ask house guests to smoke outside (I have a nice little smoker's lounge set up in my garage). I gave up smoking approximately five years ago, but will still have a cigar or two during a tailgate party, or a night of bowling. Bottome line, I have many habits that a woman could easily view as annoying, unhealthy, or in some other way nasty. I would hope that she would be able to see past these things, and into the person inside. For that reason, I choose to do the same.

As a life partner, I prefer non-smokers for sure, but I wouldn't fight against falling for a smoker just because of their habit. I wasn't aware that my first wife smoked until I knew I really liked her, but she was very considerate with it, smoked so far away from me, I can't say it really had a bearing on my feelings towards her. It bothered me that it wasn't healthy, but, as I don't take great care of myself, I wasn't really in a position to barter with her about her health.

Smoking is a turn off for me. A lot of other things in the relationship would have to be good to help me get past the smoking. Is this why smoking women dress up a lot more than the non-smoking women? I have always suspected they are compensating in order to compete. In recent years many more women than men smoke and smoking is more dangerous health wise for women than for men.

I couldnt care less, I like a "victory smoke" myself.
Being an ex smoker I can tell you that smoker's breath is as bad as it gets and is a definite turn-off.

I'm an ex smoker so I am probably even more picky.
Now that I have stopped...more than 10 years now. I do not understand how people can smoke. What is a shame is all these young girls that smoke. One, how can the afford it? Two don't they know it is bad for them? When I was younger they never had warnings, not until later did they start, but now it is a well know fact.
So a woman smoking is a turn off. I do not want to kiss an ashtray.

most guys mind if you smoke. we are the new lepers...stay away, unclean, unclean!
i have friends that don't smoke, and i don't smoke before i see them, or when i'm with them.
having quit once, i know how disgusting it smells. but, that doesn't mean that smokers are not worthwhile people, or people to be avoided. we have our good points, too!!
now, if i could only quit again.....

I wouldn't mind if a woman smoked, but it smells so stinkin awful. So, yes I mind.

You do realize not all smokers smell like an ashtray or have smokers breath. Honestly, I would never pass judgement on a guy if he smokes or not. There are far more important things than the fact that he smokes.

Being an equal-opportunity kind of girl, I just thought I'd chime in! I am an ex-smoker, and I do not thnk that smoking bears any connection to who you are as a person, however I couldn't abide by it in a partner. I don't like how it smells, how it tastes, or what it does to you. And the perfect quitting resource fell right into my lap...a cancer diagnosis. I just can't fathom watching someone I love die that way.

I wouldn't object to a hot sexy woman smoking per se. But if I cared anything about her, I would try to make her realize what she's doing to her health. It isn't just lung cancer, but with every inhalation, the circulatory system is being dismantled, and I would want to keep her around as long as possible.

Smoking is a pretty big turn off for me. But if I'm attracted to you a cigarette is not going to stand in the way of me seeing you and getting it on!! Long term is a little sketchy as I have a very young daughter and want to make sure she knows that smoking is not ok and it can do bad things to your body. I have never smoked except cigars socially. From what I am hearing from everyone else is that it is a lot easier to never start then it is to quit.

having quit for 3 years and for some inexplicale reason startin again, i can vouch for the fact that never starting is the way to go

She'd have to be hella hot or we have some incredible chemistry. Just don't do it around me and make sure I can't smell it. But I wouldn't shun a person for it. We all have weaknesses and vices that we turn to in one way or another.
