I'm with you. I think the Lakers depth may well make them unstoppable.

I'm hoping to see the Celtics come out of the east, but I'm not at all sure that they can get past Detroit.

Lakers are certainly looking unstoppable at the moment, but I wouldn't complete write off San Antonio just yet. I don't think they can win the series, but I'd be pretty surprised to see the Lakers sweep. Game 3 will be critical.

The Celtics looked like doggy-poo last night. If it hadn't been for free-throws they'd have lost by 30 points. :crs Maybe if I stop rooting for them...

Actually, if you've watched him through his career, it's pretty amazing the way he has grown up this year. I think most of the knocks on him in the past used to be justified, but he's really showing a lot of class this year. I think Fisher and Mr. Phil may deserve some credit for that.

I have watched,.... he will never live down that Colorado thing, and only 2 people really know what happened.. .with that said i am not gonna get into a debate about someones character when Myself nor anyone on this site is actually prepared to debate it... what can not be debated is his on the court performance, like him, love him, hate him.. you have to resect the mans ability... thats what i was getting at.

The only reason he has grown up this year is because his team is winning and he has stars around him again. If they were out in the first round, or missed the playoffs, it would be the same old guy.

You both may be right, but I tend to take people for who they are and how they behave now and how I might expect them to behave in the future. And if we place him in the population of sports figures in general, especially NBA players, there are certainly much worse out there. At least he hasn't shot anyone lately.

I guess I'm like most people. Entertain me, and I don't really care what else you do. And say what you like. He's certainly entertaining.

In the mean time, do we think Boston can get past Detroit and cause David Stern to come in his pants?

My prediction: Detroit wins game six in a blowout. Boston squeaks by in game seven.

With Billups not fully recovered, and now Hamilton on the mend, I don't think Detroit can pull it off. Go Lakers Go! Not for Kobi, but for Phil!

I think it's pretty clear that Phil has earned his keep this year, with an assist from Mr. Fisher.

I still think that Detroit will be able to win at home, but I agree with you. I don't think that, as banged up as they are, they can go into Boston and win there.

Been a long time since we had Lakers v Celtics. Some of the youngsters at this site probably don't even remember it.

It's Laker time!!
Yes, Kobe has matured this year but getting Pau Gasol didn't hurt. It really allowed Lamar Odom to play his game and not have to rush his shots. Especially when Bynum went out. There was no doubt that they were going to split the games in Boston. So now, it's all about winning at home!!
I'll see everyone at the victory parade in downtown LA!!!

Prediction: Home team wins first six games

Prediction for game seven: no clue.

Boston's playing much better than they have in their previous series, but the Lakers are still in the series without Lamar or Gasol contributing. If Odom starts hitting 15 foot jumpers, Boston may be in trouble.

It's not time to dismiss the Lakers yet. I know it looks bad. Hopefully, Kobe and the rest of the crew can pull their heads out long enough to win the next 3 games. It won't be any easy task but if the Celtics can make history by coming back from 24 down, the Lakers can do the same by winning the next 3 games.

Ok, Ok, I know I was wrong. I had to come back in and say congratulations to the Celtics. I held out hope but I know I was wrong. BUT, do not count the Lakers out next year!!! With a healthy Andrew Bynum back and hopefully a more physical Pau Gasol, we will make a run at it again.

rj1002
06-20-2008, 07:47 PM
One factor that I think was overlooked in setting the Lakers as favorites going in was the experience factor.

The Celtics bench included the likes of PJ Brown and James Posey, both of whom came up big in the series.

The Lakers bench had, as its most experienced player, Luke Walton and made one rookie mistake after another.

The Celtics big three had all been through wars. Garnett, Allen, and Pierce have all been deep into the playoffs before. Odom was once, but was not really a key player on the Miami team. And Gasol, well, Gasol was in Memphis.

So the team that was better built to get to the big stage was probably the Lakers, but the team that was better suited to perform there was very obviously the Celtics. They were the much more focused team, they seemed to get every loose ball, and they didn't make one mental mistake after another.

Let's see what the experience does for the Lakers next year and what the addition of young, inexperienced, but talented Bynum does for the mix.

We are sure it was. Afterall, its been 20 years since the Celtics fans went to one!! As for the Celtics, they were the better team and deserved to win. That said, maybe they could have shown some class in doing so. Consider the following:

-- when you are up 30+ points in the fourth quarter, you don't keep taking 3 pointers and you don't wait to take out your starters until 3 minutes left

-- you don't pour gaterade on your coach (wrong sport) and you certainly don't do so with time left in the game

-- when your star player (Garnet) gets interviewed, he shouldn't "hit" on the reporter

I'd take an injured LeBron over most healthy players. A stubbed toe? puh-leeze.

I dont think so... Detroit is a very bad team, the Hawks are young and will probably lay down tonight.... Here Lass, I found this site for you. Its for all great Cavs fans.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Cavaliers

Pay attention to this area:

However, in 1989, the Cavs were paired against the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the playoffs. In the fourth game of the best-of-five-series, Cleveland managed to beat the Bulls in overtime 108–105 to level the series at 2–2. Home court advantage went to Cleveland. The game was evenly matched, until Cleveland managed to score on a drive and raise the lead by one, with three seconds left. Chicago called for a time-out. The ball was inbounded to Michael Jordan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jordan), who went for a jump shot. Cleveland's Craig Ehlo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Ehlo) jumped in front to block it, but Jordan seemed to stay in the air until Ehlo landed. "The Shot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shot)" went in as time ran out, with Chicago winning the series 3–2. Although replay would show that Jordan cleared Ehlo with his arm in order to get an open look, the buzzer-beater is considered one of Jordan's greatest clutch moments, and the game itself one of the greatest. But the pinnacle of the Cavs' success came in the 1991–92 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991%E2%80%9392_NBA_season) season, when they compiled a 57–25 record and advanced to the Eastern Conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Conference) finals, losing again to the Chicago Bulls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Bulls) 4–2.

[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cleveland_Cavaliers&action=edit&section=5)] 1993–2003: A long struggle

Soon after, the Cavaliers entered into a period of decline. With the retirements and departures of Nance, Daugherty and Price, the team lost much of its dominance and were no longer able to contest strongly during the playoffs. After the 1992–93 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992%E2%80%9393_NBA_season) season, in which the Cavs boasted a 54–28 regular-season record but suffered an early exit from the playoffs in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals to the Chicago Bulls, Wilkens left to coach the Atlanta Hawks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Hawks).

Sorry, I felt bad for you and wanted you to read it all over again.

Wonder if LeBron is enjoying watching the Finals minus the 25 grrrrrr for walking off the floor and leaving without doing his postgame conference. I"m thinking i'm going to bring a rattle and some depends for him next year when he plays the Bulls.

That and with out that tumor in his jaw that they removed inbetween his sobbing

You do have plenty of time on your hands since the Cavs are done, the Indians are in last place, and the Browns 2-14 season hasn't started yet.

Oh crap, here comes the bats. Luckily it would be the Indians swinging it, and from what I have seen, they can't hit much. So I think I'm safe!!!

You're not actually suggesting that the Lakers benefited from home-court officiating in games 3 & 4, are you? Did you notice that the Magic, in game four, made more free throws than the Lakers attempted? AND missed nearly as many as the Lakers attempted?

Interesting note: The team that couldn't shoot free throws has lost both games in Orlando.

Might be nice to see a game without so many foul calls tonight.

The only disappointment is that it would have been so much nicer if it happened in Boston and Phil were to light up a cigar with a minute to go.

Guess you never noticed that the Lakers didn't take one foul shot in the fourth quarter of game 4...hmmm.
Doesn't matter, though, they let them all play in game 5 and the better team taught Orlando how champions win.
Maybe next year Magic.

That would have been better... but I did like the little shot towards the Boston faithful when Phil put on that Laker colored had with the roman numeral "X" on it.

Yes, he said it was a present from his kids. Nice to have kids like that.
