LOL, okay, the answer is: Chrissie Hynde

The folklore says that Chrissie was about to enter a Milwaukee club for a pre-show sound check for a concert the Pretenders were going to have that night when she saw and heard the Violent Femmes playing out in the street. She was so impressed (again, according to legend) that she had them open the show for her that night and for the rest of the tour. That is supposedly how they got their first big break.

She was married to Jim Kerr of the Simple Minds and had a daughter with him in 1985.

Two years prior, she had a daughter with Ray Davies of the Kinks. She and the Pretenders did a cover of "Stop Your Sobbing", that I like better than the original.

Hank Williams Sr once visited London during the 60's I think :sc

anyway, whilst he was in London he travelled on the underground network otherwise known as the tube. He got off at a station in Richmond called the Crawdaddy Club.

Playing at the club that night were a young and vibrant band called the Rolling Stones.

Drink was taken.

Hank said later that night that they were " Never gonna amount to Jack Shit" and proceeded to make a general nuisance of himself for the rest of the evening.

He was last seen leaving the establishment with a rather obvious transvestite called Mitzi Dupree. She was later to have a song named after her by another prominent British rock band of the 60'S and 70'S.

Good Job!!!

Paul co-wrote Backlash with Joan Jett (and is in the video, which I only now noticed I forgot to post with the songs; sorry). The song sounds soooo much like a Westy song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKmEi-ZM4RM

He married one of the Zuzu Petals band members.

And Pete Buck of REM played the mandolin on "If You Would Dare", written by Westy and recorded by his band, the Replacements. http://www.imeem.com/liberation1945/music/Ay5cM89p/the_replacements_i_will_dare/

The "Fargo Walk of Fame" was actually the sidewalk in front of one the local quick printer's shop. As a publicity stunt, he would give up a square of the sidewalk whenever a celebrity came to town and talk them into putting their hands and feet into new cement.

Was amazing who he all got to do it; from memory, he did it in the 80's and part of the 90's before closing the business. Once he left, the city pulled the "walk of fame" out and replaced it with a regular, boring sidewalk.

Haven't seen it anywhere else in town, including the Fargodome, but I hope you are right.

What I read said it got moved to the visitors center outside because the movie "Fargo" made Fargo so popular... not sure why they moved it because of that but they did... was this just a stunt to make us all learn a bit more about your town?:sc

LOL, not yet to be honest (and anyone else is obviously free to enter their's).

The answer is: "Fargo"!

Fargo-Moorhead was the destination of the plane that had Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens when it crashed.

As a side note, this left a need for a replacement band for the concert in Fargo, so a local kid and his band filled in, calling themselves "Bobby Vee and the Shadows". Bobby Vee leveraged this opportunity to launch a pretty successful career with some hits, including the #1 hit "Take Good Care of My Baby".

One of Stevie Ray's Vaughn's last concerts before he died in an helicopter crash was in Fargo.

Sorry, if you were looking for a more cerebral answer, but there it is.

I gotta say since we both mentioned Fargo in our threads that neither one of us gets a win since it wasn't quite what you were looking for. Although we both did have common denominators just not the one you wanted soooooo. Maybe we get a 2nd place. :sc

The mp3 is not pertinent to the answer, Tig.

By the way, did you know that "WE Fest" (and just for Han's benefit: http://www.wefest.com/08/index.php), one of the larger annual country music festivals, is just 10 days away? It started in 1983 and has been held every year since, just a 1/2 hour away from Fargo in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Since it's country I don't imagine that WE FEST is the common denominator, just thinking out loud here.

Speaking of country music festivals we have a great one up here in B.C. Merritt Mountain Music Festival, every mid-July. I haven't been in a few years but have had a blast everytime I've gone.

Back to the thread, give me a bit. I will try and figure it out.
