I for one am subject to having a crush on someone...who is likely disinterested, very kind towards me, wants to be friends...and it all likely leads absolutely nowhere...excepting all the jittery feelings, the wondering, waiting and stress...and the fact that I am much older, more secure in myself, and value "friends" in a more enlightened way...

I find an unbelievable amount of similarities between the two.

I often find myself being reminded here of the different groups and personalities I had encountered in middle school and high school, and how we all interacted back then seems very similar to a lot of how we interact here.

Sunny put it real well....it is like high school in those ways. We also have a lot of different 'characters' here like in high school....many different personalities, but they all get along quite well at the end of the day.

We have some "teachers", that many of us have learned from.... we have "class clowns" (they know who they are, I won't name them).... we have "intellectuals".... and the "girl cliques" (shout out to my Boobiefive Girls!).... and the "hot guys"..... and all that jazz.

It's also like high school where you can come here....and for a short time.... forget about your bills, your spouse, your home, your kids, your mortgage, your job.... all the stuff we didn't have to worry about before we grew up! That's the best part, in my opinion.

I can see the cliques of people... but ALL -- without exception-- are welcoming. It's not like you can't just walk up and talk to anyone. I would say 99% of the people here are friendly... and THAT is a BIG improvement from high school.

Maybe some of the things about the site, or rather, the people on the site are slightly immature... but I'm not so sure that is a BAD thing. Obviously, we all need some goofy reasons to laugh and smile during the day. And even the most goofy of us is capable of a serious conversation on some of the deeper threads.

And there are some "outcasts" here... but in my opinion... they are outcasts by CHOICE. I can not think of a single person here that I have approached for a conversation, or friendship, that has not been accepting and nice.

So, yeah... maybe it is a lil like high school... but DAMN... I wish I had gone to a high school like this!!!!!

I am still the way I was in high school.. the one people would come to to ask about others because I watch.. I learn about people.. I see what people are doing.. not being nosy.. just paying attention..

I had a discussion that reminded me of this thread..

it was just a few comments.. but I was basically made out to be this snob with my clique of girls.. first off.. I don't consider myself a snob.. and secondly.. I have many friends on site.. I do not have a group that I hang out with.. I never have, neither in real life nor cyber.. I have a best friend and a few girls that I like to chat with and have fun with in threads.. outside of here I really don't talk to anyone.. well.. a few people on my IM..

I like to make new friends and I think I have talked to everyone on site at least one time or another in a friendly conversation.. some not so friendly ones also..

I mean, I can see the groups of friends that have formed.. good for them.. I do not begrudge them that.. and I don't see why anyone would.. is this place like high school?

only if you want it to be like high school.. it is all in the way your perceive it yourself.. it took me a long time to figure that out.. but always being the outsider made me learn to watch, listen, and learn..

I think you can say M&F is like just about any place. People make friends and groups form. I think every emotion has been gone through on this site and it's normal when you get so many different people together. I do find myself to really not be part of any one group, yes it was like that in high school, but it's like that now in real life. I just try to be friendly with everyone.
