I remember as a kid it was absolutely one of my favorite holidays.....the weather, the food, the firework stands that popped up on about every other 5th block... being a kid and blowing up G.I. Joes, the neighbor girls babrbies...then staying up and seeing the most amazing things light up the dark nights sky....never seemed to last long enough.... was just great being a kid back then

My favorite 4th memory happened about 50 yrs ago when I was young--we had a camp on the St. Lawrence river and my Mom and Dad and my aunts uncles and cousins were there and we had family picnic and fireworks we got in Canada--I miss my family they were the days.

After the barbecue in the backyard and the pool parties....
We used to have a flat roof that extended off the third floor of our house....we'd all gather out there and sit and watch the fireworks displays. It was safe enough, if you dodged the bottle rocket sticks that landed near you, LOL.
From our vantage point, you could watch the 101st Avenue display that John Gotti put on every year....it was awesome!

When I was a kid, I always looked forward to the 4th of July. I remember the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs cooking on the grill, and sitting out on the porch swing with my mom while my brothers and my dad set off bottle rockets and other fireworks.
My favorite 4th of July memory with my kids is when we watched the fireworks show over Mt.Rushmore. I loved seeing the amazement in their little faces while they watched....it was awesome.

I can't believe being a Canadian I actually have a 4th of July memory.
I was working in Japan one July 1st, Canada Day, so of course all the Canucks partied til the wee hours of the morning creating quite the comments from the locals, they loved it.
All was quiet for a few days until July 4th came along. All I can say is, you 'mericans can party but ya just can't beat us Canadians at one of our national pastimes. :lmao

I don't know that I have just one. My family celebrates the 4th with PASSION. All day swimming at the lake, cookouts, and fireworks, followed by camping.
I can still FEEL the way it felt. Excited like I was on crack, in a wet swim suit, my hair a mess, trying to rush the night into coming. Roasting marshmallows, and the leaves and sticks under my pruney toes.
Writing my name with the smoke from the sparklers... Shouting after every firework with my cousins.
*sigh* I can't WAIT!!!!!!

going to what used to be an empty field with the family. Blankets all over. Laying on the grass and watching the fireworks. Now it is a stip mall. They used to have some kind of plane go by first and drop something with numbers on it for contests.
My very favorite is when our kids were young. We would go camping in Northern Michigan....and watch the fireworks on the beach in Mackinac City...on Lake Huron.
They set them off from 3 locations at the same time...Mackinac City, St Ignace ( in the Upper Peninsula) and Mackinac Island.
Magical.....
