Have you seen the Bucket List? It was a good movie. I was expecting more humor given the main characters, but I still enjoyed it.
Putting that aside... it got me thinking about the things I would like to do before I kick the bucket. I started thinking about what I would like to accomplish before that time that makes me feel as if I lived a complete and satisfying life.
After pondering about it for a while I realized something that really brought me down. I realized I don't think I'll ever feel as if I have lived a complete and satisfying life. Does, or has, anyone else ever felt like that???
I'm still young so maybe feeling this way is natural, but when I think about all I have done & experienced up until now... I should feel some sense of life achievement, but I don't. Maybe it's my pointless and meaningless job that makes me feel this way.
My grandmother just turned 94, and when I talk with her about her life... she truly feels as if she has lived and experienced. Now, I’m not comparing myself to someone that has lived 62 more years then I have. I just have to wonder when I reach my golden years if I'll feel as if I've lived and made a difference.
What are your thoughts?
What are some things you would like to do before you kick the bucket?
Even if your not too happy with your current situation, do you feel as if your living a satisfying life?
For me... I decided I want to try and make a difference to someone or some group. Maybe I'll start a yearly fund raiser for a children’s hospital. They way I see it is... helping people has always made me feel good. Maybe in the end... devoting my spare time to helping sick children will make me feel as if I have lived a complete and satisfying life.
How about you?
Sorry... I never intended for this post to be this long.

This is a great post..I will have to think about it and come back and post my thoughts. I know that I am happy with what I have done so far in my life but I dont know where I will go from here. I understand what you mean when you say you dont feel like you have done anything that just stands out in your life. I hope you find what will make your life have real meaning and by the way its nice to meet you.:wa:

I think that is a really great idea :) Helping others is quite satisfying.

I recall that part in the movie where he asks if you have found joy in yourself.. and have you brought joy to others...
Right now i am happy with my life... there are many things I want to do but they are not things I can do right now. I am very fortunate with where my life is right now, I am sure there is room for improvement. I would like to travel to a few more places... but have to work to maintain the lifestyle i have.
Great Post!!

I have similar feelings due to the choices I made in my life, putting everyone else's needs before mine, and the sacarfices I've made to keep the peace in my family. I feel like I've missed a lot in life and now that my marriage is ending I want to make changes and feel like I have lived...for me.
I would like to see/live in all of Africa and do what I can to help, before the country is gone and lost forever. I know a few people from different parts of Africa and they are all wonderful people. They have such a joy and peace about them, even with all the horrible things that are happening in Africa.
I would also like to travel around North America, learn kayaking and rock climbing, and finish my book. I want to get over my fears of snakes and guns. I want to change some Laws on child abuse and how it is handled, start an agency for teenagers who need support and are not getting it through child services. Possible if I find the right guy, looking at having a child. So at the end I can say I lived for me, I faced all my fears and did something for some else.

AnnieGeee, that's a great way to look at it!!!
I’m one of those insane Christmas light decorators… every year I add on to my display and it's grown to be pretty big. People/cars always stop and get out to get a good look at everything I have.
This year I'm planning on doing something very different, I may scale it down this year to work out the technical aspect of it, but it will have that wow factor. Then I'll build it up again.
My plan is to animate my lights to music. Cars driving by will be able to tune their car radio to a station and watch my lights blink and flash to the music. Plus, I’ll have a speaker outside for pedestrians. I started planning last month for this… like I said I’m a bit insane with my xmas lights.
I guess where I’m going with this is… I have seen many displays. Geez, I’ll travel just about anywhere to see a good display. A lot of these guys who decorate and draw attention usually accept donations… either for their electric bill, their church, or something other charity…
So maybe this year I’ll try and use my display as a tool to raise money for a children’s hospital. Not expecting to raise much the first year... but I have to start somewhere.
Hopefully it will grow to be something big, and will turn into a tradition for family’s to visit my display. If that were to happen, I have some really good ideas for using a Christmas display as a fund raiser... I would just need the cooperation of the city :sc.

I guess I am way more shallow then most people -
If I knew I was going to die - I would have a threesome with or without my hubby - his choice.
Have sex with that really cute delivery guy.

Never keep in my opinion - what the HELLLL I will be dead soon.

OMG great post. I think the 2 biggest things would be race in a NASCAR cup race. (DAYTONA), and spend one week alone with the kids fishing or camping

I would want to help my children finish growing up. Go to college and get married. I would love to go back to school and learn a profession I could be proud of. And last I pray that one day I can meet a man who loves me and thinks I am very special. Someone to finish growing old with, who loves spending time with me who loves making love together or just holding each other.

If i kicked the bucket today???No my life is not satisfying. I have not found the complete joy I long for. My spouse says there is something wrong with me for thinkingI should be happy all the time. I figure I should be happy half the time??? sORRY......Bad hair day I guess...
...a couple years back I woke up, opened my eyes and decided it's not about me...it's about the people around me and how I effect their lives, so I do my best to take care of mine and others who accept my help...my bucket list wish is to see my kids grow up, avoid the mistakes I made and take care of their's...:D

WOW! This is a GREAT post!
If I were to die today, no, I have not lived my life to my full potential.
There are so many things I want to do but is it really the quantity or is it the quality??? So, I say that I don't care what I do to finish out my last days, I just want to do it happy.
As for helping others, I work with behavioral and mentally ill kids in an alternative school setting. It has been one of the most rewarding events of my life.

My wife and I had this discussion a few years ago. Her doctor scared us about her health (luckily everything turned out OK), so we decided to do some things we wanted to do. We accomplished one, living at the beach. Now we're working on some other things.
I would like to do some traveling. We want to see Yellowstone Park. I want to go to Scotland. She lived there for awhile and based on her stories I would love to see it. We would like to take a train from Texas to the northwest, then take an Alaska Cruise.
One secret dream I have is to start or participate in a program that takes animals from shelters and pair them with lonely elderly folks and youngsters who don't have a pet. I would love to do that!

Since My wife became unable to travel mine seemes to need a bigger bucket--all the plans are now moot--Grand Canyon hike, ride roller coasters in every state, Volcano sights in Hawaii.--and last but not least meet a few of the wonderful people from this site.

You're making a differenc right their with or without the donations. There is something absolutely magical about an x-mas light display. For a little while everything goes away and you're 6yrs old again. It always refreshes me. Good on'ya!
For me, I'm heavily involved in boy scouts and my son's life. As frusatrating as it can be, parenting is the toughest job you'll ever love, and I wouldn't change it for anything else.
I've already fulfilled my bucket list. It happened when my son was about 3. I came home from work a little later than usual, but not much and as a opened the door this 2' torpedo came running down the hall laughing and yelling "DADDY, DADDY,DADDY!!!!!" and latched on to my leg. He greeted me that way everyday for almost a year. Anything else that I get now is just icing on the cake.
