Yes I guess its mainly what your brought up with, in the States the soccer MLS is a very high standard, yet I will admit I rarely watch it, I can get Celtic and the Scottish league on TV and the internet.
Also like the English Premier league, and I like Manchester United, have done since I first saw them live as a lad, when Celtic beat them 2-1 in the Coronation Cup 1953. LoL
Theres loads of soccer game coverage now in the States.
The USA national team are good, have fell away a little from a few years ago, but still good. Scotland is my first pick for a national team, and the USA are my second pick.
Aussie rules I dont watch that, mainly because I dont understand it, but it is popular down under, and has been played for longer than some soccer games I believe.
Australia amazes me, its not a real big populated country, but bloody hell they sure are good at a number of sports, forbye Aussie rules. Eg, Rugby, Soccer, Cricket, Swimming, Tennis, I am sure other sports, Drinking beer, Sheep shagging, LoL just kiddin.
Its funny I wonder when they get to practise and get fit, what time do the pubs shut? HaHaHa

I think we should make an American version of the game. Allow body checks and get rid of the stupuid offsides rule. That would allow more violence and scoring. Just what America loves.
hughie
08-04-2008, 11:16 AM
More violence, LoL, that takes place in the stands!
In South America two countries almost went to war over soccer.
Rugby is the worlds body checking game.
And there is contact in soccer, just look at the stud showing tackles and broken legs.
And they have complicated the offside law a bit, its not the law thats the problem, its the application. Then again what else is new?

Yes it is a mans game, and those guys run alot.
In American football, theres about 50 players most of them hardly get to move, block yes etc, but goodness bloody gracious, very little exertion, and its a small field, only one hour long, although it lasts about three I think, thanks to commercials. HaHa

I'm a Man City fan hughie so maybe we won't be getting along very well because of your leaning towards the dark side of Manchester. :sc
I'm a Manchester lad born and bred therefore I support Manchester's one and only Premier League Team.
(Man Utd play in the borough of Trafford which is outside of the city boundaries).
City are playing Celtic on Wednesday night so I'm hoping the sale of Samaras to Celtic doesn't come back to haunt us.

I have played football, rugby, ice hockey and a little soccer. Beleive it or not American Football is the roughes of them all even with the pads and it is physically taxing.
Rugby and soccer you definately do more running, but your body can't tak much more than one Football game a week.

Thats a terrific looking stadium cyclops, yes I will be watching the City game Wednesday, its on TV here but delayed, thats ok, I will see it on a big screen.
Samaras scored against Feynoord, and he is ok, but not an EPL standard player, works hard, but lacks finesse, you guys didnt need him.

Yes I play every Sunday, we have the same two teams, although they get jumbled up, united nations, some verygood arguments but never very serious.
Here are some nationalities, and I wont mention duplication, also may miss one or two.
American, English, German, Argentina, Brazil, Greece, Bulgaria, Iran, Mexican, Canada, Denmark, Spain, Hungary, Bermuda, St Lucia, Armenia, Italy, and of course myself, Scottish.

We won Sunday 3-1, wonders will never cease, thats only our second win in about 3 months. LoL
The excercise is good, and there were about 26 guys on the field, which is huge, probably 90 yds by 120 yds.
I felt good, but the reflexes are telling, kind of slow, when getting a chance to score, however the old brain still can make the ball do the work.
It really helps being a legend in you own mind! LoL
Got up at 4 am Sunday morning and watched Celtic 1 St Mirren 0, starting at 4:30 am on my PC, Celtic were the better team, but it was NOT a convincing win or game to watch.

I havent played for four weeks, my achilles tendon was very sore, then it went into my lower calf muscle, never had this before in my life. was going to play last Sunday then got a cold, LoL.
Got lucky with my right knee, nearly a year ago, the doc said he couldnt do anything but said if I want to keep kicking the ball, he could give me cortizon shots, I have had two, and they work, next one will be in January 2009.
I also take gluscosamine chondroitin (sp).
Hope your knee doesnt hurt, they can be awkward over the years.

A few days ago the weather people said it would be windy and possible rain, Sunday my time.
Well it was verygood they were wrong.
It was real sunny, in the 40s farnheit, and two full teams plus showed up.
My Achilles tendon was good, my right knee a wee bit sore, come January I will get another cortisone(sp) shot.
I didnt play as good as I would have liked, but my stamina was verygood, and as I said the Achilles tendon was no problem.
We lost last week, but won Sunday 5-3, and I didnt score! Oh well!

Guess you come from a soccer country, Europe somewhere maybe?
This past Sunday most of the players were playing in Vegas in a tournament with teams all over the States and Canada.
So we ended up playing 5 on 5, it is not easy at my age, but excercise never the less.
The weather is terrific here, so it should be a full game this Sunday.
On my TV and the internet I get a lot of games, of course Celtic from Glasgow are #1 for me, but the best league to watch is the English premeir league.
Manchester United are top now with Liverpool going into second spot.
Do you have a favourite team Sofia?

Many people are passionate about many things. I really like watching soccer because I used to play it when I was a kid, and friends and family play it. I also enjoy the games. I moved to the States long time ago and I miss my "normal" sports so much.
Coming from a nation that plays soccer, I'd say if you were not raised with those sporting backgrounds then sure you won't understand it.
I also believe soccer can get boring for people who don't follow it as much as others, as does football for soccer fans.
And even if one grows up within a soccer mad nation you may not enjoy it, so it stands to reason that people will find it boring.
I have to say that I don't really know a lot about American Football, but I'm trying to understand it because my son likes it.
Also, I respect players and fans of any sport!!

I grew up playing football, baseball and basketball, and didn't really play soccer until I got to college. There were so many internationals around, and soccer is a game EVERYONE knows how to play. It requires individual and team effort, and it's a pleasure to be on the field with a really good player.
It's interesting to hear some people critisize the sport. My guess, is they've never really played. I admit, unless you know the players, it's ALMOST as boring to watch as baseball. LOL.
It's funny this thread popped up. I just got the Parks 'n Rec bulletin, and I plan to sign up for the local adult summer soccer league this week. It's co-ed, and some of the girls are pretty good. They're on summer break from college, where they have soccer scholarships. Ya, they're faster than me.
I plan to keep playing until I get too old, and then I MIGHT learn how to golf, but I kinda doubt it. ;)

There are many sports that people play and referred too as football, American football, Aussie rule football, Gaelic football, Rugby football, however that be as it may, most people in the world prefer the Real Football, as you mentioned the beautiful game!
