Verses the postive messages on country about losing your dog, drinking beer, crashing your truck and cheating wives? I think it doesn't matter the genre of music. There's good and bad in all styled of music.
Except maybe Rap!!!:sc

My kids love pop music as well as country but I have to be careful with the messages they get no matter what they hear. Even on disney radio they play some songs with questionable messages. I guess its just a matter of preference. The cowboy hat and boots gets me drooling every time and hey isnt that what matters anyway.

As a musician I pretty much can appreciate all types of music. As far as country goes, it is way down on my list. I like the guitars and their are some very good country players. For the most part the singing and lyrics works on my nerves. There's just so much other good music and musicianship out there that I guess i just don't have the time to be listening to country if I don't really care for it. I have been to Nashville and it was a great time! Loved the whole vibe there. But for me, I would never buy tickets to see a country artist. I probably go to 4 or 5 concerts a year and mostly they are progressive jazz, or rock shows. Lots of great indie artists out there right now too.
And I also think that rap music is getting a bad rap. Just because you don't understand it and never listen to it doesn't mean it's all bad. It's not generally my cup of tea either but people that grow up in that environment sing about their life experiences just like the country artists do.

I am a big country music fan, but love all types of music. I love songs that speak to me, get down to my core if you will. Country has a tendency to do this, as well as some alternative music.
Old country music joke....
What do you get when you play a country song backwards?
You get your wife back, your dog back, your job back, etc...........

Growing up in Nashville, where ironically it was "uncool" to listen to C&W; I've learned to not only appreciate the music and lyrics, but have also become a huge fan. I love all music...some I get in the mood for, others if it is on, but C&W is always a selection in my car...new or old.

Crystal Gayle
Waylon Jennings
Josh Turner
Martina McBride
Sara Evans

Yeah, I forgot the Chicks and Toby Keith, for heaven's sake. I even forgot Allison Krause. I can take Reba in small doses, especially when she's not singing that turgid ballad with Kelly Clarkson. And Patsy Cline...if for no other reason than Crazy...
