One out of three movies I watch are probably some sort of foreign film. I enjoy "experiencing" different cultures and I find that most foreign films are less predictable and more thought provoking than Hollywood movies.

I saw 'En La Cama' (In Bed) the other night. It was a very low key movie. The dialogue was realistic, fun and interesting to see two people that have just met connect emotionally and physically. Plus, the sex scenes were incredibly hot. It was the kind of movie that you wonder what could have happened to the characters after the end of the movie. Two thumbs up for sure.

I'm interested in finding out who else watches foreign films. I would also like to hear your suggestions and what you liked about it.

As kid in school we watched the Red Balloon just about every year...it's a black and white movie with a bright red balloon being the only colour. The balloon fallows this little boy everywhere he goes, there is no talking at all in the movie but the music is great...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic8XzBJzsEE

A real sexy one is a 1986 French film called "37°2 le matin" (renamed "Betty Blue" in most rental stores)

Thanks! "The Lives Of Others" looks particularly good to me. I really enjoyed "Sex And Lucia". I liked how the story switched back and forth between reality and what the novelist was writing.

I was actually disappointed by "The Lives of Others" and expected it to be more than it was. But, ymmv.

I saw the American version of "The Last Kiss" and enjoyed it. I bet the Italian original is even better. "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" has been on my recommended list on Netflix forever. I just moved it to the top of the list. Thanks!

"Life is Beautiful" is such a great movie! Roberto Benigni is so delightful. "Amelie" is one of my favorite movies regardless of language. Because I loved Audrey Tautou in "Amelie" so much, I watched "A Very Long Engagement" which was excellent and very romantic. "Oldboy" looks great. I'll check it out first from your list. Thanks!

French films are generally unpretentious and a lot of fun...

Examples:

"Amelie" (2001)

"The triplets of Bellville" (actually has no language as such in it):

"Jean de Florette" and "Manon des Sources"
starring Yves Montand, Daniel Auteuil and Gerard Depardieu
