So, how you doin' and where you from?

http://www.lewrockwell.com/spl3/amer...cent-quiz.html

this quiz will bring out the truth..you aren't really from Texas are you?

Tell us where you sound like you are from.

Mine said Midwest, Chicago even though I'm New England..that's because
I try to drop the long aaa early on.

JumpingJack 02-04-2013 03:18 PM

I think i sound like I am from Tenn but actually from further south than that.

BlueSky1234 02-04-2013 03:24 PM

Although I'm from England, I thought I'd give it a go.

North East - New York, North Jersey.

JumpingJack 02-04-2013 03:44 PM

89% south...i'd say they nailed it

southern1 02-04-2013 03:44 PM

Mine said Midland, but I am much further south than that.

surely you have picked up some odd turns of phrase from all those hazy nights hanging out in the Quarter tho, huh?

Chrysalis. 02-04-2013 03:59 PM

Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah. I def sound more Creole than Texan now. When I go back for a visit they all make plenty fun of me.

HeavenlyFreak 02-04-2013 11:42 PM

The inland North? Now that cracks me up...I am European...does it mean I sound American? Now that is cool!

Just A Girl 02-04-2013 11:47 PM

89% inland north....it says I'm from Chicago and I am.

disturbiagirl 02-04-2013 11:48 PM

North central.....interesting

scoobertina 02-04-2013 11:52 PM

What American accent do you have?Your Result: North Central

88%

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

Ya, I tink I am from der donchano

moon&stars 02-05-2013 12:05 AM

Midland 100%.

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Revenant 02-05-2013 12:08 AM

Huh? North Central.. no. I have a mild accent of an actual dialect, but I'm sure it's not an answer on this quiz!

Caddidlehopper 02-05-2013 12:42 AM

The inland north

I'm a bit north and west of there
Being a Canuck and all

principessa 02-05-2013 12:52 AM

Midland.. which means I have no accent. But it didn't ask me if I say "like" and "totally" every few words... so I didn't get "valley girl"

I am on the West Coast. ;)

Midland but the 2nd one for me was "The West"

I'm inland north.. huh. I always considered myself an accent mutt.

former midwest girl, now mid-atlantic. wth am I doing taking this at almost midnight?

TomIAm 02-05-2013 06:10 AM

Apparently I broke the internet with my answers...I finished the quiz twice, hit submit, but the results page wouldn't load. Let's just say I'm from Awesome.

Thats funny, but accurate I guess

This exact quiz is missing so I found The NY Times version (link below) and it said my answers applied to these three cities: Rochester, Milwaukee, Fresno. Since I have lived in the northeast and Ohio only, I guess that’s not too bad.
