This website is not a dating service, infact I dont recomend using it as such. I don't recomend giving anyone your email address none the less personal info such as phone numbers or God forbid your home or work address. Don't tell anyone where you work or what your real name is. It's a dangerous world out there. No matter how much you like someone or how smart you think you are there is always someone smarter.

We have a zero tollerance policy on stalking or making others uncomfortable asking for more information than they are willing to give. If anyone makes you feel uncomfortable please report them ASAP to a mod. I own this site and I wont give out my real last name or the town I live in and no one even knows my personal email address other than the one I use for the site.

I dont want to know your personal info and there is no reason for a moderater to know your info. Keep it to yourself and be safe.

This may be a good place for others to post any ideas they have on how to protect yourself online.

One tip I can offer is dont use the same nick name here that you use on anyother site that may contain personal info about you. All someone has to do is Google your name and that info is availible to them. If anyone wants to change their nick name send me a Private message or email.

Does anyone else have any tips for people on how to protect them selves online?

I'm glad you posted this Penny....there are a lot of crazies out there....as well as a lot of nice people....

I don't have my email address listed here or anywhere....and I don't give out my messenger name to anyone who asks....I also don't ask or answer a lot of personal questions....unless I feel comfortable...and I don't give my real name out unless I am comfortable either...and never my last name...

I also think people should be concerned if someone comes on too strong or acts too dumb....they could be doing a con....and never post a pic of ur house or car where the address or license number could be read....
Nor use ur birthdate....ss#....or any personal info as part of a site name or a password....
It's always best to be safe then sorry...

Wierdos are great at making you feel comfortable though so how do you know that you can be safe? I think its just to risky now a days especially for women. The difference between this place and a dating bar or club is you cant see the person your talking to.

Well hun..the only person who has any info on me...is Tiger....other than that...the most anyone knows about me is my messenger name or first name....other than that....nada, other than I live in NJ...or do I?

A clever stalker is patient, and will gradually collect personal info, piece by piece, until they know who you are. Sometimes it takes very little information. If you have a unique first name, or even a unique spelling of your name, that may be all it takes, along with perhaps the state in which you live.

I can only emphasize what Penny has said. Be very careful what personal info you share!

the scary part is I know people that have flown to other cities to meet people from websites without really knowing them very well at all...

The best way to stay safe, is ask the person you are talking to if they are a stalker or murderer???I find they usually tell you the truth...Or are they???

i agree you have to be careful but the same goes about meeting anyone and letting them come to my home that i don't meet online but anywhere else. i would not bug anyone to give me info but what if you know someone you want to talk to online, lives nearby or even if you dont' live close by...but you want to share your email (i should have the choice if i want to give my nick to someone..i don't even put any real info even in here as far as bd or exact place i live so i want to do it in private) and you can't find me in google. i am not inviting anyone to my house . i am only wanting to have a conversation that is not anything interesting to married and flirting and it's a cool thing to find someone here who lives close. i met my husband online.
so there are good ppl out here.

If you wish to pass your email address to another person, I recommend that you simply go into the chat room and give it to him or her. If there are people in the main chat room that you are unsure if they should see your email or IM address, simply create a private room where the two of you can converse. That is a temporary board, and the data is quickly lost. You will have significantly less exposure doing it that way.

Best way to do it is to have a separate email for this site through yahoo, google or msn, for several reasons, one of which, it keeps your spouse from reading these emails on your computer since they are all kept on the companies server.

oh, i met my hubby online. my sister is married to a guy who was in my poetry comm. i've met groups of ppl from tulsa where we'd all go to a club or a party or even on picnics in groups..it was fun. i miss it. i have friends now from canada who've come to okla and stayed with us. met husband and wife. had dinner. but then i've been offline for a couple of yrs except to talk to only a couple of ppl..so i'm trying to get back into it. i'll make a huge effort not to stir the pot again. i just felt i was hopping on one foot.

If someone feels they are truly connecting with another member, you can generally get a good idea as to what is real and what is not or who is real and who isn't. I have posted to many and there is always a red flag somewhere...you need to be aware of these red flags because if something sounds "off" it sure as hell probably is. Always trust your gut because there are too many used car dealers out there waiting to make a sale at our expense...and these people can sell you sand from the beach at a high cost. Should someone post a line that is strange or just odd from their previous posts...that can very well be a "red light" Remember the bottom line....we don't truly know anyone...all we know is what they want us to know about themselves and the phonies surface eventually...so keep those eyes open and trust your gut.

All of that being said, there are some truly beautiful people out there and I hope you find them.

All the moderators here do a good job so you can't go wrong with any of them but it's never a bad thing to be cautious as long as you don't become paranoid about it. When you become skeptical of everyone, even your closest friends, you can wreck a relationship.
