A week later and not one opinion on something as momentous as the Feminist revolution?...a thread about "showing respect" draws so many responses and yet the decades long quest for "respect" by half the population from the other half can't raise a squeak....

Pretty sad really.

Feminism?? wtf there is such a word?
Sadly, Singeon....the revolution has not yet reached our shores...a married woman is regarded as SLIGHTLY above a cow here..<HEY! cows are hell of a important so don't knock it!>
Single ladies? They are under the care of their parents until such time they are handed over to a 'suitable' man! There are exceptions of course...but from personal experience...well I needed a SUITCASE of certified documents just to open a bank account recently...and then my DH had to be present when they presented me with my card & cheque book.....
at home I wear the pants though ....

Freshly, we have a poet Nazım Hikmet. In one of his poems he wrote:
Our women..Their place comes after of oxens..But nowadays there are some changes but again the situations are awful.

Sorry --- I come to your thread late.

I think the feminist movement, while rooted in appropriate ideals and concepts, has had a decidedly negative effect on our society. The feminist movement was hijacked for some with political goals.

The demasculinization of the American male has led to more children without fathers, more one-parent homes, and a shirking of responsibility, whether it be moral, financial, or societal.

(Think that will get them started?)

There actually is a Feminism thread somewhere around here...I was going to comment on this, but your question is pretty broad....

The demasculinization of the American male? *Sigh* Shaking head. I can't do it today. I just can't do. I don't have it in me. I'm walking away from this one.

Awww, come on! You don't think I'd make an outlandish statement like that for no reason, do you? (They call it "stimulating the discussion"). I'm going to be real disappointed if someone doesn't react (of course, around here, they beat up the poster, not the post).

"Cyberbullying involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate and hostile behaviour by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others."

Hardly applies, wouldn't you say?

I agree! I actually think we should see what we can do to turn things back to the way they should have been all along...

LOL! Trust me I know all about the poster getting beat up for the post. Maybe tomorrow I'll argue with you on that one. I could truly go for days on it, but I've had a hell of a week and it's only Monday. Don't tell the other feminists. I'll fight the good fight another day.

I am not a feminist, but I do believe women are unfairly penalized for being born female. At this point in time, there should be equality in pay and position in the workplace. But it's still severely lacking.

Then I see all the woman who wants to be a stay at home mom's and can't because the housing market has gone up so much more than the rate of pay, it takes two incomes to make a mortgage payment. Did the woman's movement do this? I often wonder. The more equality we want the more the "ideal" woman is pushed down our throats on every magazine cover in the free world. This is because we have bought into the ideal and buy the freaking things -- me included. Are we are own worst enemy? Young girls feel the need to use their bodies to get a young boy to like them. This is unthinkable to me, but it's happening everywhere.

In the end, I really don't know if we've done ourselves any real justice. We're still dealing with the equality issue as much as ever. There is some hope. The luxury car industry finally got the clue that the majority of luxury car buyers are the 40-something woman. A few are finally catering to this demographic, like Cadillac. I canceled all my magazine subscriptions and am sticking to books. I got tired of not measuring up and finally realized, I don't have too.

Just my thoughts on the subject...
